Comments on: Republicans Defeat Gas Price Relief Bill
Democrats Claimed Releasing 70 Million Barrels Of Oil Would Loosen National Stockpile And Bring Down Prices
I want to totally get away from using it all together!!
It was great in Henry Ford''''s time but lets get on with the future and quit looking backward.

Oil is used for more than just home heating and fuel for your car! It''s naive to think we could stop using it altogether! Our entire infrastructure uses oil! What the heck do you think you drive on? Do you realize the amount of oil needed to keep our roads paved? ALL industries need oil to manufacture the goods you use and the food you put on your table!
We should be doing EVERYTHING to be INDEPENDENT from Foreign energy sources, including Wind, Nuclear, Drilling, Alternative Technologies..... ANYTHING!
Get away from using it altogether indeed! WAKE UP!- Reply to this comment
- We have a 60 year known supply of propane/natural gas a unknown supply of methane gas which all three are cheaper, cleaner and easier on a cars engine so why are we not converting to these? There are hydro cells already being used in new vehicles in CA, if mass produced the cost of this would significantly decrease. I am so glad that we have "visionary politicians" on both sides of the aisle whose pockets are lined with lobbyist money who have sold our nation. The only thing we are producing nowdays in the US is syphliss and religion/politics.

- Personally I could care less if it went to $10 a gallon, The freeway commutes are getting much more pleasant.

- Blame the decades long obstinence on this entire issue to the Democratic persuaded and influenced environmentalist critter and tree lovers. Blame also those that promoted ethanol, like Obama going along with handouts in the form of tax incentives to the producers. Food should never have been used as a bargaining chip where fuel is concerned. Ethanol is driving the price upwards for the majority of food related/based products.

- The US has certainly learned the lessons the Republicans taught during the last 8 years. Yep. I''m sure happy about what they''ve done: a ruined economy bleeding wealth from every one of its orifices in the name of unregulated free market capitalism. Now, to complete the job of ruining the US started by the Republicans, the Democrats are going to stifle the US''s ability to stop the bleeding by doing nothing about the Communist Chinese trade deficit and stifling US energy independence by stifling exploration and drilling for natural gas and oil. There was once an America that believed that it was better to die bravely on its feet than live fearfully on its knees. Watching people like George Bush and *** Cheney and their right wing elitist controllers and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and their left wing elitist controllers address the problems of this Nation, it seems clear that that America is no more. Too bad. We were once a great Nation; now we are a Nation in decline watching as our wealth is being transferred to our enemies with the value of our currency reflecting the Nation''s lack of wealth and wealth producing capacity; now we are a Nation selling our national infrastructure--ports, roads, iconic businesses, etc., to our enemies; now we are buyers of cheap Communist Chinese goods, handholders with cheap tinhorn Saudi oil sheiks, watching as our true military worth is humiliated by the Russians swarming over the North Pole and readying bases in Venezuela.

- Over 70% of Americans want this Do Nothing Democrat Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling, but they won''t.
And they won''t because they are being PAID by the environmental lobby not to.
My fellow Americans we cannot HOPE for lower energy prices.
We have to VOTE for lower energy prices.
Vote REPUBLICAN on November 4th and lets send these Do Nothing Democrats home for looking after the interests of their special interest group, Enviro''s instead of looking after the interests of the American people.
Enough is Enough with the Democrats and their blocking of "domestic" development and production of OUR natural resources.
This Party, the Democrats are 100% responsible for the suffering of millions of Americans.

I bet your one of the dumb ***** that wants to reopen NAFTA? When you do the canadians, if they can get new, non-bush, leaders will scrap the whole thing. Then we can start paying the same price for gas that they do. Right now about $5 US a gallon! And it''s their gas! Do you really want a level playing field? Or as usual just an advantage. You want to burn it - pay for it! - Reply to this comment
- 70 million barrells is NOTHING, this is just a ploy by the dems to deflect from the fact they have refused to allow drilling for the last thirty years. The headline should The democrats trick to fool public thwarted by Republicans. I''m sure the sheep will believe the big bad republicans did it again. LOL! Nothing like the daily propoghanda spewed by leftwing central!

- When was the last time you saw what was left of the paycheck of any European wage earner. Let''''''''s talk 60% or greater tax burden for all the "free" services the government "provides". It costs more than you can ever believe. Here''''''''s your air fare and your visa. Head into the morning sun and you''''''''ll find your nirvana over there.

Since your boy has destroyed the dollar''s value, European''s are actually better off even with the excess taxes. FYI Income tax in Europe varies widely - the lowest (as of 2005) is Switzerland at 29%, the highest is Belgium at 55%. The US is 28%. - Reply to this comment
- Given the fact with current technology we can now drill from a single platform 50 times as large a foot print as we could just twenty years ago, you might wish to go back and verify some of your 30 year old Democrat Party greenie weenie talking points.

But, as tru_america1 posts, it still takes minimum 3 years just to build a new oil platform and another 1-2 years to commission and ramp up production. That is if they find oil the first time. Then we only have 2% of the world''s oil reserves which would not last long. I''m glad to see Boehner from OH is leading the fight on this - he''s got a whole bunch of beach tourism loss to worry about in Columbus. - Reply to this comment
- The Republicans were right to block this. Less expensive gasoline only continues our usage of it.
T. Boone Pickens and Al Gore have been showing us a picture of what the future holds for transportation. Pickens is even willing to use his own money to bring about change.
Everything I own runs on electric except for my car.
When the price of gasoline went over $ 3.00 per gallon the country that we needed to be talking with was Canada. Most of our oil is imported from there. Granted it would be like talking to the McKenzie Brothers %u2013 eh? So far these hosers are flying under the radar regarding high oil prices. - Reply to this comment

- Where''s the media coverage?
Why are Dems leaving town without a vote on offshore drilling?
Is there any unbiased media coverage left in America?
Or have they all sold out? Repulsive libs. - Reply to this comment
- Quoting some poster here: "AMERICA lets send the Europeans a Message and show them we dont Vote for who they want. Were not going to turn into a Socialist Country like theres. America has stronger freedoms than any of those Euro Block Countries.
VOTE FOR MCCAIN AND TELL EUROPE WE SAY NO TO SOCIALIST!! "
hahahah. You''re as clueless as the one you''re voting for, not knowing anything about foreign countries. The European economy has well overcome America''s the past 10 years, and it will continue to do so. Only thing we can truly do is trail Europe and learn from their response to economical setbacks. Look at their economy, they have the same problems as us yet their economy is much more resilient.
Which you probably have no clue of, as you come off as an uneducated 15 year old redneck. - Reply to this comment

- It is simple... all land owned by the US should be open to responsible exploration to meet the needs of our country and such exploration should not be held hostage by anyone for any reason whatsoever.

- Democrats said the release from the oil reserve could provide relief at the pump within two weeks,
But the Republicans were once again able to defeat the bill.
As debate began, the White House threatened a veto. "Rather than drawing down a strategic reserve intended to protect our nation''s energy security from a severe supply disruption, Congress should pass legislation to increase domestic oil supply," the White House said in a statement.

Our President said Americans were addicted to oil, so it sounds like they are saying that they need to do whatever they can to continue to feed that addiction?
If we were alcoholics, I guess they would make sure we all had a steady supply of whiskey? - Reply to this comment
- Dems are FEEBLE. Do we really want them running the country?
This fiasco is just really, really WEAK.
On the other hand, maybe the Dems are terrorist wanna-bes. Pull out of Iraq. Hold our energy hostage.
Complicated people, these Dems. - Reply to this comment
