Unprecedented Resolution Apologizes For Slavery, Jim Crow
- This is a load of B$! "We''re sorry your great grandparents were oppressed by ours!" We aren''t the same people, the innocent should not apologize. I see blacks as equal and all, but quit declaring everything racist, then turning it into national news! If we are trying to break racial boundaries, quit thinking everything is biased against your race! It''s all turning more into a publicity stunt, than a fight against racism.

Oh good. Finally. Now we can put the issue to rest and all move forward with no more hard feelings, resentment or continued thoughts of racism.
Now "people of color" (a.k.a. black people, African Americans, etc.) can finally get on with their lives, raise good upstanding families, get proper educations, work hard for a paycheck, etc. where such things were not possible before this apology.
We have not yet apologized to the Orientals for our treatment during/after WWII so I guess those folks will have to continue to live the restrained/opressed lives that they do today. - Reply to this comment
- louiville2, how educated of you to quote a 148 year old census to try to justify what? A racist mindset perhaps? Let me propose a scenario for you: if there are 3,000 -- or 3,738,011 for that matter -- people living in a city & you kill just 1 of them does that make you any less of a murderer than if you killed the other 2,999 (or 3,738,010)?
Don''t generalize by espousing that all Blacks keep believing they are victims in an attempt to defend the indefensible position that this apology is long overdue. That simply doesn''t fly. - Reply to this comment
- I am so sick and tired of people calling my ancestors slave owners and racists. I am from East Tennessee. Most of my family did fight for the South, but not for slaves. Most could not afford them. My family was dirt poor. I have black friends that I love dearly. They understand that I can''t help what happened 150 years ago. Admitted, there might have been some slave owners that I do not know about. But I do not owe an apology for something I did not do. Everything that my ancestors fought for has been trashed. We no longer have states'' rights. The federal government keeps sticking it''s liberal nose in on everything we do. That''s what the war was about to my ancestors. They fought galliantly for our national flag, which was not the rebel flag!. Although we are not allowed to fly rebel flags without being called a racist. Our nation continues it''s downward slide. Not because of racist southerners, but because yankee liberals want to impose their views on eveyone. They believe that throwing government programs at minorities helps them when it doesn''t. God helps people, nto the government!

- Actually, the black Africans introduced slavery to the white Europeans and made money selling their own kind to the Europeans. The black African slave traders knew what they were doing and no one has ever held them accountable. Yet, blacks only hold whites solely responsible for slavery in this nation. I guess it''s OK what their own kind did to them?

- Compiled from an 1860 census. But why let the truth get in way of a good story.
"The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves (1). Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 percent of southern whites owning one or more slaves).
According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country''s leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.
To return to the census figures quoted above, this 28 percent is certainly impressive when compared to less than 1.4 percent of all American whites and less than 4.8 percent of southern whites. The statistics show that, when free, blacks disproportionately became slave masters."
They know it%u2019s true why haven%u2019t your leaders told you.
Why because it keeps Blacks believing they are victims. Politicians and ministers need, to keep the money flowing, for people to be victims that of course they have the cure. This victim hood mentality is key to their survival. Drop the chip on your shoulders and lets talk. - Reply to this comment
- Dear messiah, your comments are ignorant. If you knew what you were talking about you''d know that the Jewish community has received reparations, the Japanese has had an official apology, and the Indians have casinos, government assistance (not welfare) and have college programs set up that makes continuing their education easier. Blacks can only wish to receive the compensation these other past victims of atrocities have. Idiot.

- concerns47 ...... So following the lines of your logic, that would mean since the terrorists who destroyed the towers used U.S. planes, and received pilots licenses from this country, then we shouldn''t be after Bin Laden, but should blame ourselves?

- I have waited for this a long time! This is what I have wanted for a long time. I wished CBS, NBC, and ABC can do a story about this. NOW, I have something to be proud of America!
