I wonder how many cases of domestic violence, alcoholism and suicide there were from returning World War II vets. I would imagine it would have been a pretty high amount. And the reasons would be because they had no one to go to and they were expected to suck it up and deal with it themselves. We have come to learn that war injuries are not just physical but mental and have been trying to find the best ways to treat them. With that said, I salute these Vets who are seeking help to deal with what they went through and also the organizations that are there to help them. I also believe that we need more such organizations to help these people out, weather the issues are physical or mental. These Vets have been there for us and we need to be there for them. War has been and will always be brutal and horrific. It is suppose to be. Otherwise as President Lincoln pointed out, we would depend on it to solve all of our problems.

VETERANS WOULDN''T FEEL THIS WAY, IF WE ACTUALLY KICKED A$$ IN THIS COUNTRIES. THE WHOLE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU CANNOT DEFEAT MUSLIMS! DO YOU KNOW WHAT ISLAM TEACHES? IT TEACHES VIOLENCE! THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE PROGRESS IN AFGHANASTAN AND IRAQ IS TO "FORCE" AND I DO MEAN "FORCE" THEM TO BECOME CHRISTIAN. ISLAM''S PENALTY FOR APOSTACY IS DEATH. SURPRISED? EVERYTHING ABOUT ISLAM ULTIMATELY LEADS TO CONTROL, DENYING INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS, AND ULTIMATELY ESPOUSES VIOLENCE AND DEATH. IT IS THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE ELEMENT OF THE WARS.

michael0004 - EXACTLY....seems every time you mention bring them home or dump Bush''s a$$ you get the bull$hit about Support your troops. Well because we DO NOT AGREE with the war DOES NOT MEAN WE DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!!!

Re "Support our Troops" magnets on cars:

I always thought the phrase was incomplete and should have read: "Support Our Troops - Impeach Bush".

When Bush and all those SUV drivers sporting yellow magnets said "Support Our Troops" what exactly did they mean?

What comes to mind is avoiding unnecessary conflicts, providing proper equipment& man power when we have to fight and giving world-class health / benefits. It is obvious that''s not what these faux patriots meant at all.

I guess it just meant voting for Bush twice and putting a silly magnet on your truck to make yourself feel good.

They just had an article about a new therapy in Ladies'' Home Journal that sounds a bit like the one they showed on CNN where they have veterans go back and relive whatever trauma is preoccupying them. Kind of like post-game analysis with the goal being that in the second time around they can re-do it with a sense of feeling like they''re in control (?)

It''s supposed to have a higher success rate in much shorter time . . . hopefully it''s as promising as it sounds (?)

I remember saying when everyone was gung-ho about envading Iraq that these soldiers would be dropped in the greese just like we vietnam vets were. All you people yelling "support the troops" and calling me un-american and saying if I didn''''t like it here leave. Well are you now going to tell all these kids to leave. You people amaze me with all your talk of caring but what have you really done to "support the troops" except talk. You support the troops in sending them to three, four and five tours of combat but then toss them away like used toilet paper when they are of no more use to you.

Though the death toll in Iraq has fallen, it is still psychologically taxing on the soldiers. Human beings are not meant to witness that type of violence. Real life war is a lot different than TV violence.

My vote for President this Novmeber will go the candidate who I feel is most likely to provide the needed support for our troops both in Iraq/Afghanistan and those who have returned. And if one of them wants my vote as a "slam dunk", it would only take an announcement that he would fire all of the people in charge of the VA and replace them with people who will truly be committed to supporting our veterans, past and present. That''s the only way for true, long term change at the VA.

i''d be depressed too if i''d lost buddies and then found out my "commander-in-chief" lied me into the war....for soldiers are willing to take the risk, and they ask only the Truth in return.
