toolmangler, I wrote ''If you didn''t intend this a personally attack on me, you need to learn to write in the third person.'' You responded that I needed a thicker skin--to which I responded that you needed to learn to write in the third person if YOU didn''''t intend your earlier message as a personal attack on me. GOT IT!

I GOT IT But you don''t. You first replied to whatithink10. I said "you needed a thicker skin", then you looped the two together. She wasn''t attacking you, just vigorously defending her viewpoint... - Reply to this comment

Geez... i''m speaking hypothetically, never aimed that at anyone in particular, here or otherwise.
One can hate someone for their race, without feeling any particular "pride" in one''s own race.
okay? if you read my post(s) completely, you''d see i''m arguing entirely against the lunkheads this article is about. - Reply to this comment

I cannot "HATE" someone because of their race whether I love my own or not. If you can, then you need the help not me. You have to separate functions. - Reply to this comment

Clarify if i don''t seem to answer your question.
Just because you dont like a characteristic like that, doesn''t mean much of anything. If you think it defines what makes a race "inferior", well, it''s just stupid. And racist.
Bear in mind your hypothetical doesn''t relate to my point. You can hate someone for their race, without feeling any particular "pride" in your own. - Reply to this comment

I say this without malice, you need a thicker skin if you post on here. - Reply to this comment

I resent this personal response to my earlier message. I don''t feel that I am better than any other person due to his/her race or mine.

- Do you think it''s possible to consider another''s race inferior, without feeling pride in yours? I think it happens plenty often.
Posted by actornaught at 03:32 PM : Nov 16, 2008
Yes, it is possible. Is it also possible to favor your race because of some characteristic that you don''t care for in another. (kinky hair?) but not not hate the other race???? - Reply to this comment

That is the essence of my belief. It was the essence of my belief when I marched in Civil Rights protests back inthe ''60s and ant-Vietnam War protests in the ''70s. - Reply to this comment

No, that is an erroneous "slippery slope" argument. Do you think it''s possible to consider another''s race inferior, without feeling pride in yours? I think it happens plenty often. - Reply to this comment
- And yes, they denied education and other things to the blacks who were considered inferior.

- whatithink10, Who are you arguing with? I would have taught blacks to read and attempted to get any that I could out of slavery. But that doesn''t change the fact that many whites thought that they were better than the blacks back then. And yes, they denied education and other things to the blacks who were considered inferior. No one is defending slavery--so what''s your point?

- You couldn''''t have slavery without racism. In order to do horrible things to another human being, you have to turn them into something unhuman...the same as what many soldiers do during a time of war against their opponent.

- stlouisman3,
I say the only race that matters is the human race. This superficial stuff is meaningless in the long run. We are all still evolving. We look the way we do because of the environments in which we lived for a long period of time. This was a gift that some people have decided to turn into a curse. - Reply to this comment
- whatithink10, Pride in one''s race is what has and continues to cause so many of our racial problems from all sides! You may say that pride in one''s race is human; I think pride in being human regardless of race is human

Nobody is afraid to give a book to a dog, because they know the dog will never be able to read.
People could be killed at one time for giving a book to a black person. That''s only because deep inside those who didn''t want it knew there was no difference.
