Regarding publicity, this missing child is huge news in a small state such as VT. The AP got ahold of the news - key word here was that My Space and the internet was involved. Believe me, as a life long VT resident, any child of any race missing or involved in an untimely death makes the headlines here and What the national news carries is a matter of national interest such as the new world of the internet predators.

Think about what you say before we say it''s racial bias in reporting. That''s nuts!! And if you do say it, get your facts straight before you run your mouth.

Why are people bringing up the color of this missing girl? The ones that complain about the color of a victim are usually the bigest racists.

I''m very frustrated with the fact that the uncle is a registered *** offender and yet was allowed by her family (the ones who should be protecting her) to be alone with the niece. I don''t care if there is a blood relation or not. The idea that her parents wouldn''t do all they could do to protect their daughter from a KNOWN *** offender or even online predators says a lot about her family. Men like the uncle are not allowed to work in any place that has kids - so why do the parents trust him so much? He likely told a sob story about how he was framed. But anyone stupid enough to leave their young daughter with a man who was convicted of kidnapping and sexual abuse has got their priorities messed up. There''s forgiveness and then there is stupidity. You can make up your own mind about which played the biggest role in this fiasco. But my money is on "stupidity".

My question is this: If you know your brother is a conviceted *** offender, why would you even let a child (neice or nephew) anywhere near the man! People are way too trusting...good grief!

MegamanX1:

I''m not unsympathetic. I agree that sexual crimes against young blacks don''t get the lengthy coverage that some of the more sensational crimes against attractive white girls do. (You won''t see it for overweight, homely girls of any color.) Bringing it to the attention of the media and the public is a good thing.

However, I''m not sure that the continual coverage is necessarily a good thing. Notoreity is what some of these predators are seeking. Weeks of publicity may encourage them to strike again...to keep in the public eye. I would like to see less sensationalism and more reporting, rather than turning all such crimes into a media circus.

The Atlanta child murders were a long time ago, Cody. (1985) The people posting here aren''''t all older-than-dirt folks like you and me.

That''s pretty bad (and also makes my point for me) if you have to go back two decades to 1985 to find a story....the cases I gave you were all within the last couple of years. Holloway was really recent....

Put pedophiles in prision for life without the possibility of parole.

Please think about what you are saying. Should people be imprisoned for their thoughts, or for their actual crimes? If the latter, should consensual *** between an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old get life? That''s what some registered *** offenders were convicted of.

"You have got to be kidding me. Major national news. Bunch of little black boys were murdered. Google it. Google all of them. You don''''t see white people going look another black kid is missing when they make the news."

hey RingaDing3 - vt has one of lowest crime rates in the country. can u say that about the state u live in? but just because it has low crime rate does not mean u should let your children go unsupervised or drop them off at the local cumby''s to meet whoever to go out of state with, even if it''s only 40 minutes drive to the supposed place they are going. a parent has to be insane to be trusting this day & age. & as for letting her be in the hands of her pedophile uncle? mom needs to have her head examined. the uncle is involved somehow. how else would he have been able to find and identify the clothing near the floating bridge. and if u notice that info is not here @ cbs.com, it''s because it''s not.

This is the attitude that Media has... Ah they''re not as important as the little missing white girl...Not important enough to pre-empt our story on paris hilton''s or lidsay lohan latest arrest....sick.

"flreason, I see you now believe prayer is the only way to protect children from harmful individuals (that always happen to be liberal)."
Posted by faith_in_W

"..now believe," as if I suddenly got religion? No--I was quoting you. Prayer is always a good idea, but it isn''t a guarantee. Of the people who I personally know who were sexually molested as children, one was by a Catholic priest, two (brother and sister) by an elder in the fundmentalist Christian church to which their family belonged, and one by her politically conservative father.

Besides prayer, my own preferance for protecting my children was educating them, being present at school and sports activities, and listening to them. I don''t believe in hitting children.

I''m happy to say that my children have grown into responsible adults, despite the influence of their liberal mother. In fact, my married daughter, who was typically rebellious in her teens, now says that she will raise her children the same way she was raised. LOL

u need to stop focusing on the skin color. she''s still missing. do u not even care that she could be dead? do u not even care that her uncle could have done it? u guys are all on religion and race and all that garbage. what happened to brooke is not about race. it''s not about religion. it''s not about politics. it''s about some sicko pedophile who took her & did lord knows what to or with her. it''s about finding her dead or alive so the family has closure in some form or another.

Boycott everything to do with VERMONT! They don''t protect their own children from preverts and pedophiles! Too many deviates in Vermont, don''t visit or buy anything from Vermont.

i said it yesterday & i''''ll say it again today. this is NOT about race. it''''s about a missing child. one who now may possibly be the victim of her pedophile uncle & may very well be dead somewhere. the local news last nite even said that the uncle was the one to "find" her article of clothing near the floating bridge (he probably planted it there to throw off the police). so it looks like he probably did have a hand in her disappearance. this news site does not have all the facts posted here so people from outside vt aren''''t getting the whole story. so stop putting race into this. concentrate your efforts on finding her. even if she''''s not alive she deserves to be found.

Absolutely. First, there is a higher murder rate for white children then black children, so you should expect mor media coverage. There was plenty of media coverage around the Atlanta Child Murders, Chioma Gray Alicia Wilbourne and several others. I do have a problem with DragonWagon going "let''''s go find whitey". What the H e l l is that all about?

I''ve never even heard of The Atlanta Child Murders, Chioma Gray, or Alicia Wilbourne so obviously they didn''t get THAT much coverage...And I''m not just talking about local coverage I''m talking about NATIONAL. This girl is all the way in Vermont and she''s getting heavy coverage out here in California. No minority missing child would get that. And there are plenty black children being abducted. You know where they go? They are up on a little "Have you seen me?" sign next to 12 other missing black and mexican kids posted inside a walmart for everyone to ignore as they shop for detergent.....

Hardly national news coverage....
