"Christmas" festivals should be held on christian private property - like in a church, rectory, or other tax exempt place.

Now you''''re back to saying religion is obscene. It can be practiced only in private, like defecation or pornography.

Should Muslims have the right to make public calls to prayers in the US? Or would you prefer they keep that limited to their property, homes, or mosques?

IwasHungry68,

Your "Not if you REALLY believe in what you''''re doing". statement is puzzling. How can you base a system of beliefs on earning your pay? I agree that Moses being given tablets is highly unlikely, but the Ten Commandments is still a pretty good basis for morality.

We had up to 10% of the force engaged in some form of corrupt behavior and 2% actually had criminal convictions after joining the force.

IwasHungry68,

I have never worked for a religious organization and I am not a regular churchgoer. I was just commenting that a morality based on doing what you are paid to do is pretty empty. Part of my job was trying to find ways to teach ethics to police and with such a thin moral basis, it was pretty difficult.

Since this country WAS NOT founded on "christianity", you''''re admitting that we SHOULD NOT be celebrating your religion in public places.
Posted by IwasHungry68 at 06:02 PM : Dec 03, 2008

But if someone proved to you that it WAS founded by Christians and according to Christian principles, then would it be OK with you?

Then why do you hate Christian expression so much?

WHY do you and your ilk insist on trampling on MY constitutional rights, in favor of YOUR religion?
Posted by IwasHungry68 at 05:55 PM : Dec 03, 2008

So, just SEEING or HEARING the religious expression of another individual constitutes a VIOLATION OF YOUR RIGHTS???

Sounds like you have a problem with being tolerant of other religions. Religious intolerance was FORBIDDEN by the First Amendment, not REQUIRED by it as most moderns believe.

For proof you only need to ask, "Why does the first commandment directly contradict the first amendment?"
Posted by IwasHungry68 at 05:48 PM : Dec 03, 2008

You avoided my question. If you lived in a country with a religion that was practiced by the majority of the population, and that religion celebrted Ramadan - would you be offended if the government sponsored a Ramadan festival?

Not to me. Sounds like the Christians are pushing thier views on everyone, weather or not they agree.
Posted by MrNrgmizer at 05:46 PM : Dec 03, 2008

Sounds more like it shouldn''t have been called a "Christmas" festival if you couln''t use the word "Christmas" at the festival.

But that''s too much common sense for you...

Because I don''''t won''''t your religious symbols and idols forced on me in a public place that my taxes help support?

Wow, now you even JUSTIFY being judgemental and demanding.

This is almost like a RELIGION with you. LOL!

I worked for four years in the ethics department of a major police force. Their political correctness would not allow the mention of religion or religious values.

In the end, their basis for police ethics was that members should "do the job they are paid to do". It always seemed pretty empty to me.

am all for putting up some religious decorations on public property, as long as you represent EVERY religion in the world.

If only one, then GO FISH.

Posted by slownewsdaze at 05:32 PM : Dec 03, 2008

Sounds like EVEN MORE dictating how I should live.

You athiests are so JUDGEMENTAL and DEMANDING.

I''''m curious - what would your reaction be to a "ramadan festival"?
Posted by IwasHungry68 at 05:34 PM : Dec 03, 2008

If I had CHOSEN to live in a country where Ramadan was a celebration of the predominant religion, WOULD I BE OFFENDED BY RAMDAN????

SHOULD I be offended by celbrations of the predominant religion of the country where I CHOSE to live? Didn''t I know what the predominant religion was when I went there?

IF I expressed offense and outrage that the government was sponsoring a celebration of the predominant religion, what would happen to me?

what''''s your take on the "Little People of Flores? I find that tribe extremely interesting, considering nothing like it seems to have existed before or since.

What about othem? I lost interest during the discussion of "how did tiny humans arrive on an island."

They mentioned natural rafts and primitive rafts. Well, if someone is going to arrive at an island on a primitive raft, the smaller they are the better.

But how did they bring enough of a population to reproduce without severe inbreeding?

I give up. Is there something especially remarkable about them that I missed? All I see is they''re small, they lived on an island with elephants, pigs, and monkeys, and they seemed to be descended from **** erectus.

Is this supposed to be telling us something? Whatever it is, I''m missing it.

That''''s because atheists DO NOT dictate to christians how they should live their lives, like christians do to EVERYONE.
Posted by IwasHungry68 at 05:07 PM : Dec 03, 2008

Yes they do. They''re doing it RIGHT NOW.

They''ve been telling us to hush up, hide your religion. Don''t pray in school, or not so anyone can tell you''re doing it (what, is praying the same a passing gas???). Don''t display the Ten Commandments on public property. Don''t display Christmas ornaments on public property.

One city put on a Christmas festival, but the athiests sued to forbid the word "Christmas" from appearing anywhere in the Christmas festival.

Sounds like dictating to me.

"It is a God given right to either believe in God or not."

"If atheist, satanist, agnostics or anyone else thinks that people who believe in God are going away, they can think again."

Your imaginary "god" did/does not confer that "right" -- it''s always been a totally "human" choice.

And I DO think that "believers" are slowly but surely "going away"; I can actually see it happening all around me all the time.

It''s a slow process, of course. Progress and change occur in small increments over time. But the people of today are definitely NOT the totally devout believers of times past, and they are obviously becoming even less so as time goes on. Eventually religion will simply become totally irrelevant, I think; just ancient history.

In the distant past religion was often the very centerpiece of a culture - it dominated everything. Over time it became just one "part" of the culture. Now it''s become only a very small part of the culture as a whole, and someday it will only be an historical footnote.

Religious faith is nothing more than a self-inflicted delusion.

I would love to know if anyone has ever spontaneously used the word "God" as opposed to being TAUGHT the word (and whatever one meaning of it they are taught at the same time).

Yes, it''s definitely taught. Although, I''m sure as we evolved we did begin to question life & how it came to exist.
