- Actually, it is true. Another book called "Sisterhood of Spies" documents a number of women who were in covert operations during WWII. They were not necessarily in "James Bond" type of jobs, but did a lot of code breaking, propaganda and so on. BTW, Julia Childs was not yet a chef--that came after the war.

- I think that it is important to let the declassified documents speak for themselves. If the US govt documents say that Julia Child was a spy, then any amount of disbelief is foolish. The key is that the documents report on 24,000 individuals. They are probably all dead by now so it probably does not matter if the inforamtion revealed to the public. As we can see from the blogs, skepticism runs high. It is indeed an unfortuate set of writings.

- Yes, it is a known fact that Julia was in France just prior to D-Day getting recipes and doing a little spying on the side. It is reported that she told Eisenhower the landing beaches were clear and he would have no trouble on Ohama or Utah Beach.

- Julia Child''s voice alone could have been a ''secret weapon''. Play that over the airwaves and the enemy would have keeled over dead!
