Oh really? And yet NONE of them can explain the spark of life as it hits the human heart.

What is the spark of life??? something that keeps your old jalopy of a mind firing on two cylinders?

If there is no existing population, something killed them. Competition for habitat doesn''''t explain it, unless the competition killed them.

Neanderthals have recently been proven ot be a separate species from **** Sapiens, as opposed to H.S. being "evolved" Neanderthals. Present theory is that H.S. was better at hunting than their more primitive cousins so the Neandertahls could survive in smaller and smaller areas until the last group died out 28,000 years ago in what is now Gibraltar.

Sounds just like this whacko bunch of athiests also, that think they have the right to tell Kentucky people how to live their lives.

I don''t understand you hatred for our system and the Constitution. For WAY over 200 years now, when citizens believe their rights are being violated or that some state or group is NOT following our beloved Constitution, they have taken that Grievance to the Courts. That''s how the founders intended it to be and TEN''s of THOUSANDS died in a Civil War so that those states would abide by our Constitution. At the very least you could show some respect for that great history.

What''s amazing is that many some people think the Bible is completely true, in spite of its many obvious contradictions: http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html#contradictions

Only if they studied it and were knowledgeable on the same subject...

Intelligence is not limited to scientists...I know some that can''''t even look up a telephone number in the yellow pages...it''''s too complicated for their pea brains to master.

True but the vast majority of American Scientist and the community as a whole has great standing in the world. The American Academy of Scientist has without a doubt, some of the greatest minds in the world in their ranks. When you look at the major accomplishments of that group over the last 5 decades it''s very impressive indeed.

As long as they don''''t interbreed, they can diverge into separate species.
Posted by ge556 at 03:19 PM : Dec 03, 2008

Then you get a proliferation of species instead of a progression. Which is fine if you wanted a proliferation.

But the specific question was, how does a PROGRESSION of species occur? That means a new species REPLACES the old one, like we replaced the Neanderthals. There are none left. Why?

Just "out competing" doesn''t answer the question. There would still be a population of them today.

If there is no existing population, something killed them. Competition for habitat doesn''t explain it, unless the competition killed them.

Where are the skeletons of these inferior species?

I told you already. I''m not your college professor.

There are answers to your questions. I know them. I''m just not going to waste my time explaining them to you, only to be either ignored or mocked for it.

I have a very good friend who lives in Kentucky... talk to him often. He says there''s a near panic among the Religious Power Brokers there. Seems they have been trying to wedge themselves into the Government anyway they can and have been kicked in the teeth over and over again by the courts. It seems the worse they loose the more ridiculous their next move becomes. This one though is a real big time blunder. It goes back to the Jerry Falwell/Pat Robertson rant about American''s who they don''t agree with being responsible for 9/11. I look for it to get much worse as we move forward though. The Republican Party is beginning to see them for what they are and history has shown them to be very ugly when they can''t control.

Second, the new group has to kill the old group. Or some environmental change has to kill the old group. Or SOMETHING has to kill the old group.

Otherwise, you get both species coexisting, and the older species continues indefinitely.

The new species out competes the old the old ceases to exist. It''''s always been the nature of things.
Posted by dinkydog at 03:08 PM : Dec 03, 2008

Actually, that''s very hard to demonstrate, either mathematically or by computer simulation.

The only way the new species can eliminate the old one is if they KILL the old species.

And how do they become a separate species if the continue crossbreeding and maintaining the ability to produce fertile offspring with members of the original group?

First, crossbreeding has to be inhibited in some way. Then wait for natural genetic variations to cause the two groups to drift apart genetically until they can no longer produce fertile offspring (like horses and donkeys - can produce offspring, but the offspring are sterile).

Second, the new group has to kill the old group. Or some environmental change has to kill the old group. Or SOMETHING has to kill the old group.

Otherwise, you get both species coexisting, and the older species continues indefinitely.

A mutation occours that allows the new variant to better survive and compete. The new species out competes the old the old ceases to exist. It''''s always been the nature of things.

Yep, it''s all around us too! That''s why Scientist should teach Science. You wouldn''t ask an English teacher to teach Math.

Any of you evolutionists out there, feel free to explain how exactly the evolution mechanism works. How does changing feeding habits and living habits changes an animals DNA?

Posted by CBSNews53 at 03:01 PM : Dec 03, 2008

-------------------

It doesn''t. You have it backwards.

Unless maybe you are thinking about the fact that species sometimes genetically adapt to changes in the environment. Then you''re not quite as wrong. Changes in the environment sometimes favor one genetic trait over another, so individuals with that trait survive and/or reproduce more. That''s why people tend to be darker closer to the equator, and lighter nearer the poles.
