Extended Unemployment Benefits, Food Stamps, Tax Rebates Possible As Democrats Prepare Post-Election Economic Plan
- Why not have government ask companies to give ''cost of living'' raises to America''s working class instead?
Having said that, we''ve given to large corporations and our economy works best when its working class has money to spend, so any short term boost isn''t going to hurt. I''ll even be investing in it; how''s that for a leap of faith?
But I wish long term issues would be addressed. - Reply to this comment
- Its sad to be poor (under 20,000 a year but those who are learned to not get their hopes up. Hard to feel sorry for americans who are not going to be able to have their nails, and spa treatments, men can''''t invest in stocks, buy sports cars. when they have a bad day they can''''t handle it. Maybe they should see how the other half has lived forever, learn to be humble, more compassionate of each other.

You are right. Some are poor because they are lazy, some because of poor health some because of things beyond their control. I don''t know the answer, but I don''t think it can be fixed by printing more money. - Reply to this comment
- The End of Dollar Hegemony
A hundred years ago it was called "dollar diplomacy." After World War II, and especially after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989, that policy evolved into "dollar hegemony." But after all these many years of great success, our dollar dominance is coming to an end.

Only Nixon could go to China... Then replace the word "Nixon" with any manufacturing corporation name, and voila...

- The problem with illegal aliens is going to get much worse when americans start leaving here to find work in other countries. There will not be any left jobs here.
Look out Canada and Mexico, here we come. - Reply to this comment
- "The candidate has said previously he favors $25 billion to help states meet their own needs, another $25 billion for roads, bridges and other infrastructure, and $65 billion for tax rebates paid for by a windfall profits tax on oil."
----
Once again, not able to think past today, a politician promising to pay for something w/ revenue from an un-guaranteed source of tax revenue. As this economy tanks and takes the global economy with it, demand for oil and thus the price of oil will drop. There will be no windfall profit to tax. - Reply to this comment
- "The bill''s total cost could reach $150 billion, these officials said."

After the recent corporate bailouts, a significant part of the population was saying "so where is my handout?"
Obama and the Democrats want you to know your handout is on the way if you elect them. I think McCain''s offer of a tax credit was much lower.
Only in America would that endless taxpayer piggy bank be continuously raided by both sides. - Reply to this comment
