Taped Interrogation Of Child Accused Of Killing Dad "Absurd," Says CBS News Legal Analyst
- It is preposterous to charge an 8 year old with murder as if he were an adult. Why does this child not have a legal guardian protecting his rights? What are the victims'' families hoping to get out of this? Would they like to see the child locked up for years? In summary, there are 2 overiding concerns: 1) Make sure the boy gets adequate representation to protect his rights and 2) Use common sense and charity when dealing with an 8 year old child no matter what he may have done. You cannot punish a child as if he were an adult. It would be much better to provide him with the kind of long term counseling to help him deal with what he has done - THAT IS IF IN FACT HE REALLY DID IT OR JUST SAID SO TO MAKE THE COPS HAPPY.

This poor child killed two men! - Reply to this comment
- What about the two men he killed? I have heard rumors, not facts, of abuse. The dead men are also presumed innocent until proven otherwise. In this case adult trial may be too much and juvenile too little!

- This poor child was led in a fantasy by the police, children are susceptible to that. IF he indeed fired the gun, was there GSR on his little hands? It persists for days. If he is "tried," it is too late to ensure a fair trial!

- One article mentioned that the kid said something like "I''m going to juvie." Do most 8-yr old kids even know that term? Did he knew the slang term because he has been in some sort of trouble before (and has either been in detention or been threatened with it after a behavior problem). That might lead the idiot police to just assume he must have been the culprit.
Maybe he walked in and found the two wounded men and then, in the faulty judgment of a child''s mind, thought he was doing a merciful by shooting each one to stop their suffering. That might explain some of the questions (white car speeding away, how could a child overtake two adults, etc.)... - Reply to this comment
- The small Child should submit to a polygraph. He could be asked if the two Adults gave him liquor and illicit pornography featuring naked children. Then, if the two Men forcibly, sexually raped him in the woods. The shooting could be justified as self-defense-----------------
Where oh WHERE do you people COME FROM?!!
Does an 8 year old even know the absolute difference between the truth and a lie? Especially in this type of case?
Jeeeeezzz. - Reply to this comment
- Clearly this boy is evil, he should be skinned alive and forced to eat his own flesh before being crushed to death by heavy rocks....doesn''''t anyone read their bible any more?!?
WWJD ---------------------
I sincerely hope this is sarcasm -- because if not, you have a serious screw loose. And, didn''t the bible say something to the effect that you won''t get to heaven unless you are child like in your belief?
Well?? - Reply to this comment
- How very sad. This child perhaps killed two people and is now in the hands of a system that has a hard time dealing with adults, much less the mind of an 8 year old.
There is no good side, no fair outcome to any of this. The victims'' families are bitter and vengeful, the prosecuter tasting blood in what seems like taking candy from a baby, and then there''s those who love the child regardless and will only defend him regardless.
No good will come of this. The boy is now in the middle of the arena and the bloody spectacle is about to begin. - Reply to this comment

You are making those assumptions based on a few news reports you have read and a portion of the confession tape you saw. The police and the DA pressed charges against the boy. I wonder what motivation could they have to frame this kid for that crime and how could they bring two murder charges without evidence? They were the ones who conducted the investigation. They have not revealed a motive and evidence yet. In the phase of discovery his lawyer will get all the evidence they have but we might not since there''s a gag order. We might get it later through the media either because it is released or because some news organization uses the Freedom of Information Act to get it. - Reply to this comment
- This child didn''t kill these men...If you listen to the "so called confession" his first story of coming home and finding his dad was the truth. The way you can tell is how he told the story there were no "ums or i thinks" in the truth. These officers are sick to try and put this on a 8yr old. Where is the evidence? and where is the Priest/Pastor who said these men came to him and asked should they allow the boy to have a gun? Maybe he knows more than he is letting on? Um how about the step mom and even the mother? There are more possible suspects than this boy.

- I want to know what happened to the white car with men in it that the boy at first said he saw speeding away from the house when he got home.

- Where do you get the idea that this child was molested? What evidence is there to suggest it? Sounds like you`ve got some personal baggage you need to unload. I`d suggest therapy.

They have probably been watching Nancy Grace... and, yes, therapy would benefit, but then Greta Van Susteren would benefit from it too. - Reply to this comment
- Ok - The case is FUBAR. The reason? The DA handling the case just lost an ugly reelection campaign. His release of the interview footage has made it impossible for his successor to win this case. The way the police handled the case is being portrayed in the media (Don''t believe the hype, it''s a sequel) as inept and ineffective. If you believe everything you read in the paper, you deserve what you get.

- The DA already knew the confession would not be admissible evidence. That''s why it was leaked to media. Dirty pool if you ask me.

- There are no winners in this one. Too many questions, and not enough answers. I can not comprehend.
