FBI Probing Hate Crime Angle After Gunman Kills 2 In Tennessee Church During Children's Play
- stn_sage
When i came back from nam and was beig debriefed, we were asked what we thought was causing us to lose the war. My response was color tv. When asked why, i said American people didn''t mind investing in war, the econlmy was good, it created jobs. But when you bring the war home in living color and shove it in the face of the American people, they didn''t like to be reminded of what they were supporting. - Reply to this comment

The tragic thing is that the madman at the church was armed.
The heroic thing is that an unarmed person protected the others - with his life.
Better get your story right. - Reply to this comment
- The tragic thing is that no one at the church was armed, so they were unable to really protect others from a madman. Madmen have existed since the beginning of humanity and will be among us until the end. No amount of prayer and moralizing has or ever will change that. All we can do is be prepared.

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR. I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE MAN THAT GOT KILLED WHILE PROTECTING OTHER CHURCH MEMBERS. - Reply to this comment
- ps the guy who stepped in front of the gun WAS a political conservative
At this point in time who are we to say that this man was a liberal or a conservative??????
He could have just liked some of the people that went to that church. I know that I don''t like what the group as a whole stands for but, lets please not knock a man that has done what this man has done. - Reply to this comment
- oh i forgot--everyone here is also lawyers, political scientists, etc, etc...the only true way we will know why this guy did what he did is when the trial comes up or if he decides to tell why..otherwise the rest of us will be assuming things and you know the old saying--if you assume you are making an *** out of u and me both.

The guy is a member of a church that accepts *** and lesbians as members and lobbies for the ACLU and gay/lesbian civil rights. That is antithetical to the GOP platform. So no, the gentlemen who protected the others is not a "conservative".

He may not have been a conservative but he gave his life so that other could live. That says a lot about a
mans character. For someone to give their life to save others is the ultimate gift. That is like a solider jumping on a hand grenade to save his fellow men and or women. When that is done it is over...... - Reply to this comment
- as usual, the same pathetic name-calling, the same bushie blame games, etc, etc. the shooter in this story obviously had some major mental problems, otherwise he would not have done something this horrid--i really don''t care what his justification is--he obviously doesn''t have all his dogs on the same leash--one''s political beliefs do not necessarily make them candidates for the funny farm--oh i forgot, everyone here has degrees in psych and is completely capable of diagnosiing someone else''s mental issues just on what they post here--if this is the caliber of people that will be voting in november or doing any other responsible adult functions, this country is screwed royally.

And another thing, you miss the point. It DOES NOT matter whether the guy who stepped in front of the gun was liberal, conservative, or anything else. What matters is that the shooter LABELLED him as a liberal. Which is the direct result of demonization.
There was an event a few years ago (I can''t remember the details) where another nutjob murdered what he thought was a Muslim. A hate crime. Turned out the victim wasn''t a Muslim at all, he was a Sikh. See what I mean about labelling. - Reply to this comment

I didn''t mean for my final comment to be taken literally. It was meant philosophically in juxtaposition to the hate that the GOP/evangelical alliance stands for!
NO, I''m fully committed in my belief that this administration needs to stand accountable for all its'' criminal offenses! If it''s not, few people will take the law---legal code---seriously again! - Reply to this comment
- No, don''''t forgive them, because if they escape retribution, they will then believe themselves correct, and repeat it.

My response: I''m speaking in a military sense here.
To achieve a military victory, you''d have to enact Draconian measures. ''Victory'' can only be achieved through a political settlement between the parties.
If no agreement is forthcoming, no victory can be
achieved. You''re commenting to the choir on this! :) - Reply to this comment

- I blame the GOP and the Republican Party for promoting and encouraging hate rhetoric on these right-wing talk shows and blog sites.

I think you''re correct! They promote and even encourage it their followers! It gets to the point
where they think it''s OK just to be abuse, belligerent, and demanding and these factors are suitable replacements for reasoned thinking and discussion!
The GOP has transformed itself from a real political party to a HATE GROUP! And, should be recognized as such!
The interesting aspect is the elements of the evangelical movement who have signed on to this GOP/hate group! They show us that THEY aren''t a real religious group, either!
The allegiance between the GOP/evangelicals is based on HATE! Hatred of man, of government, of America, of foreigners, of the world, and ultimately of GOD!
Forgive them, for they know not what they do! AMEN. - Reply to this comment
- The conservative people I know would be the ones stepping in front of the gun to protect the kids and not holding it.
It is tragic that so many would use this tragic death as one more level to the stack of soap boxes that they already stand and preach from in these forums.
I admitt that if it were a mentally disturbed "Liberal" that had "finally snapped" in this case there would be an equal number of conservative favoring bloggers pulling out their soap boxes.

Perhaps the guy who stepped in front of the gun WAS a political conservative - we don''t know now do we?
The point is that the guy pulling the trigger LABELLED him as a "liberal". This, as a direct result of the demonization of liberals which gave him something to focus his hate and anger on. - Reply to this comment

Any war based on lies is lost from the start. Vietnam was a prime example, we "lost" because there was really nothing to "win", same as Iraq. We can occupy them until bankruptcy forces us to withdraw, the power struggle to replace Saddam will proceed from that very minute, and they will never willingly accept an American puppet, this is why there can be no "victory". - Reply to this comment
