On t.v. everybody gets cured within an hour by a bunch of beautiful, young, wealthy, and wise doctors and nurses. I guess reality is dominated by ugly self centered people would rather just walk away and let you die. So, this is health care in America.

Never collapse during the staff lunch hour, a training session, the Christmas party or when they''re passing around the weed.

an elitist moron at that. Posted by OzarkBard

Health care is NOT an entitlement. Health insurance is expensive for everyone. Most people have to budget to afford it, but afford it we do. Others choose to be a social leech and use their money for pay-per-view and drugs.

This is the exact kind of situation described in the movie "Sicko."

When we value human life according to the ability to pay for quality health care instead of providing for all, we all suffer a devaluation.

We need to take drastic steps to take the parasitic insurance companies out of the business of profiting on the misery of others. But I dont suppose that''ll happen with our leaders rolling in insurance payolla.

Many countries in the world value all of their citizens and recognize them individually by providing quality health care for them.

Just like Hillary used to, Obama used to talk about affordable health care, now he speaks of affordable health insurance. Just another set of bought and paid for politicians.

In the US, health care is about making money, not caring for people. Until we the people demand better, expect worse.

24 hours waiting in the waiting room?

arealredneck -

Well, you certainly don''t lie about your screenname.

As to your ignorant comment, if you actually view the NYC video (take of your Klan hood first), you will see that both the security guard and doctor who looked and did NOTHING are both WHITE.

You know, the two people that probably should have done something before anyone else? So I fail to see how your affirmative action comment is valid...

Seriously - can people be this ignorant?

How dare they! Who do they think they are? Taking care of paying patients before the ''deadbeats''! I guess she got what she didn''t pay for.

I bet an illegal immigrant would have been seen and treated immediately.

Okay, perhaps that was a bit harsh. But I still believe it.

A review of how Affirmative Action played a part in hiring of these obviously indifferent and incompetent hospital staff visible in the video will pretty much explain this tragedy. Also, the fired individuals will undouptedly register a complaint with the NAACP who will waste no time tripping all over their shoe strings filing law suits for discrimination on their behalf. And, then we can stare at Al Sharpton on TV defending these people.

She would have gotten much better care with a free national health care system. I can''''t wait for Obama.

You want "free" national healthcare with a screen name of pay as you go? Thats kind of ironic. I thought the system currently in place was more pay as you go? Maybe you should change your screen name to free4all. (Just a suggestion)

This isn''t a race issue - it is a society issue - people don''t need insurance to be seen at an emergency room - hospitals are required by law to treat everyone that comes into an ER.

"People on a lower income do not always need insurance because sometimes they can get free medical care. The major hospital in my area will grant free or discounted healthcare to any family making less than $64,000 a year. If you make over $64,000 I would think you would be able to prioritize your life to find some sort of medical coverage. Now I recognize this is not a workable situation for all and there should be help available for those that fall into the cracks, but everyone does not fall into those cracks. We try to widen the cracks to make it a larger issue.

Again, I agree that something needs to be done to fix it, but if you are expecting Bush, McCain, Obama, Hillary or any other elected official to fix it, I think you should check into a hospital because you''''re crazy."

Are you making the argument that it''s a bad idea to look to the government for healthcare because healthcare is already provided by the government?

Not only is the ER staff at fault here - what were all the people sitting in the waiting room doing? Ahh yes - They were being society and didn''t want to get involved!

It''s stupid and insulting to make race an issue in terms of the respondents at the scene, but I''m just tired of the incredible idiocy of internet commentary in general, so in I leap:

THANKS FOR POINTING THAT OUT...AND DID YOU NOTICED THAT THEY WERE THE ONLY ONE THEY ACTULLY DID SOMETHING.... NON WHITES WERE JUST IGNORING

Anything anybody did was done AFTER she was dead. Your desperation is sickening.

I think this is a systemic problem as nobody wants to pay for healthcare until it is too late. The government don''t want to pay for preventive and maintaince care, but we will pay for it later due to sickness and ER visits. Talking about penny wise but pound foolish.

ChatarPatar - you misunderstood. The security guard and doctor were both white and did NOTHING. I was just telling off some idiot who was trying to say that it was all black people in the room.

I used to live in Harbor City, Ca, & there were a few times I had to go to harbor-UCLA hospital for extreme pain in my feet due to gout attacks. I entered at ~ 11:00pm & was seen & finally released by ~ 7:00am the next morning. That is not unusual asthe trama centers & whatever hospital there is is going to be "full-up" with patients all waiting to be seen for something. It''s just the nature of the beast, really, I had no med coverage & was broke-poor, but at least I DID eventually get helped!..I pity those that died while waiting, but again, i waited a day & that is just how the overcrowding takes effect.

Does anyone but me think that this
****
Both sides in the dispute went before a federal judge Tuesday to jointly file papers in which the hospital system agreed to a series of reforms. Under the agreement, patients in the waiting room will now be checked every 15 minutes.
****

is a meaningless ''agreement'' given that this

****
One notation said that at 6 a.m., she was "awake, up and about" and had just used the restroom. Another said that at 6:20 a.m., she was sitting quietly in the waiting room, and had a normal blood pressure. During both of those times, Green was either in her death throes or already dead.
****

shows that they won''t actually have to do the check to say that they did?
If it weren''t for the video no one could dispute what they wrote down .. after all they are *professionals* aren''t they?

This shameful tragedy again underscores how insensitive and indifferent people are towards helping and aiding others and how selfishness is the norm rather than the exception. Personal indulgence and entitlement has numbed people from humanity and morality.
