Sorry! :-) I guess NO PLACE is safe to live.
What do these "no pity for Texas" posters think? Should we just ABANDON EVERYPLACE because there might be a thunderstorm??? LOL!
Guess what, sissy boys. LIFE IS HARD. Get over it. - Reply to this comment
- oops, I meant "people."

- I can''t understand why people aren''t stepping up to help. At church yesterday, the minister didn''t even mention this disaster. I haven''t heard any pleas for donations. When Katrina hit, we pulled two truck trailers into the church parking lot and filled both. Volunteers in the church delivered them to the gulf.
Have we finally reached one too many to handle? Since 9/11 have we just had disasters one after another and everyone is burned out? - Reply to this comment
- After what happened in Katrina, why would people be stupid enough to stay in their homes during Ike. I can only think that 1)They wanted to die, or 2)They were hermits that never seen TV, read newpapers or talked to poeple.

- Its good to hear that you came through relatively unscathed txgrouch. I know I live not even 10 miles outside of New Orleans and for Katrina all we had was some slight roof damage and downed fences also. It truly was a miracle since everything around us seemed to be flooded. But if the levees in NO wouldn''t have failed than the levee in Kenner was certainly starting to (it had shifted a bit) and we would have been up to our eyeballs in water.
But I truly feel for the people in Texas because recovering from a disaster like this is so hard. I''ve been to Galveston one time, to see the church''s (and I''m not talking chicken joints) and it was so beautiful. It''s a shame. - Reply to this comment

Actually Bush was born in Connecticut. Should we wish ill on them too? I''m no Bush fan, but seriously, grow up. - Reply to this comment

- Now the school district has announced that schools are closed Wednesday, too. On Wednesday they''ll announce if schools will be open AT ALL this week.
This was only a category 2 storm that passed nearly 50 miles away. This area would be uninhabitable if it was category 3 or higher. - Reply to this comment
- Mild storm???? Are you sure you live in Texas? I think some of your compatriots to the East would disagree.

It was ONLY a category 2 hurricane. Where I am, that became a light rain and strong wind gusting up to 50 mph. Not much damage to homes, blew down lots of trees and fences. Our electricity was back on within 24 hours.
By Texas standards, that''s a MILD storm. :-) - Reply to this comment
- The pictures are awful so I can only imagine what it looks like in real life.

I''m 20 miles southwest of Houston. Real life here looks NOTHING like the news.
Lots of tree branches and fences blown down. There have been chainsaws and tree chippers running all day. Some folks were up on their roofs replacing shingles.
No flooding, only some light rain. Our electricity was out less than 24 hours. Our water never went off.
10 miles east of us, people were not quite so lucky. They are still without water or power.
The closer to the storm track, the worse it gets.
I finally found a grocery store open this morning. They were well supplied with water, milk, and frozen foods. Everything except sandwich meat. That was sold out.
Gas stations are still closed. But they are in the rest of the coutry, I''ve heard. - Reply to this comment
- I just want to say, I''''ve read all the comments, and I do get a laugh at some. Ya know, we got 5inches of rain and wind here in Missouri. Thank you Ike. No complaints, but if you need a place to crash, we don''t have much but you''re welcome to it. As my Dad alsways said, We will treat you so many ways you''''re bound to like one of them. And just know, we did not vote for Bush and we pay the price as well. But hey, there is still a place to lay your head and have a full belly doin it! Cheers to you all! Let the debates continue!

- To paraphrase former Sen. Phil Gram, McCain''s chief economic advisor: "Oh, quit your whining you average, everyday Texans! Don''t you realize that rich people lost a bunch of money on Wall Street today?"

- Bible prophecies fulfilled,or random acts of nature?
First New Orleans and Mobil, now Houston and Galveston
Who''s next, Miami? Jacksonville? Charleston (again)?
Maybe earthquakes in S.F. L.A., or Seattle? Twisters in Chicago, St. Louis or Detroit?
These events have occured over and over through the centuries, before the U.S. as we know it existed, and keeping the Indians in a state of apprehension.
Now we have great populations and the media to report events. Nature hasn''t changed, but man needs to learn to adapt to it, something we haven''t yet done and maybe never will. The lure of the seacoast and city trumps the need for common sense. - Reply to this comment

- What is wrong with this comment board that the word "gay" is censored? That''s "Gee-ay-why", rhymes with ray, way, say, pay, and nay, and it refers to people who are attracted to their own gender. Is this a Phyllis Schlafly/James Dobson website or something?
