Comments on: "Yes We Did": Black Americans Rejoice
Barack Obama's Landmark Presidential Win Inspires Optimism Across Generational Lines
- What is all the fuss about electing a "black" president. As I recall, Barack Obama is 50% white, so he could just as well be called ''"white". Why all the fuss about color at all? I identified Barack Obama nearly a year ago as the person most likely to become our next president, based upon his ideas on where this country should be headed and what was needed to get us there. I have talked him up to all my friends ever since that time, especially to those who were concerned about voting for a "black" man. Incidentally, I am a caucasian male, who has never voted for a Democratic candidate for President. I am proud to be able to say I did this time, and I personally believe Barack Obama may well become one of our greatest Presidents ever, and am extremely proud to be able to say that I live in a country where we have finally showed that race does not matter.

- If McCain had won, the media would be asking women all over the country how they feel about Sarah Palin making history.
That wouldn''t mean that Sarah Palin is only vice president for women but they would focus on women''s reactions because of the obvious connection.
Let''s keep things in focus and stop looking at this through race colored glasses.
This is a historic event and the entire world is rejoicing with us. Obama is not president of Black america, he is president of all of america who happens to be Black. - Reply to this comment
- I''m a white woman from the midwest and I just want to say that this spirit of celebration transcends race. This campaign transcended race and this country is about to transcend race! Racism may not be dead yet but at least we can declare it terminally ill and I for one am ready to pull the plug on it''s life support system, i.e. all haters!
Thank goodness the majority of voters in this country have choosen to move forward instead of backwards. I have never felt so proud to be an American as I have the last couple of days. The whole world is proud of us for the decision we have made and, sorry isolationists, but we don''t live in a vacuum, our actions do affect the rest of the planet so yes, they do have a right to say something.
So to those who want to spin "Yes we did!" into some sort of slam against white voters, I am here to testify that I am fortunate enough to have friends of many different colors and creeds and we have all been calling each other the last couple of days joyously shouting, "Yes we did!"
Now the real work begins. - Reply to this comment
- Now that we have a "black" President, does this mean we whites can be a MINORITY now?
I mean, if there can be a black President, then blacks aren''t being held back too much anymore. And whites helped elect him. And most whites know, we ARE being subject to systematic discrimination for being white.
So we DESERVE IT. Whites should be a minority and get FULL minority protections and benefits.
Or, will the Affirmative Action program end now? - Reply to this comment
- This just proves that Black people are raciest also.
Did any of you listen to the Howard Stern interviews in Harlem when they used McCain''''s policies as Obama''''s. It was so funny. They even asked them how they felt about Palin as his running mate.
They strickly voted race. No question about it.

That would be funny if it wasn''t so sickening.
I''m glad to see blacks are happy with the outcome of the election. BUT GUESS WHAT. Not just blacks supported Obama.
Obama didn''t win because he promised to address black issues. Obama won because he promised to address the issues of ALL PEOPLE.
Even though blacks would like to claim Obama as their own, I''m sorry to tell them Obama is a President for ALL PEOPLE, not just blacks. - Reply to this comment

- People also have to realize that the media made that stament grouping all black people together I did not vote because of color. I know of a lot of black people who did not vote for Obama. The media is making a big deal because he is black did the media talk to the white vters about how they felt about Obama beingd the new Pres. no they only should black voters and that is wrong is thatblack peoples fault no it is the medias fault.

- Cas2dy I have to say something to you and the rest of the people who make this a black white thing. If ther media did not show this artical would we be having all the post that I see about black this black that. We for get that there are only 12% of black people in the nation so most of the people who voeted for Obama were white.
