A Nation of laws, with a Constitution firmly anchored as its foundation - was what we were before bush & henchmen perverted their power.

the dangerous and reckless simplicity of reacting like a dictatorship, bypassing all our safeguards meant to protect the Nation and its people, has left us less secure.

the over-reaction of this administration has shown its lack of faith in our institutions. their efforts to conceal, even more, shows their willingness to committ crime, while excusing themselves by invoking patriotism, or "higher" ideological objectives.

at the root lies the perversion of power for ideological goals by a small group of people.

In the American language its called treason.

Re: "For example, when Bush secretly imprisons an American citizen he doesn''t like he can simply say that they are an Afghani national caught on the battlefield of Iraq, even if they were actually a loyal citizen living in Boston who was illegally abducted at the mall while shopping."

Thanks for pointing that out, SearingTruth.

I don''t think that most Americans realize this.

Hopefully, the recent Supreme Court ruling has put an end to this.

Apparently most of our legislators, both Republican and Democrat, who passed the Military Commissions Act, did not see the value in preserving this fundamental element of any free society.

Well the fascistic Bush regime has undoubtedly used fear to further their own criminal goals, but every non-fascist American who respects the Constitution should be outraged about their many heinous crimes, including torture, so what are you trying to say?

Your comment is vague, jumbled, and contradictory.

There are people who are looking to capitalize on the fact that Americans in general have not been happy with the Bush Administration and its choices. They are trying to instigate fear and outrage amongst our citizens. Let''s try not to allow this to happen.

bluestardad: "MY GOD WHEN WILL AMERICA DEMAND WAR CRIMES TRIALS ON THESE CRIMINALS?"

When indeed? when will all this reversal end: when what passes for leadership is betrayal, what passes for patriotism is treason, and so many stand feebly by and watch the great American secret be stolen from us while we watch, unaware all we have to do is say STOP to end it.

FeelFree4U, The point was that some of these other companies engage in blood-spilling activities in other parts of the world as well, eg west Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America. PS Mobil does not carry an e. You need to get our of your room more and look around.

RE: "Probably fewer than the British owned BP, the British-Dutch Shell, the Venezuelan Citgo, the Russian oil company and some of the other oil companies owned by dictators around the world."

I don''t think so. Exxon-Mobile appears to be the unchallenged King of the oily war profiteers. The first two that you mentioned certainly have their share of Iraqi blood on their hands, but Russia and Venezuela were opposed to the lie based and criminal invasion of Iraq, so they did not actively seek to profit from it.

"I wonder how many people have been tortured, so that blood-drenched war profiteering oil pirates like Exxon-Mobile could rake in record profits?"

RE: "His request was based in part on a legal review by Air Force Lt. Col. Diane Beaver, a lawyer assigned to the task force running the Cuban prison."

If this attorney receives a couple of promotions, she will be Major Beaver.

If she sided with the regime on these torture techniques, them she should join the rest of the regime before a war crimes tribunal, and should be demoted to Private Beaver.

SgtRDS-E4, Just in case you didn''t make it to bed yet, a quick history lesson. The Germany Hitler took over had a weak Socialist government, unable to do anything about the economy and national sovereignty. This is the type of America some from the left would like to see. Hitler filled a void. PS the Communists took over in Russia from another weak Socialist government.

It''s late and I''m off to bed. Keep your eyes open!

IT can happen here, but not until you start believing that it can''t.

Night.

But that does NOT change the fact that we must be ever vigilant here! Being too secure in the idea that it can''t happen here is the number one reason why it CAN! Very few people who supported the Nazis in 1936 or 1938 foresaw what was coming.

But who are these murderous people who will draw blood to perform the coup?

I only thought the owners of the twin towers and a few well placed officials in the city were responsible for that tragedy.

Posted by Mr_Totten at 02:08 AM : Jun 17, 2008

The people that will draw the blood this fall had nothing to do with 9-11. To them that was a gift. It gave them an excuse to move in the direction they have in trying to force democracy on the Middle_east and to try to take permanent control of the US. They were are as surprised as anyone that it happened in the sense that it was the "Pearl Harbor" type event they were hoping for.

Our job is to make sure they don''t get away with it.
