Although 78% of the buyers are white, that is because there are so many whites. If you look at who buys by color, you will see: 58% of Black youth buy rap music, while only 45% of hispanic youth buy rap music and only 23% of white youth buy rap music.

l00ker,

I have no idea. I don''t listen to Imus. I''d rather Imus say what he wants to say and somebody fix the inner city public schools. That would be my preference.

It''s called record sales. Teenage WHITE guys are the main buyers of rap cd''s. Look something up and you would know. What, you thought it was only black people buying rap??? Oh, sorry to disappoint you...

How do you know blacks (as it seems we are a homogeneous group thinking via a central processing unit) do not speak out against gratuitous rap music? I like some rap music, not all of it. I guess it is in the same way that someone might like heavy metal but not all forms of it (like the satanic form).

Actually part of the problem I''m seeing is that black people believe they are part of homogeneous group. For years people have been working to teach that you can''t judge someone by his/her skin color. Yet when 90% of blacks voted, they voted for Obama. That''s not enough to prove that they all see themselves as a homogeneous group. But when 80% of those black people polled said they voted for him because of his color and they didn''t really know how he stood on the issues, there is a problem.

Obama could be the super candidate. I think he''s just another man with a message. I''ve been disappointed in our last 2 presidents, I don''t see anything in either of these two candidates that gives me hope.

But to vote for someone just because he looks like you? Haven''t you gone backwards?

l00ker,

Whites say blacks see racism even when it doesn''''t exist.

Blacks say whites don''''t see racism even when it is blatant.

They are both right.

Imus is in the same entertainment category as LameButt Limbaugh and Stern, yet the latter two have other ways in saying things that nicks the skin; besides, what affect does Imus'' remarks have on the overall plight of the black community. Such as high teen pregnancy, high unemployment, high school drop out rates, high black prison population, high black on black murders, etc. Where does Imus fit into that?

I am amazed that some Black people can complain about a statement like this one. At this point, whatever Imus says will be misinturpeted. Maybe the Black people who are complaining should listen to some of the degrading and filthy lyrics their own race uses in songs they sing (which are brodcast on many, many stations) all over the country. I recently watched a program where a Black woman was convicted by a "mixed" jury of murdering her Black husband. After 3 months, the judge decided that the jury had not been racially mixed enough, and gave her another trial with the majority of the jury being Black. She was then found innocent. Where''s the fairness there? We all live in one country together and race shouldn''t enter into any of it. Blacks, whites, asian, hispanic, indians are all treated wrong at some point, but why does it become such an issue when it is a black person? Life is just too short to sweat all the small stuff. If you don''t like what you are seeing or hearing on the radio/tv, you live in America where you have the freedom to change the station or turn it off. Let''s worry about the real stuff like terrorism, global warming and our military that are putting their lives on the line every day to insure we keep that freedom. Our soldiers are of all different races and they work together, fight together, and morn the losses of their friends together.

I listened to the entire exchange and there''s NO way he was defending him or being sarcastic. It was pure 100% racist! He needs to go now!

Considering what Iums has said in the past, it''s understandable that some people would not immediately "get" that he was being sarcastic. I''m not sure what his real opinion is. Given his record, saying "There you go" and expecting people to understand what he didn''t immediately explain was ill-advised.

U2PlayNice,

If you support freedom of speech, I guess you also supported and defended Rev. Wright? It''''s very easy to defend "freedom" when you don''''t think the speech is applying to you. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wright can say anything he wants to, just like I can say anything I want to. However, I only support his right to express his opinion. And I won''t support a candidate who supports that opinion.

There are many in the black community who cry racism as a way to seek refuge from their own personal failures, especially after being caught and punished for the crimes that they themselves have committed.

I say, if 78% of the people buying the records are not black and a vast majority of those who control it (record labels) are not black, then the responsibility is not only with black people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted by whatithink

But of course 78% of the people who buy it are not black. If only black people bought it, it wouldn''t exist. Because only about 12% of America is black. However, if you look at the percentage of blacks who buy it verses the percentage of whites who buy it, your numbers look completely different.

I agree. I was not offended by Imus''s remarks until I came here and saw ALL black people are getting hysterical about it. (sarcasm) Funny, I couldn''t care less. I find the whole thing a bit silly to tell you the truth.
