Hurricane Ike Survivors Contend With Devastation, Shortages, Blackouts; Death Toll Rises

We need to ask the Religious Right to tell us what Houston did to deserve Hurricane Ike''s devastation - you know, like they did for New Orleans after Katrina. Then, Katrina''s devastation was declared to be their just desserts for the plague of feminism, N.O.''s tolerance of ***, women''s reproductive civil liberties, etc. What is it for Houston, you think - their support of Ken Lay, W''s good friend? Their support for Bush himself? Was it for allowing TX to become the most polluted state in the US, and Houston to overtake LA as the most smog-ridden city in the country? Or maybe it was even their intolerance of ***. Maybe it was their trying to deny women the use of their own God-given common sense to determine how to manage their own bodies. "Vengeance is mine", saith the Lord ... I wonder if the Religious Right ever even considered that this might apply to them, as well.

I live in upstate NY and we had major wind last night. I lost power for 8hours and had 4 trees in my yard taken down. Ike visited us too!

It could be. Sometimes I think that''''s what this country needs. Either way, I''''m prepared.

Hey why don''t we ask Dobson whos fault this is. Wasn''t he the one who blamed Katrina on the evils of New Orleans. What evil did Galveston, it was the evangelicals right?

What''s the difference between God and a Texan?

God doesn''t think he''s a Texan.

Hello Texans:

Wondering how you faired with Ike, and if your families are safe and sound.

The pictures are awful so I can only imagine what it looks like in real life.

Not to mention a collapsed government.

But I guess that goes without saying.

When one mild storm in Houston knocks out gas stations in THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, this should tell us something''''s wrong...

Posted by txgrouch2006

Mild storm???? Are you sure you live in Texas? I think some of your compatriots to the East would disagree.

I hope this is a real wake-up call that WE HAVE FALLEN WAY BEHIND in the upkeep on our infrastructure.

Just to add to the chatter about other places affected, here in Cincinnati 90% of the populace lost power at some point yesterday with still over 50% without today, due to high winds (no rain here thank God). The last time they had such weather in this area? - 1900, right after the hurricane hit Galveston. Interesting huh?

RE: The hateful person who says Texans are being punished by God. If you believe that God is punishing people, then what is going to happen to you for being so hateful. Sounds like a Religious Right spitefulness fostered by the Republican regime. How are you better than them? The truth is that this is simply Man vs. Nature....Nature always wins. If you build houses in a hurricane zone, you are going to experience a hurricane eventually. My God is loving and forgiving...apparently some humans are not. May God bless those that are doing without and may they find shelter, jobs, and food.

Sorry you did not see the sarcasm, as in the religious right claiming God punished New Orleans'' sins with Katrina.

I agree with everything you said and also hope for the best for hard working Texans, even those who mistakenly voted for Bush.

I did have the same reaction to Louisana. I did not vote for Bush. Do you enjoy being a self-righteous moron?

Glad to see you grouch, Sounds like you received the same as Syracuse NY did. I don''t know if you saw my earlier post about it, but schools in upstate NY was closed because of wind damage from Ike.

Use your gas wisely, no telling when gas will come back on line.
