Police Say Ariz. Boy Confessed To Shooting Deaths Of Father And His Co-Worker
- What kind of society do we live in? A sick one very clearly.

- Why the 8 year-old would think of hurting his father?? Something does not add up . . the neighbors are saying that the Romero family was wonderful. If the boy had problems, it would have been noticed by his teachers or his community before now.

You''re right. My neighbors, they all thought my father was the greatest. he bought all the kids ice cream in the building, but rarely put food on our table. He was well liked by all the ladies, whereas my mom was always silently crying with her head in her arms at the table. What he did to me, I won''t even say...but my Mom is finally happy because she put him in anursing home and now she is like a brand new woman. If she had not been there during that period of my life, i know I would have done something just like this boy did. - Reply to this comment
- I have an eight year old grandson who just loves to play with toy guns. I have taught him never to point it at a living thing. Put up targets and shoot at them. I will venture a guess that this child has no idea of what he has done. He is probably wondering, right now, when is daddy coming to get me. An eight year old can not, in any way, understand that his daddy is gone for ever. This is a tragic event and should have never been put out to the public. How dare they do that? My prayers are with this child!!!!

- It remains to be seen if the kids was abused or not. If he was, then they need to not pursue murder charges. Let the molesters fear for their safety, not their victims.

- trueleigh1;
I see you and I were thinking along the same lines. Our posts are so similar. It''s very, very heartbreaking to think what could have made this little child do this. And why, oh why on earth are they "trying him" in court at all, let alone as an adult? He needs help to get him through whatever it is that brought him to this point. - Reply to this comment
- Poor kid...I think that he had probably hoped beyond hope that his Mom would sense how much he needed her during her visit, and when she left without him, he snapped. He probably saw her going back without him as his last hope of escape from what was obviously a tortuous home life with his father and his father''s "friend". Nice little 8 year old kids who never get into trouble do not just suddenly kill people. criminy...my 8 year old is just now starting to question the existanece of Santa Claus and she still leaves her teeth under the pillow for the tooth fairy...My thirteen year old fella still wants hugs and good night kisses right along with his sister. What was missing from this little guys life?

- This is so sad. An 8 year old''s mind is so immature, and generally speaking children that young still believe in fantasy, like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. It has been proven with scientific studies of that areas of the brain dealing with reasoning are not fully developed until age 25. That child is not an adult and should not be charged as one.

- Investigatin the possibility of abuse is one thing. Putting forth theories of abuse before an investigation is completed is another. It is as if some people are making excuses for what this child did. An eight year old murdering people is not normal behavior. This does not mean any abuse took place. Why not consider having divorced parents as a reason for his actions? For some children, that can be traumatic. It is fine to protect children. However, some things just can not be accepted and treated lightly, no matter how young an offender is.

I agree, well said. It''s an inhumane society that would consider trying an 8-yr old child as an adult. - Reply to this comment
- You can''t accuse an 8 year old of murder, whatever your logical reasoning. For our society to try an 8 year old as an adult just goes to prove how low this nation will stoop. There can be absolutly NO societal benefit from trying any 8 year old accused of a crime, as an adult. NONE. It''s nothing more than pandering to "social conservatives" who will stop at nothing to destroy this society. We would be stoning adulterous women in football stadiums in front of crowds of thousands if they had their way. We have a responsability to recognize the social conservatives in our community and stand and fight against them. The first step that this community could take is to stand against the prosecutor and jude and demand that this 8 year old receive a psychiatric evaluation and then the proper attention that he deserves. Condeming him to prison, even a juvenile prison, would be as good as condemning him to death. That''s what social conservatives want. They would throw this child away and not lose a wink of sleep over it. Recognize these posters for who they are. There is no such thing as a reasonable social conservative and no such thing as a socially conservative Democrat. It''s time to put these rotten, hate filled, so-called "christian," socially conservative republicans in their place. We''ve made a good start but still have a long way to go.
Give this child what he NEEDS and not what vile hatists think he "deserves under the law." - Reply to this comment
- After that, the kid had full knowledge of his actions and the consequences of a bullet impacting a body. From where I''''m sitting, this was no accident by an innocent child; it was murder leaving only the motive in question.

I''ve shot .22''s at a 25 yd range and they barely kick up sand behind the target. Would the kid really notice anything other than daddy fell down, just like the targets? - Reply to this comment
- Since the police interrogated and perhaps extorted the confession from the child, without a parent, guardian or attorney present, the confession shouldn''t be admissible.
It''s really disgusting that the press is already running with the story, helping to influence any future jury pool. - Reply to this comment

- If guns really kill people, can I blame all my spelling errors on my pencil or key board? I believe in the right to bear arms (and the right to arm bears). As far as guns and children, I bleieve that children should be children. For my son, 13 years of age was about right for muzzle control and maturity enough to know the dnagers of firearms. If a child is unable to handle a gun - never pointed at anybody - when it''s empty, the child cannot handle it when it is loaded. Any adult who places a gun in the hands of a child or who condones an earlier age is irresponsible at best. That''s the way I see it.

- We could see if Madonna would adopt him. That will bring him back into reality & get him to thinking like a normal person.

- For those who would say teh kid didn''t know what he was doing or is incapable of comprehending murder, remember, there were at least two shots fired. The mystery and wonder of what was done would have been answered after the first shot. After that, the kid had full knowledge of his actions and the consequences of a bullet impacting a body. From where I''m sitting, this was no accident by an innocent child; it was murder leaving only the motive in question.

- I worked with troubled kids for ten years. Once we got this kid who, when he was 9, lit his 2 yer old sister''s bed on fire, killing her. He was tried as a juvenile, and got to spend the rest of his childhood (until he was 18) in detention centers, group homes like I worked at, and if he behaved well enough, foster homes.
I met him when he was 12, and let me tell you I thought he could kill anyone. Some people are just born without the capacity to respect life. Abused or not, I suspect this kid was just like this. Gun control could have saved the Father and the other man''s lives. - Reply to this comment

- Hey hicks, gun control. European countries seem to get by just fine without having handguns. Same with Canada.

- Professor209...."They are called gun owners but I don''''t know if the "anyone with ANY brains" part apply to them!~ I am thinking that you include your local law enforcement, correction officers, national guardsman, reservists and the military in general in your blanketed statement. Unbeknownst to you, there are many responsible gun owners in the US. I grew up in a rural area and it is not uncommon for young boys, around the age of 8-10 to have firearm training. Gun owners are not "brainless" "non-thinking" people. Frankly, I find responsible gun ownership to be the highest form of patriotism. I certainly have seen my share of people who show a lack of respect and responsibility toward firearms. Electricity flows thru millions of homes daily, but we do not lock it up, put a safety on the plug, require that the outlet be in an unaccessable place, make you wait 30 days to get it, run a background check on you to see if you are "qualified", and then make you take classes so that you can use it. Yet, electricity kills thousands a year. I am not suggesting removing some of those safeguards, nor endorsing violence, only that "gun owners" are alot smarter than you give them credit for. I am thinking that you have watched alot of negative TV. Most owners I know, realize that once the trigger is pulled, the bullet is not recallable. Responsibility, liability and safety are usually the highest thoughts on an owners mind.
