S.C. School Says Culture Rather Than Biblical Teachings Led To Institutional Racist Policies
- Re: it''''s just fate and gonna happen no matter what you do.
"fate" is your term, not the Bible''s and is a wrong systematic conclusion. The bible makes it very clear that if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ you will be saved - Acts 16:31. It also teaches that you have the obligation to "flee from the wrath to come." So the old "whatever will be will be" argument is not biblical and not to be followed. Your future, either in heaven or hell, does depend on what you do, namely what you do with Jesus Christ. Will you receive him by faith as your savior from your sins or will you reject him? To as many as received him, to them gave he the power to be called the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name - John 1:12. I love the illustration that pictures it so: On the front of heaven''s gate it says "whosoever will, let him come." Someone comes by faith in Christ, turns around and sees "chosen from the foundation of the world." - Reply to this comment
- Now, if Bob Jones University would just apologize for all that fundamentalism, things would be fine.

Jesus never married, had long hair like a girl, and an unnaturally close relationship with his mother.
He surrounded himself with male companions who were often kissed directly on the lips.
He had an obsession with the feet of both s-e-xes, never missing an opportunity to wash them.
When he was arrested, he was followed by a scantily-clad youth.
AmerOSeas, what would you call Jesus if he was alive today?
Messiah?
I don`t think so. "

Your post with questions are the same ones I''ve asked over the years of people including wives and the only answer I get is that you must have faith(that''s the new spin word for getting religion). Supposedly God made everyone, knows everything, past-present-future and controls everything, yet he lets us screw up and go to hell. I''m also told that everything is already written in the book of judgement, if that''s the case it''s just fate and gonna happen no matter what you do. - Reply to this comment

I am sorry that happened at your church but it certainly cannot be applied to all "fundamental" churches. My experience at my fundamental church was the opposite. My best friend growing up was a different color and neither one of us nor our parents cared. I grew up in Sunday School singing the following song: Jesus loves the little children; all the children of the world; red and yellow black and white; they are precious in his sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world! - Reply to this comment

You are getting into some pretty deep theology. but be careful. The term "free will" is a term of systematic theology. In other words it is a conclusion drawn from the biblical data. Another systematic conclusion is that of the sovereignty of God. These two doctrines are found in scripture and so we must accept them, though we cannot reconcile them in our finite minds. They are no problem to an infinite God who revealed enough of himself so that we could receive forgiveness of sins and enjoy him forever. Hope that helps. - Reply to this comment
- Is this is what''''s going to be happening all over the country? People and places having to continuously apologize for their pasts? Even if it''''s been decades or centuries since something happened? I am sick and tired of these so-called apologizes....what good does it do? Does it make people feel all warm and cozy inside? Get over it people, yeah during America''''s growing up stages, mistakes were made. JUST DEAL WITH IT and move forward instead of dwelling on the past.

You can deal with a problem until you accept that there was a problem. This college banned interacal dating until the year 2000! Get over it? - Reply to this comment
- I knew a woman who attended BJU and it was funny because she would make sure to change into a long skirt if she was in a situation where she would see other BJU people. Pants on a woman were a big no-no.

- The fundamentalist church I grew up in used Ham, the son of Noah, who was cursed as their biblical dogma on why dark-skinned people were inferior.
I guess even the dogmatics change with the time, however. - Reply to this comment
- My literary society had an African-American chaplain (all offices in societies had to be approved by the university)and race relations were excellent.

Race relations always seem excellent to the ones who are not forbidden because of the color of their skin - Reply to this comment
- Fact: BJU does not receive any federal funding, and in fact is taxed by the feds.

FACT: BJU students receive federal backed loans and grants. BJU receives federal grants. BJU is a non-for-profit institution, so where is it taxed?
Christianity and other religions always have the problem with using biblical dogma to speak to cultural issues. The very nature of dogma, unchanging absolute truth, when applied to changing cultural condition sets up an interesting see-saw. - Reply to this comment
- SOME SO-CALLED "HARD-CORE CHRISTIANS" ..ee..hm HYPOCRITES WILL STILL BE SWIMMING IN THE SEA OF RACISM AT THE COMMING OF CHRIST !! MANY WILL MISS THE RAPTURE AND MANY ALREADY DEAD WILL END UP IN HELL FOR RACISM ALONE !! THE STRONGEST GOD4S DESIRE OF MANKIND IS ""LOVE"" THE MOST POISNOUS ATTACK ON GOD4S "LOVE" ARE RACISM AND TERRORISM ! IT IS NOT IN VAIN THAT GOD MADE IT CLEAR IN THE BIBLE THAT THE ROAD TO HEAVEN IS NARROW AND ONLY THE FEWER COULD MAKE IT THAT ROAD TO HEAVEN !! THE REST WILL DIE IN THEIR LACK OF "LOVE" FOR OTHERS(RACISM) OR TERRORISM AND END UP IN HELL! GOD SAID "WHAT EVER YOU DO UNTO THY BRETHREN, YOU ALSO DO UNTO ME !! HE WHO HAS EAR SHOULD HEAR, AMEN !!

According to you, the only path to salvation and everlasting life is through Jesus.
So, I`ll carry out an imaginary conversation with you.
J: Do you believe God created everybody?
A: Yes.
J: Do you believe God knows everything?
A: Yes.
J: Do you believe that God can see into the future?
A: Yes.
J: Do you believe God loves everyone?
A: Yes.
J: So, this all-loving, all-knowing God who can see into the future created two-thirds of the world`s population knowing ahead of time that they`re going to burn in h-ell for all eternity.
A: Yes, but God gave us free will, so it`s our choice as to whether we accept Jesus as our savior or not.
J: But if we have free will, God doesn`t know what we`re going to do! - Reply to this comment

God loves you and so do I. And I believe you most likely know the gospel but are fighting against it which is why you posted your comments. Please don''t do that. Life is too short. Eternity is too long. Jesus Christ came and paid for all our sins that believing on him we can have everlasting life. - Reply to this comment

- The ban on inter-racial dating was not discriminatory against any one race because all had to abide by it. Again, race relations were and still are excellent at BJU. Perfection will no one find on the earth. But women of all races walk the campus by day and night in peace. I honesty can say I never heard of one rape while I was a student, I never saw anyone using illegal drugs because they knew they would be kicked out. BJU was and is a wonderful place!

- One thing BJU will never apologize for is the fact that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. We are all one blood. The Bible says: As by one man sin entered into the world. And death by sin. So death passed upon all men for that all have sinned... For as by one man''s disobedience (Adam) many were made sinners, so also by one Man''s obedience (Jesus Christ who never sinned and was born of a virgin so the sin of Adam did not pass to him) many will be made righteous.
Jesus said: He that believes on me has everlasting life, will not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. - Jn 5:24
Those who believe on Jesus in his finished work on the cross in his death, burial, and resurrection, receive everlasting life. It does not matter who they are. The Bible says that God is no respector of persons. He sees us all the same, in need of the same savior - his Son Jesus Christ. Those who want a savior from their sins, must look to Jesus Christ who alone can save. - Reply to this comment
- It took until 1971 before they would admit any minorites. It took until 2000 before they woudl allow interracial dating. It took until 2008 to admit their racist policies were wrong.
I would not allow a child of mine to attend a school that took this amount o time to right the wrongs of their past.
And it is dishonest to say the school knows of ''no known antagonism toward minorities or expressions of racism on a personal level have ever been tolerated on our campus''- please! If you have policies that explicitly discriminate you better believe someone at that school used that as an excuse to do untold things.
The rules themselves were antagonist toward minorities and expressed racism! - Reply to this comment
