I just googled Dave Pelzer, and he has a website, and has written 6 books. Like I said, I couldn''t read any more after the first. I met Dave in person during foster parent appreciation month, and he told his story. He is actually really funny. Try davepelzer.com - Reply to this comment

Yes I know, and can relate to that statement...
Thanks for the insight... - Reply to this comment
- Is there another book after A Child Called It? My daughter was hoping there would be a more uplifting chapter to his life that would be in book form for her to read.

- Sorry, Slim1h2o.
Dave Pelzer was at one time the 2nd worst child abuse case in the state of California. The 1st worst child abuse case died shortly after being rescued from it''s home. He was starved, burned, poisoned, stabbed- all by his mom. After he was in foster care, he almost went back to her, because someone said something bad about her. The love of a child for his mother is very strong. - Reply to this comment

You never know what you have in you, until you are in the situation. But, there are plenty of sad stories to stack up against Dave Pelzer''s. There are 3 other stories, I believe that Dave wrote. I couldn''t read them after the first one, but they tell about him learning to talk, and engineering the mid-air jet fueling during Desert Storm. - Reply to this comment
- loves8childr I''''m so glad that he''''s turned his life around and made it better for himself. I don''''t think I could have done it if I had been in his place.

You are right about that book. I hated everyone during the time I read it, and had a hard time controlling my anger, because of what Dave Pelzer endured. But, I have actually met the man, and he is a walking miracle. I could actually say that someone else went through something worse than I did, and he not only survived, but he has done more with his life than most "normal" people. - Reply to this comment
- My daughter read A Child Called It when she was 15 and she couldn''t read it at night before bed because it made her cry every time she read just a few pages. It was for an assignment at school or I doubt she would have been able to finish it. That''s one sad book.
I am very thankful this kids is now in much better hands!! - Reply to this comment
- clip24,
I was going to sign off, but I caught your last comment.I love my foster parents, but they needed a lot of training in order to understand me. A great resource for foster parents is a program called Casey Family Programs. They no longer directly care for foster kids, but they help other organizations. They are like the cadillac compared to a suzuki swift, believe me. I was in state foster care before Casey. - Reply to this comment

How many of those 103 comments do you suppose were my duplicates?

I hear you. My husband and I have been thinking lately of taking in a foster child (now that our children are grown) because we know we can provide a safe and loving environment for some of these neglected older children. - Reply to this comment
- clip24, some of the true stories of foster children are so horrifying, that you don''t want to know what happened. Often it''s the family that betrays them. The family is the first place for a person to learn of love, or the lack there of. But, the great thing is that the human spirit can overcome.
