Future of the B-52

The Air Force intends to keep the B-52 in service until at least 2040, an unprecedented length of service for a military aircraft.[5][66] B-52s are periodically refurbished at the USAF maintenance depots such as Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

Boeing suggested re-engining the B-52H fleet with the Rolls-Royce RB211 534E-4. This would involve replacing the eight Pratt & Whitney TF33s (total thrust 8 W 17,000 lb) with four RB211s (total thrust 4 W 37,400lb). The RR engines will increase the range and payload of the fleet and reduce fuel consumption. However, the cost of the project would be significant. Procurement would cost approximately US$2.56 billion (US$36 million W 71 aircraft).

With the sophistication of the aircraft and everything associated, why is it we can''''t find the airmen/officers that are missing?

The human body is so small compared to anything else that it is very hard to see in water, ever with bright colors on the person. We just have to pray that they will be found alive.

Republic1776, you skimmed the article. The B-2 is 1.4B not the B-52.

Too bad auto workers dug their own holes years ago to make $30.00 an hour so I can pay $30,000 for a car. Wish I could make $30.00 an hour being laid off. Time for you to face reality like the rest of us have done.

I was in the USAF, worked for the US NAVY, and worked for the USAF for over 30 years. I had dealings with the service people all of that time. These men and women are some of the most Patriotic people on the face of this Earth. When the call comes they will do anything and everything to protect this Great Country.

The B-52 is one of the best planes ever to be put in the Air. It is one of those things that come along once in a life time. It has proven itself time and time again.

Someone mentioned the SR-71. It is and was a high altitude plane. To stand in front of one of these planes and look at the way it is put together is amazing. I can''t say how high it would fly. But if one was over the Canadian Border he would start letting down to land at Las Vegas..
