no, no, according to the Bible, which Catholics do follow, a sin is a sin. there are none less than others. and this is irrelevant anyway. a child is dead, and a mother and father are in pain tonight. may all of your gods/Gods bless this family.

I would just like to point out a couple of things to all of you who are up in arms against this man.

Jacques has not been convicted for anything related to his nieces disappearance or death. There is a certain phrase related to our justice system that I''m sure most of you are aware of--innocent until proven guilty. A news article proves nothing about guilt or innocence, especially a biased article like this one.

For those of you advocating death penalty for child rape, other than the fact that it''s unconstitutional, consider the reason most relevant to the victims: if child rape and murder have the exact same punishment, the murder of a victim of child rape bears no additional consequences but it does have benefits for the perpetrator.

Lastly, to those of you advocating the death of whomever is convicted of this crime via in-prison-murder, do you really want to encourage vigilante justice in our society? Think of the harm to society if we allow vigilantism.

I believe in the death penalty, you do not. I respect your right to your opinion. We have different views, but i think we both want what is best for the people of America.

gmond:

society DOES know this, law enforcement knows this, history speaks well of this, psychiatrists know this, it is not a secret. i wish i knew why our laws haven''t changed to reflect this and save our children.

I don''t believe in the death penalty as it only creates martyrs out of the condemned, but life in prison without the possibility of parole for crimes of this nature should be mandatory, whether murder is involved or not. How long will it take for society to accept the fact that a sexual predator cannot and will not ever change?

here here on the fervan postings, sheeeeesh. the problem is impulse control on the part of the offenders, NOT the marital status of the victim''s parents! what a jackhole!

It is hard to conceive the mother couldn''t have known about the criminal history of these two men, but anything is possible. I hope they receive the justice they deserve. I hope the gilr is now at peace. With the world the way it is, perhaps she is actually the lucky one.

fervan,

calling my way of thinking as ''my problem'' is exactly why folks like you cannot have intellectual conversations. you can choose to target families who have experienced divorces, or you can choose to focus on the actual problem here. and, at the same time, you CAN have a conversation, with disagreement, without insulting anyone. Give it a shot.

wellll...when crimes occur with no justice, the people see the iniquity...when the people get tired of the law not doing what they expect and pay for...they do things like form their own little "social clubs"...google "the baldknobbers"...they were good upstanding citizens that applied the law where the law was lacking...maybe the screwballz on the supreme court will get off their perverse arses once the people start appliying their own and swift justice!
