Says Evidence Teen Killed Herself Because Of Woman's Online Hoax May Prejudice Jury
- First of all. This should have never happened. The mother should keep her nose in her own affairs and let her daughter handle her own problems. Next, If you won''t say something face to face then don''t say it at all, any way, shape or form. This woman is now going to have a record because of her own ignorance. She may even end up doing time. Let this be a lesson to all. DON''T HIDE BEHIND THE INTERNET TO DO YOUR DIRTY WORK.

- I don''t understand the charges of "creating a fictitious profile". Who in this day, with all that is out there, uses their real name? I do not believe she should have been charged with those charges.

- hey, this news may seem crazy, but they actually make sense.
If the woman is convicted, then the penalty will take into account for the suicide and be really hard.
If she is not (which is what the trial is about) that means she did nothing illegal by harasing this girl
if I call any of you reading this an I-diot, that might or not be a crime, independently of whether you kill yourself or not because I insulted you - Reply to this comment

No.. the world has gone virtual. With so much of of our modern life being carried out on-line how can you say that protecting people from virtual attacks is not valid? It''s the same as receiving threatening letters in the mail, or malicious phone calls. - Reply to this comment
- This lady is supposed to be a responsible adult. In a time where schools are trying to control bullying in our schools, so that incidents like Columbine don''t happen. People on this blog are justifying this womans behavior and blaming the girl. If you as an adult go and harass a kid in your neighborhood, you''ll either end up in jail or getting your a-- kicked. I think this lady should be sent to jail and her daughter should be sent to juvy. They will both be taught a lesson by the inmates and will think twice before they ever harass a child again. This woman and her daughter are mentally ill, you can tell by the way they show no remorse. They deserve everything they will be taught in prison. Let''s see how tough these witches are when there faced with there own kind. I feel sorry for the girl who killed herself and her family. I''m sorry that the help she was trying to get couldn''t overcome the ignorance of some in our society. My condolences and prayers go out to the family.

- Lori Drew is an evil woman who was a %u201Cfriend%u201D of the victims family and new that the girl was being treated for depression. She knew there was a medical problem this girl was receiving treatment for and she set up this fake account simply to talk to Megan to get her to say her feelings for Lori%u2019s own daughter, there were no other intended targets. It was mean and premeditated. This woman decided to commit fraud to get involved in a teenager%u2019s dispute with a friend. She was immature and cruel. It became criminal when it was revealed that this was not random, but an attack by someone that was close to the family and knew that this girl had a fragile sense of self, she should have stayed out of it. I guess Lori Drew%u2019s next step would be to bake her diabetic friends a bunch of pies and then lie and say they were sugar free then act shocked and play the victim when the diabetics slip into a coma.

- While the suicide may not relevant to the charges of conspiracy and accessing computers without authorization, I have to wonder if those are the right charges. Is there really no law against cyber-bullying, cyberstalking, or harassment, this many years after the first cases were reported? While I don''t think you can make someone commit suicide, I don''t understand why cyberharassment would be acceptable as long as the person is using an authorized computer or account... It''s also true, as a previous poster mentioned, that if there were no suicide there would be no case. If they''re going to prosecute everyone who sets up a fake account on MySpace of accessing computers without authorization, they could be in court for the rest of the century!

- Why is it every time people that do not agree with a Judges ruling, they are called activist, now elitist?
A Judge is supposed to follow the law. If the Judge fails to do so, there is an appeals court system for such just cause. We cannot remove every Judge who''s ruling might "upset" some people. If we did we would only have Judges who think like the "Right Wing". Now how scary is that? - Reply to this comment
- You cant drive someone to suicide! this girl had the option of simply SHUTTING THE COMPUTER OFF!!
In fact her mom TOLD her to get off the computer and she didnt, so MOM was at fault, MOM let a 13 y/o get on a computer alone talking to some total stranger "boy" who very easily could have been a PEDOPHILE!
Every part of this case points to MOM as the one at fault- from failure to control HER computer, HER kid''s on-line access, and who her kid communicates with.
MOM easily could have "unplugged" the computer but failed to do so.
This whole case is so laughably stupid it''s not funny any more, Drew is not responsible for what some UNSUPERVISED mentally weak misfit does as a result of some stupid myspace message text on a dam computer, this was not a physical confrontation in the school-yard it was a dam computer MOM failed to secure and restrict- if only to prevent pedophiles from luring her kid out to some rendevous as happens. - Reply to this comment
- HMMM I THOUGHT IT WAS COMMON SENCE THAT NO MATTER WHAT ONE PERSON SAYS TO ANOTHER, THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS. NOBODY CAN MAKE A PERSON FEEL A CERTAIN WAY....EACH OF OUR RESPONCES TO THE SAME THING WILL BE DIFFERENT BASED ON OUR LIFE EXPERIENCES.
GRANTED THIS IS A TRADEGY AND THE CRAZY LADY HERE IS MESSED UP IN THE HEAD. SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST NEONE? - Reply to this comment
- Another eletist moronic judge. If the girl had not killed herself there would be no case. Driving someone to suicide is murder.
Our judges do not think they live in the same world as the rest of us. Like the judge who asked the rape victim how bad could it have really been. We need a new system. Some type of watchdog policy. - Reply to this comment
