Comments on: Alaska Town Opens "Road To Nowhere"
But Without Bridge, $25 Million Gravel Road Good For Just Road Races And Hunting
- I live in nowhere land. Many locals feel that Mrs.Palin has sold Southeast Alaska in general and the Ketchikan area in particular, down the Narrows. She has never bothered to explain to the rest of the country why we need a bridge, that people in SE Alaska live on islands and the only way on or off islands is plane or boat. (Juneau has no road out)
As Ketchikans Airport is on Gravina, we still take a boat, even if we are taking a plane.
There has been a longtime rift between the voters of the Interior and Southeast. Check out the Capitol move movement and where the gov has stayed during a large part of her time in office. It is not the mansion in Juneau.
It became politically expedient to deny support of the bridge and so the Governor did just that.
She has not been an ally of Southeast Alaska. Our concerns have been treated as a joke to get a laugh from the good ol'' boys that she professes to be so different than. Huh. - Reply to this comment

- If you''re interested in more coverage about Palin, check this out.This is one of the most comprehensive page of information on Sarah Palin on the Internet ... including videos of her saying her proposed $30 billion pipeline is the %u201Cwill of God,%u201D her saying a month ago she doesn%u2019t know what the vice-president does, and her recently praising the biggest pork barrel spender in Congress Ted Stevens -

It has in-depth research, audio clips, videos, excerpts, and links to hundreds of articles, including many from newspapers and TV stations in Alaska. It has rare footage, including her telling the %u201808 convention of the Alaska Independence Party, whose aim is to give Alaska a vote on seceding from the U.S., to %u201Ckeep up the good work.%u201D The level of research is unparalled. The site%u2019s editors and volunteers include an Emmy-award winning CNN reporter, the former operating editor of the Monitor%u2019s web site, the former head of NPRs News Blog and the Executive Director of the Online News Association -

- Thanks, Governor Palin, for throwing away taxpayer money like this.
Interesting that CNN reported the same story yesterday but neglected to point out that Palin supported the bridge to nowhere until she was against it - after realizing it was going to be killed, anyway. I guess "liberal" CNN isn''t so liberal after all. Or maybe they''ve been brow-beaten into not doing anything that might appear in any way critical or negative about Palin. The Republican attack dogs did a great job with their preemptive strikes to protect Palin. Ironically, even if Palin doesn''t know what the "Bush Doctrine" is, it''s already been invoked in her favor. - Reply to this comment
- Wow, check it out! There''s an Alaska bridge and gravel road for sale on e-bay...go figgure?

- Palin:
-Believes that creationism should be taught in schools, not evolution;
-Believes that women shouldn''t have the right to choose; even in cases of rape and incest or severe medical indications;
-Believes that citizens should have the right to bear AK-47s;
-Believes only in abstinence education; despite the fact that her daughters have been having unprotected ***;
-Has only been out of the country once in her life and that was just last year;
-Belives homosexuals can be "converted";
-Is being investigated in 2 state firing scandals
-Was mayor of a small town with fewer than 6000 residents with a budget of less than 12 million a year and fewer than 50 city hall employees;
-Is governor of a state that is closer to Russia than to Florida;
-Was part of a group that wanted Alaska to succeed from the Union;
-Inquired to her local librarian about banning books and then fired the librarian when she stood up to Palin
And this woman could be our next vice president and possibly our president?!?!?! - Reply to this comment

- At last, a place that Alaska''s teenagers can get pregnant by Jesus--isn''t that what they learn in Alaska sexeducation classes?
Rape?--she had it coming. No rape kit for you, young lady! Sarah Palin says so! - Reply to this comment
- This may be one reason that the McClone campaign is terrified that Bush Baby Palin may actually have to answer some questions at the VP debate.
What McClone and Sarah wanted was for Sean O''Hannity and Bull O''Really to pitch her some softballs so she could sneer and screech. - Reply to this comment
- At the end of Bill Clinton''s presidency we had the highest budget surplus in our nation''s history. Now, eight years of near total Republican rule and we have an economy in the toilet, and endless war, spiraling debt, home values evaporating, record fuel, food and heating costs, massive financial institutions failing and collapsing and then being paid for by corporate welfare through taxpayer funds, and the neocons STILL try to blame the democrats. These are the facts. It''s just so incredibly pathetic.
McSame/Palin''s platform is the radical right wing agenda. McSame is no longer McCain, he''s completely reverted to type, and Palin is scary beyond all belief. She''ll be rolling around on the oval office floor speaking in "tongues". It is quite simply not possible to be patriotic American and vote for McSame. The ONLY reason anyone might want to vote for McSame is if they hate minorities and/or want to advance a radical religious agenda (Much like Iraq has done in their government).
Stop the hate. Be a patriot. Vote Obama/Biden 2008! - Reply to this comment
- The previous Alaskan Governor, Frank Murkowski, sponsored the Road to Nowhere. It was challenged immediately. Supporters of the Marine Ferry system across Southeast Alaska viewed the proposal as Murkowski''s attempt to weaken the ferry system. Palin supported the ferry system.
Many lawsuits were filed to stop the Road to Nowhere; and finally Palin replaced Murkowski.
The implications in this AP article are curious and misleading. But the intent is quite clear, as evidenced in this blog session.

- The state this week completed a $25 million gravel road that was intended to lead up to the bridge linking the city of Ketchikan to its airport on a neighboring island.
Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein said the 3.2-mile road now is ideal for road races and hunting, and possibly some commercial development. But with no bridge to serve it, that''s probably about it.
THE QUESTION IS: ARE YOU STUPID ENOUGH TO VOTE FOR McCAIN/PALIN?? - Reply to this comment

- !/4 mile from shore to shore I see a business in that. $10 round trip rent ant includes gas. I have had some big fast regular people boats in my time but the most fun was a 9 foot aluminum one with a 1.2 hp motor that used a cord with a knot to start it. You remember the spinning pulley on top. I think I could deal with a < mile. Maybe some fishing for dinner on the way back then I would have to go back for french fries cole slaw ketchup and tarter sauce. Cant eat fries without ketchup
