The conservative people I know would be the ones stepping in front of the gun to protect the kids and not holding it.

It is tragic that so many would use this tragic death as one more level to the stack of soap boxes that they already stand and preach from in these forums.
I admitt that if it were a mentally disturbed "Liberal" that had "finally snapped" in this case there would be an equal number of conservative favoring bloggers pulling out their soap boxes.

The fact that the poster to whom you responded used the word "liberal," proves my point exactly. this person assumes hir/her/its'''' own view to actually be the view of "millions", this is delusional.

Add to thais the fact that the modern "conservatives" are actually super-liberal when it comes to welfare for the rich, or imposing their view on other societies for examples, and it becomes obvious that the poster is more concerned with labels than with policies, a seperation from reality that is also delusional.

I hear what you''re saying. They aren''t the most "un-assuming" people in the world are they?

My friend, you''re either a revisionist or delusional, but note the following points:

1. No liberal---presumably congressman---is telling you how to live, they have bigger things to worry about!

2. Tax money goes into a pool, no one''s directly paid with yours''.

3. No one''s raising your taxes, to pay for illegals!

4. Congress didn''t support to send you or anyone else to fight in a war---GET THIS STRAIGHT---they voted for an authorization to BUSH to take action---he promised he''d seek peaceful means, then after getting it, launched a WAR!

5. Congress hasn''t put up ''the white flag''! They have continued to stupidly fund the slaughter!

6. The media is supposed to report the truth. Rarely, have they gone negative as you say! Unfortunately, the majority of news out of Iraq WAS negative. Most of the time, they just suppress it! You''d have them LIE!

7. If you were in ''Nam, the press DIDN''T lose that war. And, they won''t lose this one, either! Poor management from Bush/Cheney & co. is what will lose it!

I blame the GOP and the Republican Party for promoting and encouraging hate rhetoric on these right-wing talk shows and blog sites.

Somehow I doubt that the left has the mentality to engage in violent struggle with the right. I also am not yet convinced that the left has what it takes to stand against the corruption of the government. During the civil rights struggles of the 60s, one complaint of the victims of apartheid was that the left talked the correct game, but were vastly underrepresented, or even reversed their stands when the time came for action.

The vast majority of those who would commit such an act as the subject of this story have been the extreme right. I believe that they hold a delusional mindset that would fit the description of socio-psychopath, but it hasn''t been classified as a mental illness simply because enough of those with it are in government, of the "elite class," and so can prevent such a delusional architecture from being classified as the mental illness that it is.

Millions of people hate liberals. Most of them just show their hatred on Election Day. Only a nutjob uses violence.

Seems to me this is one of the results (or products) of a little something called demonization.
It''s happened before. Perhaps the best example would be the demonization of Japanese during WW2. They were demonized and labelled as "***". Many suffered because of that.
One of the effects of demonization is dehumanization. It''s a quick and easy way to strip away humanity, turning the adversary into an object.
And guess who is the champion demonizer of liberals... that''s right, the neo-cons. The first time I heard the term liberal spoken in a pejorative way was from a neo-con.
It''s funny how these folks simply cannot do adversity without demonization and labelling.

I can hear the NRA spin machine already, "If the church members were all armed, they could have stopped the shooter..."

Perhaps they might wait a bit before starting in, but with those types you never know, literally nothing is sacred to them.

I can understand where this man was coming from but he is wrong in using violence to voice his objections. I too get frustrated when the liberals want to tell me how I should live. How they take my tax dollars and give it those who do nothing for it except whine as to why they''''re not given more. I get angry when these same loons want to raise my taxes to pay for those here illegally. I really get angry when they support and vote to send me to fight in a war but throw up the white flag as soon as the media goes negative. Same thing happened when I went to Vietnam. They lost that war for us and they will make us lose this one to to.

Then, as now, what is losing the war is that the entire premise of it is based on lies. Even the most virulent war hawk, McNamara, admitted as much. You were fighting for nothing, and so you won nothing, while Bechtel and Halliburton became rich enough to force Nixon to sell the gold from the treasury, because there wasn''t enough to cover the paper printed just to have currency left for domestic circulation.

Then, as now, it is impossible to "win" a war based on lies, because there is nothing to "win." You were just cannon fodder for the war profiteers, just as today''s soldiers in Iraq are. The lesson that Vietnam taught most of us has been lost on you.

The picture of the perp is the quintessential picture of a neo-con lemming. You could easily apply his face to the faces of those who unintelligently spew the standard fascist hatred on these boards on a regular basis. ("LibH8er", "edintex", and "mbcsmith" for example).

My greatest fear, however, when the time comes to take back our government by force... (and I mean FORCE)... is that the extreme ideologues on both sides will be wasting time fighting each other rather than the real entity that has caused this divisiveness and essentially, America''''s downward spiral to begin with.

pirmin3---I sincerely hope that you are not serious. If so, perhaps you are as misguided as the shooter. Either that or you should seriously be shamed for making light of such a tragic event. Have some sense of decency and respect for the victim''s families!

By seeing "edintex", "mbcsmith", "LibH8er", and "GOP_forever" on these boards, we know through basic process-of-elimination that they were not the shooter (surprisingly).

Perhaps one of the more virulent anti-liberal posters to these threads is now missing?

Sadly, I see this episode as a failure of society to address its ills. The shooter was frustrated with being unemployed and having his food stamps cut. He thought of the things he resented about his childhood - the upbringing that led him to where he is today, and took his anger and frustrations out on the easiest and most vulnerable target he could find. It''''s tragic - I imagine he felt abandoned by everyone and everything around him. Usually, when these things happens, it''''s not really about what shows on the surface. My condolences to the victims and their families, and to the congregation.

It is indeed a failure of society. It is a shame that someone gets driven to this extreme.

In this very bad time one person stands out. That being the man that blocked the gunman from shooting anymore than he did. He gave his life to save no telling how many more. It gave the other men time to jump this mad man and stop the killing.
