Yah, gosh this global warming thing is bad.

This category 2 hurricane is ALMOST as strong as the hurricane we had 25 YEARS AGO.

Wake up. Or go back to sleep. Whatever. Maybe it''''s time for your meds.

That is true. A cat 2 is just as strong today as a cat 2 was 25 years ago.

But I am guessing the reason we see what seems to be so many more currently is 1) better and more thorough news coverage and prediction/sightings; 2) there are more stronger storms due in part to global warming.

I grew up on the TX coast, I remember strong storms growing up, but not as many on a year-to-year basis. Back in the 60''s and 70''s we didn''t get past the G names, much less into Katrina or Rita, and now Ike.

Gas in my area, that being the Ohio Valley went from $3.73 this morning to $4.69 by lunch time. If the oil companies are going to do me, the least they could do is give me a kiss afterwards.

I''''ve got to run to the liquor store and stock up on whiskey before this massive storm (?) hits.
Posted by tuckerndfw at 03:22 PM : Sep 12, 2008

But I thought D/FW was in a DRY COUNTY. It''s going to be a LONG RUN to find whiskey.

Oh, wait - they suspend the "dry county" thing in DOWNTOWN DALLAS. Wouldn''t want to run off the visiting businessmen and tourists.

Religious piety is one thing - economic activity is a whole nother ball game.

It didn''''t change much in the late 70''''''''s either. I know the 2nd year I was working security patrols, Houston had the most deadliest years for security on record. Not only clerks were getting killed while working, but in 78 a guard was killed just about every day in that year.

Isn''t that when Her Snottiness, Kathy Whitmire was the mayor?

She seemed to loathe the police. She refused to hire any as Houston kept growing. Crime went up exponentially.

Then she started proposing to build a monorail "like the one at Disneyland," and the fired the Transit Authority boss, Bob Lanier when he wouldn''t support the idea. Not knowing how to build a monorail herself, she started designing a THIRD intercontinental airport as a monument to herself, which was eventually defeated over environmental concerns (one of the few times I was happy for THAT to happen).

In the next election, the voters replaced Her Snottiness with - guess who - BOB LANIER! He immediately hired over 600 cops. The crime rate plummeted, and he became one of the best liked mayors in history.

Houston has a light rail train in the downtown area today - not a monorail. And Houston is no longer the "murder capital of the USA."

Now Washington, DC is... But what do you expect when they elect a crack head BACK INTO office.

This is god''s way of giving his opinion on what oil companies are doing to his children in his name, man proposes and god disposes. So does this mean that IF the oil companies were totally wiped off the face of the earth like a good colon cleansing, they would want the government to rescue them from financial ruin, like the kind they are doing to the rest of us? What goes around, comes around....karma baby.

I have the definite image of red chevy sedans with the Smith logo on the door. But, it''''s been a long time.

Yes it was a long time ago.

Seems like a whole other life for me. I suppose, because you were 10 yrs before me, they could have had red cars in the 60''s, then done away with them for a few yrs. Then went back to them. Hell I dunno,,,,,,,,,LOL

Don''t matter really, in the grand scheme of things.

For all you Texans:

Keep your heads down and stay safe (and dry!)
