There was a break down in the penal system, a break down in procedures and in the prison process. This crime should have technically been impossible. Someone didn''t do their job, conduct a proper roll call, head count. No prisoner should have been unaccounted for and not in their cell after lights out! I agree the racer is irrelervant in a crime like this. it didn''t mention what the race of the victim was. As for sparpton and jackson. They are one of the biggest problems in race issues today. Since you are Canadian and i have a great respect for Canadians, you probably have not been taught much about our history. Jefferson was for the second amemdment to keep the govt from becoming a dictatorship and taking control of the people. Our constitution says if our govt is not governing us properly, not only do we have the right but the obligation to overthrow it and replace it with a govt that does. You are against gun ownership. I am for. In this country it has shown over and over gun control laws do nothing to inhibit the criminals. They do not obey laws. We cannot expect the police to be there to protect us every time. We have to have the right to protect ourselves. I am for certain gun control laws. It was just proven in Wash D.C. that gun control doesn''t work. Every where a citizen is allwed to have a weapon crimes have been drastically reduced.

The good news is the law clearly states whne a felony such as rape is committed during the commission of a crime, this being murder, he will be eligible for the death penalty. My question is why was she working alone ? Even a male officer shouyld not be alone in these circumstances.

How ironic for this to follow the supreme courts wrong ruling that death is not an appropriate punishment for rape. This clearly underscores how wrong they are. If they had executed this waste of space in 1993, this lady would likely be alive and we would have saved hundreds of thousands of tax payers dollars.
Swift justice, that is the key. His death would ensure that he would never do this again. I agree with the dissent, that rape of a child (anyone really) is especially heinous and deserves death.
