The Senate better vote against this abomination. Let the Free Market fix the problem that the "Free market" caused!

No. It was the "trickle down economy" philosophy. One of our presidential candidates is more likely to lean toward caring for the rich and the rich corporations. Get your face out of Fox News (a contradiction in terms) and make up your own mind.

Regarding the bailout, granted, it''s the Democrats who started this program of lending mortgage loans to poor people. It started in Sept. 1999. It was a pilot program by Fannie Mae of easing credit requirements on loans. That it will purchase from banks and other lenders, because that''s what they do. It''s to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans and that included the illegal aliens. Supposedly, there was a lot of pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and there was pressure from stockholders to maintain Fannie Mae''s phenomenal growth and profits. In effect, the Clinton Administration was saying that if you''re black or brown, you get a loan. It doesn''t matter if you''re jobless, it doesn''t matter if your credit is bad or nonexistent, it doesn''t matter if you don''t have income, it doesn''t matter if you don''t have a down payment, you''re black or you''re an illegal alien here and don''t speak English, you get a loan.

Now, why didn''t anyone in the Republican Party put a stop to this nonsense?? You can say that it started with the Democrats but why didn''t the Republicans stop it??? They were there, they had the votes, and they were running things for the last 8 years. What''s the point of electing a Republican Congress and a Republican president if they don''t stop this kind of nonsense??? In fact, they did the opposite.

All of the reasons that we had to be proud of our country have been stolen from us by these unscrupulous people who have stolen the country blind, and are now attempting to steal one more bundle from our country, and leave her for dead at the side of the road. This is and has been the premeditated murder of our nation. Only if the American people rise up strong and united will this atrocity be diverted, and our once great nation live again.

As near as I can tell from what I have read and researched, this whole debacle was caused by a failure of nearly every regulator branch of government from local officials to state regulators, and on to the fed investigate the home loan industry and the bankers backing them. I hear people crying for regulations, but in reality, there were at least some regulations in place that should have kept it from happening had they been implemented, and those responsible for the overseeing of said regulations done their job.

In this case it was a totally failure, because millions of dollars was changing hands, and people at ever level was allowing prices to be inflated, because the bonuses were good.

Steel Monkey, you are quite correct that people should rise up and take back our country. Apart from Ron Paul I see no one remotely interested in the Nations Welfare. All those given employment by the people to run the Shop have had their hands deep into the cash register and almost without exception have failed to respect their employees. I see no future in either McCain or Obama and we should not be prepaired to settle for second best. Our government, almost to a man have sucked up to the evil amongst us and behaved no better than the corrupt dictators of a Communist Regime, they are no better or worse, they are the same model.

Obama''s change is NOT change, McCains Change is NOT change, simply more of the same. WE NEED RADICAL CHANGE, NOW!

You bring up a great point, where had the VP been hiding, and what sinister project is he working on now, and where is Rummy these days, what island is he living on, fearing that they will come after him for war crimes, once Bush is out of office.

Our country is in grave shape, that is a given, but the grave condition goes much deeper than the economic crisis. We have become inundated with crooked, uncaring greedy men and women at every level of government, and business leaders who care little about anyone or anything, but the bottom line.

All of the reasons that we had to be proud of our country have been stolen from us by these unscrupulous people who have stolen the country blind, and are now attempting to steal one more bundle from our country, and leave her for dead at the side of the road. Where are the two other Monkeys ? Along with Bush the two main players in this historical Rip Off have quietly slipped away, Rumsfelt to count his shares in Aspartame and Cheney busy re-organising Haliburton in Dubai. Whilst Bush pleads with the people he has ridden rough shod over during the last eight years, his chief partners in crime have conveniently disappeared from public view.

American Corporate greed has flushed this nation down the toilet and half the world with it, The Corrupt Corporate Lobby and those in Washington who have taken "BUNGS" from Big Pharma, have priced health care out of the reach of ordinary people, NOW those same people are being asked to save Bush and all those his policies benefited, from the noose. HE his proposing A Socialist FIX to his crooked capitalist non regulatory policy, a policy designed to line the pockets of his friends and family.

All Three of ''Em should be shackled and put on view at ground zero as a reminder of the evil deeds that our government have been responsible for and as a lesson to those who are tempted to repeat the offences against the People of America.

There is the question of having fun, and enjoying life. Used to be we had friends and neighbors over, and we sit around sharing our food, our drinks and talking about the future, and our accomplishments. Over the last year we have done that less and less and the last time we got together was clear back on Memorial Day weekend. Some of my friends are going through terrible times. For a couple of them, it has been so bad that I hardly know them. One couple lost their home last month, and another has cancer and they are slowly losing everything they have because of all the medical bills and other expenses, that no one even considers till a catastrophe like this strikes.

Still most of them like myself believe that if the hard times have got to come let them come. We''d rather see it now, than to have our younger children and grandchildren having to pay for bailing out those wall street crooks. Some of are or have been business owners. When we got in a jam we either had to get ourselves out, or close the doors.

I know that I am not alone when I say that I would rather lose everything, than to put a debt on our grandchildren that will burden them all of their days. For anyone to expect the government to bailout out those crooks just so their life will be better seems to me, to be quite selfish.

Here we go again. With messages to Congress running 100 ( at times 300) to 1 against the Great Scam Bailout, what part of NO don''t they understand? In Obama''s words "you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.

Congress is working so hard on the rescue bill...Just call Barack "Messiah" Obama..He''s telling everyone that he is going to do this and he is going to do that and everyone is believing him like we don''t have a Democracy and everything the president dreams up HAS to be approved by BOTH HOUSES..I can not believe our people are believing a word that comes out of his lying mouth.
Someone needs to ask Barack Hussein Obama to name "JUST ONE" just one corporation or company or small business who gets higher bills...whether it is a tax bill or a utility bill or a gas bill or any kind of bill....that ever takes the higher bills from their bottom line....Wake up America.....they pass ALL HIGHER COSTS OF DOING BUSINESS ON TO THE CONSUMER... so no matter what you call it...it is still higher prices for the middle America...I just can not believe how dumb the Democrats are....Duh......Just like Fred Thompson said at convention...."if you don''''t plan on buying anything, it won''''t affect you.....This really doesn''''t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out......Wake up America.... Someone in McCain''''s camp needs to stop every lie that comes out of Obama''''s mouth..... Now he''''s scaring those poor old people in Florida to death about their Social Security....Even IF ONE PERSON COULD PRIVATIZE Social Security...which one person CANNOT, if would not affect any person born before 1950..This is really a lousy way to try to get votes...by scaring old people...... Wake up America

Bush (and Republican) fiscal policies caused this mess. This "bailout" plan (or more correctly, the Bush rescue plan) was designed to keep the economy from melting down until after Bush leaves office. It does nothing more that buy Bush time. This is one mess Bush should not be allowed to run from. He''s run from responsibility all his life. He''s going to run from the Iraq war and leave a mess for someone else to clean up. He shouldn''t be allowed to run from this. He should be impeached.

You are spot on with your great comments. I hope every politican reads it the first thing tomorrow. I know I am going to get up early and phone all the politicans from here in Illinois. Obama, Durbin and Shimkus, then I am going to start with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, that Turn Coat Joe Liberman (he is a wolf in Repbulican''s clothing), Chris Dodd (who stands to make millions of the bailout, and so many others that I don''t have time to name them all.
Tell you neighbors to call, phone, visit, Lets hit the offices tomorrow of our representatives and Senators. We have Obama here in Illinois, only problem his never in Illinois.( I remember when we ran for the Senate against Alan Keyes...what ever happened to Alan Keyes after his payoff..?
Well, goodnight good citizens..I must go to sleep to prepare for my trips to the offices of these corrupt politicans. When your 70 it takes a little longer but I am still kicking and this time my foot just might connect with someone butt if they don''t start listening to the American people.

I gotta believe this Paulson/Bush "bailout" is a "get-all-you-can-while-you-still-can-plan" by the neo-cons before the republicans get banished to the wilderness this fall...

I''m just a little old nurse here in Oregon. I haven''t been very involved in politics. I just vote. But it appears to me that, all of congress and the Senate have colluded to rape and destroy the American economy in what amounts to Domestic Economic Terrorism. They and their ilk have done what the Iranians, the Arabs, the Russians, the Chinese and any other supposed enemies of democracy have been unable to do.

It appears that after this is over, America will no longer be an economic power.

Its pretty clear that I am going to lose my life savings/401K and the social security check that I was counting on in my retirement

Before a vote yes on any bailout package

1) ANY AND ALL COMPANY EXECUTIVES, OR CONTROLLING BOARD MEMBERS MUST HAVE ALL THEIR INDIVIDUAL WEALTH AND HOLDINGS CONFISCATED AND APPLIED TO THE BAIL OUT OF THE FINANCIAL COMPANY THAT THEY DESTROYED, PRIOR TO ONE DIME COMING OUT OF THE AMERICAN TAX PAYER''S POCKET.

2) MAKE SURE THAT THE TAKINGS INCLUDE ANY MONEY TRANSFERRED TO RELATIVES, OFF SHORE HOLDING, FOREIGN INVESTMENT, RETIREMENT PLANS, SEVERANCE PACKAGES...EVERY MEAN DIME.

3) THE WEALTHY PERPETRATORS OF THE DESTRUCTION SHOULD BE LEFT WITH EXACTLY WHAT ME AND PEOPLE LIKE ME WILL BE LEFT WITH.

3) THEY MUST ALSO INCLUDE IN THE TAKING THE HOLDINGS AND VAST WEALTH OF THE BUSH DYNASTY WHO CREATED THE FREE FOR ALL ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN.
