- Republicans blamed Pelosi''''s scathing speech near the close of the debate - which assailed Mr. Bush''''s economic policies and a "right-wing ideology of anything goes, no supervision, no discipline, no regulation" of financial markets - for the defeat.
"We could have gotten there today had it not been for the partisan speech that the speaker gave on the floor of the House," Boehner said.
Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., the whip, estimated that Pelosi''''s speech changed the minds of a dozen Republicans who might otherwise have supported the plan.
The partisan politics MUST STOP!!! Our country is in GRIDLOCK.

Republicans caught in yet another LIE -- updated report
Blunt told ABC News that only "one or two" Members could have been affected by Pelosi''s speech, adding "I think you don''t want to give too much blame to that speech." - Reply to this comment

- That amounted to an appalling accusation by Republicans against Republicans, said Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the Financial Services Committee: "Because somebody hurt their feelings, they decide to punish the country."
And just five years ago in a New York Times interview, Frank resisted calls for closer regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
He asserted that these two were in no danger, and that more regulation would hurt their ability to provide "affordable housing."
Yah - affordable housing to borrowers who CAN''T PAY FOR IT - and who are now SHUTTING DOWN OUR ECONOMY thanks to the likes of BARNEY FRANK. - Reply to this comment

- This shows what absense of leadership there is with Pelosi and Frank leading this charge.
Rep Frank needs to take ownership in this fiasco. His comments dating back as far as 2003 stating "these two entities, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not facing any kind of financial crisis," are to blame for this mess.
When will he admit culpability and stop blaming others? - Reply to this comment
- This ''''veto proof legislation'''' was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999[1]

Funny, I just read that entry a few days ago. The "veto proof" words WEREN''T THERE.
Someone just added them recently. I WONDER WHO....
So what if Clinton vetoed it and his veto was overridden. Today he''d be able to say the measure passed over his objections.
But now he''s as dirty as the rest.
