What do you suggest the big oil companies do? For the most part the oil companies are pretty responsible firms. But they are fortunate that they are able to produce an average barrel of oil for $50/bbl while the small mom and pop oil companies produce for $80/bbl. You want big oil to lower their gas prices by $1/ gallon and put all the small firms out of business? Its pure supply and demand, not big oil.

It is NOT the quantity of oil and gasoline. If it were, there would be lines at gas stations.

timdgrim,

And your point is? Don''t invest in the future? If it isn''t brought to market in (more like 5-10 years) and we have $20/gallon gas - better it be $10/gallon and we have a new source of energy available until we can get gasoline-free cars into the mass market. Bush may have gray matter between his ears at times but this is the right thing to do for our national security and national economy.

Great! This will hit the market in about 2017..when, gas will be about $10 to $12 a gallon. If you want to drill, then drill a hole in Bush''s head and see if there is any brain matter in there.

Big oil, Big oil, Big oil, Big oil - how is it any of you expect to get to work every day? How are you going to get your kids to grandmas? How are you going to get to the grocery store? How are you going to get to the restaurants, the concert arenas, the libraries, the meetings and conventions? Big oil brings it to us. Big oil employs over 1 million Americans. Big oil is fortunate enough to be able to produce a barrel of oil for $15/bbl but the market makes them sell it for $145. Sure, they could reduce the price of gas $1/gallon but then what happens to the smaller oil companies that can only produce that same barrel for $80/bbl? There is a lot more to this than just Big oil. Its like global warming, when the **** hits the fan, blame Bush, Big oil and global warming. Nevermind there are economics and global geo-politics at play, too. Its all Bush''s fault.

So what you are saying is freedom doesn''''t have a price. Freedom should be free. So the next time we start a war we should tell our enemies not to kill our troops because then protecting our freedom won''''t be free then. Look I hate war, I hate when lives are lost, I hate when we use a lot of money but hey nobody said freedom wasn''''t cheap and easy. Look I''''m not happy about the way this war has been going but I am happy someone over there in Iraq is fighting to protect my freedom and the freedom of this country. If your not happy Canada is your best bet to live at.

Agree 100% - seeing Bush and Cheney making license plates would be poetic justice.

Instead, the US Governement will pay him 1.2 million a year for his presidential pension. God, imagine that - a million plus per year for *** up every single thing you touched for 8 years; for spending an additional 5 TRILLION dollars of debt; for sending 4000 brave Americans (unlike the draft dodging Cheney and Bush) and perhaps a million or more Iraqis to their deaths. Takes the term "Pay for Performance" to a new level!
