Poor child..I will say This is wrong. That poor boy. He was bold..there was no reason to have shot him.. Some lose their hair, and surely he wanted hair.. What a pity..No child has the right to make fun, bully a child over this and or handicaps, skin colour,gender..I was and still made fun of as a legally blind person, So where is the caring loving we were taught.is it gone.. Now gramma must lay her grandson to rest. This is SICK. Killed cos of a medical thing..unable to grow hair..Find the shooter and shave his/her head bold..

There was an old bumper sticker once... about how the media is only as liberal as the conservative management that ran them.

In short, it''s neither liberal or conservative. It''s all about the most common denominator for the largest quantity of money.

Let the bully boys beware. Kids have a right to defend themselves like adults do. If this kid was being bullied at school...this other kid should have been nicer.

If the story is correct, it was the bully who killed the bullied. Revenge, self defence or whatever would suggest it would be the other way round.

" the problem is that in families with problem children it is the lack of parental influence resulting in those items becoming the predominant influence in childrens lives".

as a knoxvillian i am stunned by 2 stupid shootings in my town in a few weeks, but laws already exist that folks under 21 cannot buy handguns and its already illegal to carry a gun to schools. gun laws are not the solution, but today i am unsure what will keep people from doing violent acts for no real reason. first in a church with 2 dead several wounded and now a school people have gone nuts

This list contains 41 locations of spree shootings in schools (no mention of workplace or just for the he11 of it shootings) in this country in I''''d guess around 20 years. In my 52 years I remember 3 spree shootings in the UK, 1 each in Germany and Switzerland and 2 in Finland (and only one of those was comitted by a student). I''''m not even going to get on the "The US has guns, Europe doesn''''t" bandwagon here, I just ask why do so many American kids do this? Kids are under stress in Europe; if anything they generally have a far more "liberal" upbringing than over here; there''''s poverty in Europe; there''''s God knows how many nationalities and races that have to get along; European kids watch as many Hollywood movies and video games as US kids do and yet with the growing exception of gang problems, European kids don''''t run around killing each other. What is the big difference?

So I assume this means you reckon the shooter broke 9 different laws? Sounds like a patent lawyer wrote the silly thing!! No wonder there are so many ways around keeping the buggers in jail.

All that (and I''m sure the reams of legal verbage associated with it) could be replaced with "Use of a gun in commission of a crime - 20 years, no parole; Murder - life, no parole." There''d probably better be one in between concerned with no-fatal wounding as well. No ifs, ands or buts, deals, or decisions; just straight gone!!!

How ''bout a quick background check? Medications, mental problems, something like that. - Posted by do_not_know

We already have the Federal Instant Background Check law that was part of the Brady bill. It was designed to capture disqualifying information related to gun purchasers, such as felony convictions, mental illness, non-resident status, etc. Some recent cases, such as the Virginia Tech massacre, illustrate holes in the administration of the system where mental health information was not reported, when it clearly should have been. A great deal can be done to improve the existing system.

The NRA, GOP and all sane Americans urge and support the prosecution and punishment of criminals who commit these types of crimes. We already have enough laws on the books to accomplish this. New restrictive laws will not prevent this type of crime, and will likely only create new victims from the law abiding citizens who obey them.

Well said! And should be repeated. Often.

I have said many times that we don''t enforce the laws that we do have. Yet people want to pass more laws that are just as ineffective as laws that are on the books already. But, with each new law that does get passed, we lose a different right, each and everytime.

Not sure about a gun lisence - I think the NRA is totally against that. Most states do require background checks that are supposed to take into account mental problems. There are obviously loop-holes in background checks.

I''''ll bet meth labs don''''t put a serial number/ownership on their homemade meth labs yet meth/heroin/pick one and combine the total, it kills more people than guns -

Posted by sbbm

I Googled your point about drugs killing more people than guns - found this:

Tobacco (Average 1990 - 94): 430,700 (1)
Alcohol (1996): ...... 110,640 (2)
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs (1982 / 1998): .. 32,000 (3)
Suicide (1998): ....... 30,575 (4)
Homicide (1998): .... 18,272 (5)
All licit and illicit drug-induced deaths (1998): ..... 16,926 (6)
Non-Steroidal Anti- Inflammatory Drugs (1992):... 7,600 (7)
Marijuana: ............. 0 (8)

Note guns: 20,000 or so - 30-35,000 if you count suicides.
