Democrats Will Allow 25-Year Ban On Drilling Off Coast To Expire
- " also comes in second among the states in oil production."
The amount of oil coming out of Alaska is a drop in the bucket, it may be 2nd in production but that statement means nothing. The 30 year old Alaskan pipeline is corroding, leaking and will need to be replaced $$$ Alaska is shipping half the oil it WAS yet Alakaskans use the highest amount of oil per capita of ANY state.
Oil - US Consumption: 20.73 million bbl/day (2004 est.)
China has seen oil consumption grow by 8% yearly since 2002, Alaska''s oil production has declined 65% since peaking in 1988
Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that''s a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.
Alaska''s share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska''s production accounted for only 2.4 percent. - Reply to this comment
- How much progress in alternative sources of energy for cars and trucks can be made in 7-10 years? That is how long it will be before any oil comes from the new areas. They could rush things and do a shoddy job and then think of all the new jobs created by a mojor oil spill on the east coast. Even when this oil is produced and stays in the US, it will have to be refined in the few refineries we have. So now we should be building more of those. I am sure you all want one built where you live. Will this really affect the world market of oil to a point where we will see drops in prices? The oil produced will still be at the world rate. In 10 years how many more people will own cars in China and India. If world consumption is the problem this is not the solution. We need to run transportation on something other than fossil fuels.

- Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry

Which will do NOTHING because ALL taxes, expenses and costs paid by businesses are simply PASSED ALONG in higher prices - Reply to this comment
- I am more worried about the U.S.''s inability to see to it''s energy needs. Everything we have needs to run on gas, our military being paramount. I could care less about he said, she said within our political parties. At the very least, we need to have the facilities available to drill oil and refine it. Currently, we are up the river without an oar. Being beholden to foreign countries that hate us is just plain stupid.
Yes, we DO need alternative energy, but in the meantime we need more drilling to offset our dependence on people who do not have our best interests at heart.
Do we really want to continue to be caught with our pants down, so that one or the other political party can pat themselves on the back? We''ll be spanked if we don''t do something NOW. - Reply to this comment
- Talking about 1929 TV hahaha there was no TV back then...

Invention of the Television
The Scotsman John Logie Baird invented television in the 1920s, by bringing together the work of some others, notably Paul Nipkow, who invented a spinning disk used to scan the image.
The first public demonstration of television was by John Logie Baird in Hastings, England in 1923. An official blue plaque marks the house where this took place. Hastings Museum hold various pieces of related correspondence. A further demonstration subsequently took place in a department store, Selfridges, in London England, by Mr Baird himself. This took place in 1925. The system was successful enough to become commercialised, and the BBC began the world''s first regular television broadcasts, using the Baird system, in 1936. By 1939, there were over 20,000 TV sets in use in and around London. A year later, in 1940, baird demonstrated a set which was capable of receiving colour pictures and stereo sound!
German, Paul Nipkow developed a rotating-disc technology to transmit pictures over wire in 1884 called the Nipkow disk. This was the very first electromechanical TV scanning system.
Electronic television is based on the development of the cathode ray tube, which is the picture tube found in modern TV sets. German scientist, Karl Braun invented the cathode ray tube oscilloscope (CRT) in 1897. - Reply to this comment
- I don''t know why people make such a fuss, I''ve lived on the gulf coast my whole life and the drilling off the coast here has never caused any major problems.

- So the other day oil went up $25 a bbl before settling on an increase of $16 bbl. This occurred even as demand is falling and inventories are rising. Any one of you Bush fellators still want to argue it''''s supply and demand and not the speculative markets?

What are you talking about? Most conservatives I know have been talking about the problem of speculators. That''s not a sole Democrat concern. You''re just not posting with enough diversified insight on what people think. I think this is an American problem and making it along party lines is old news and backtracking. - Reply to this comment
- Well the Oil Industry and the Republican Party created another false crisis to rape the American public of another natural resource. As the speculators get out of the oil market and oil once again returns to under $100 a barrel, the spineless, worthless Democrats once again cave to the abusers of our economy.
We do not need more oil in 10 years, we need alternate energy and conservation. Neither will now happen and you have the industry stooges in the Republican Party and the party that stands for NOTHING - the Democrats to blame. Total IDIOTS. - Reply to this comment
- The Great Emperor Bush II and his oldest clone, John McBush McCain, are pleased that they have achieved still another victory under their watch concerning off shore drilling.
The evil, cowardly Whimpo-crats have given up trying to prevent the forces of the "DARK SIDE" from turning the planet into the planet Mars, and instead have "caved" once again.
It matters little that the neocon Fascist National Socialist Nazi Republicans haven''t been right about ANYTHING since they took over Congress in 1996, nor does it matter that BIG OIL will now drill off the coasts to its heart content and realize even bigger profits selling the oil obtained, not to the USSA for worthless dollars, but to Europe and China where the currency is in a lot better shape.
What matters is the BIG OIL and its lobbyists will continue to make huge profits, that BIG OIL will continue to "contribute" handsomely to Congressmen, and the public be DAMMMED!
SIG HEIL, PROFITS FOR BIG OIL, BUSH!!!!
