Prosecutors Say Man Beat Cat To Death Because His Girlfriend Loved The Cat More Than Him; He Claims Self-Defense
- "WRONG. I''''ve seen cats do it. And I bet if one lunged and bit at me...it would have some similar injuries after I kicked it across the room. just because it died, doesn''''t mean it was tortured. I wouldn''''t torture the cat...but I would kick it." Posted by mjm117 at 03:51 PM : Sep 22, 2008
So if a child bit you or scratched you, is this what you would do to it? Kick it across the room? A child would be smarter than the cat and should know better. A cat isn''t going to attack for no reason, unless it has been abused. Why couldn''t you just give the cat a swat on the butt, just like you MIGHT do with a child? - Reply to this comment

- It was filled with comments of life in jail and even the death penalty.

Oh, I think people just like blowing off steam and getting outraged and indignant. I don''t take comments like that at face value.
This guy is a worm and he beat an defenseless animal to death. Then he had the stones to claim ''self-defense'' - which is an absurd defense. He doesn''t deserve to walk away from this scot-free, but he certainly doesn''t deserve a long prison sentence or worse. To demand that is absurd IMO. - Reply to this comment
- if he is found guilty, that defense argument should multiply the penalty by 1.5

- Taking a life, even if it is''just'' a cat ,in such a dispicable way should be punished. I do not think jail is the answer here, maybe a year of community service at the local humane society would show him the error of his ways..unless he gets help, you can bet there will be a bigger crime coming for which he can be jailed.

- Who did that? I''''ve been following this thread for some time and I haven''''t read any such nonsense. I certainly don''''t think so. However, I would like to see the law upheld and this man be punished for his crime as general legal guidelines (as I have stated) would call for.

This article (or a similar one) was posted on this website on Friday for the first time. It was filled with comments of life in jail and even the death penalty. I found it odd that someone could not decifer the difference between a human life and a cat. - Reply to this comment
- BTW I don''''t advocate sending him to jail. I would simply impose a very heavy fine, probation, community service and anger management counseling.

Joker, I actually agree with you there. A lot of community service actually, if he''s found guilty. Make him put something back into the community. - Reply to this comment

Hey, you don''t irritate me. I like engaging people who challenge my opinions. It makes it so much more satisfying when I shred their arguments ;)

Actually, in all honesty I do find it absurd that people on here have been calling for life in jail and even the death penalty in some cases.

Please. You''re doing nothing but whining about having to pay the bill for incarcerating this drunken lout.
Bush and Congress are about to bail out Wall Street with 700 BILLION DOLLARS of taxpayer money - and you''re whining about a few grand here? Geez man, get some perspective.

I think that is 100% absurd and a ridiculous use of taxpayer money. That is what started all this for me. I came on here to make a point about not locking him up for life and was called everything from a lunatic to an animal abuser myself. Just shows that a lot of people have no concept of putting emotions to the side and thinking about something "outside the box". Just because you love cats, does not mean this guy should go to jail for life.

- I don''''t know what kind of fantasy land you''''d have to live in to believe his side of the story, but my guess is you''''d be able to tell me the color of the sky there.

I didn''t say I believed his side of the story, I''m just posing the "what if''s". People are very quick to pass judgement. I also think it''s funny that everyone thinks that I''m a nut job because I have a different opinion (and that I hate cats).

- I imagine if you the cat was facing you, one kick could do that damage...face and chest...right?
Posted by mjm117 at 05:19 PM : Sep 22, 2008
I really doubt it. A kick would travel upwards and perhaps break the cat''s neck and cause _some_ of the damage to the mouth. Doesn''t explain the damage the ribs or the lungs. I believe it would actually be very hard to do that kind of massive and extensive damage with just one kick. Perhaps even impossible.
This guy has a history of violence - he slammed a woman''s HAND in a door and it snapped one of her finger''s clear off - and, again, he was drunk, angry and resentful of the cat.

- Do you think it''''s possible to do all that damage with one kick mjm117? I''''m no forensic pathologist, but to me that sounds like an animal that wasn''''t just kicked, but rather beaten to death by a maniac.

- Yes, let us, the taxpayers pay 22.5K a year to house him in a jail. Yes, that makes perfect sense.

- From the NY Post:
''The chisel-faced former Mets minor leaguer accused of murdering his girlfriend''s cat in a fit of rage has a hair-trigger temper with a history of domestic violence, neighbors said yesterday.
Several years ago, Petcka, 36, had an argument with a previous girlfriend and slammed a metal door on her fingers, said Mills. The girlfriend lost part of her finger and had to have it reattached, Mills said.
Cops confirmed the 2002 incident.''

Nice guy. Also, the cat ''suffered broken ribs, fractured teeth, torn lungs and a split tongue.''
