- ...and the cry goes up among the republicans: "What about the rich people? Who will help the wealthy?". I''m sick of republicans shifting money from the middle class to the wealthy through plans that need to be financed by the taxpayer after they fail. John McCain was front and center on deregulation...he should be apologizing for his role in this mess. McCain has no honor and instead of accepting his share of the blame tries to shift guilt to others by lying about his role in deregulation. Any working person that would consider voting for McCain in November has a hole in his/her head. The guy''s a bum.

you might want to check your dates. mccains statements that you cited in your post were made in may of 2006, while the republicans still had control of congress. the election that shifted the control (albeit minor) back to the democrats occured in nov of 2006.
but ... of course ... it''s all the democrats fault.
so it looks like that makes you another intellectually dishonest republican ... or possbily just an id!ot who knows nothing other than what you''re being told to repeat. - Reply to this comment

- Bush''s cycle of crisis then rush-through legislation with no foresight or oversight is criminal and intentional. He is creating each crisis in an effort to instill fear so you react in a fearful way that is to the advantage of big business and the disadvantage of you and I. Time to put a complete halt to such Rush-through legislation. Implement the laws we have now and put teeth in them and have non-partisan oversight. Bush is creating cycles of crisises then rush through legislation to the advantage of big business. We are loosing money, our rights, and now our country. Globalization is not good for the world on the whole.

- This may indeed become my generation''''s Great Depression (I am 52), because I do not think the $700 billion bailout is going to DO IT, and when the day is done, in let''''s say 10 years, America will emerge as no longer the biggest, or richest, or most innovative, or most potentially successful economy.
For years now, America has not been the most solvent economy, or the most innovative, and has been increasingly dependent on many other countries to service our debt, supply our energy, provide an increasing share of our goods and services, and the last check in the checkbook has just been written and we can''''t order any more checks, and our money is looking more and more like it came from a Monopoly game. - Reply to this comment

- Spin it however you want but the facts are clear. Greenspan saw this financial crisis coming in 2005 telling congress regarding Fannie and Freddie %u201Cwe are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk%u201D. John McCain also appeared before congress on May 25, 2006 said %u201CI join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole. I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation. The Democrats in charge did nothing. Barack Obama did nothing. He voted %u201Cpresent%u201D. If that bill had passed this problem would have never happened. Barack Obama%u2019s friend CEO of Fannie Mae chosen to select the VP candidate. Barack Obama received mind-blowing amounts of money from Fannie Mae and security investors. Barack Obama let all of this continue without so much as a peep, a chirp, and a squeak. Now he is voting %u201Cpresent%u201D again and consulting with the same crew what to do next.
