This article contains all the usual government officials making all the usual misrepresentations of marijuana and the majority of the public who want it decriminalized. First of all, nobody claims it is "harmless", just that, like cigarettes, it is a choice consenting adults have the right to make. Also, nobody is advocating that teenagers be allowed to use it even if it were legalized. Tobacco is illegal for teens, and marijuana would be also.

Marijuana is a far less dangerous choice to be allowing people to make than alcohol, which is responsible for the rash of domestic violence and mayhem that breaks out every weekend in this country. If any substantial number of drinkers became pot smokers, the levels of domestic violence would noticeably decline, as would the traffic deaths. You can still drive properly while high, a huge point.

As for potency, the tobacco industry ramped up the potency of their product from the ''50''s through the ''70''s, with all the attendant health problems and addiction. We know from historical evidence that older, more natural forms of tobacco and processing were much safer; why not use their powers over this regulated product and force tobacco companies to make less dangerous cigarettes?

The demonization of marijuana has its roots in irrational puritanical law enforcement mentalities, but the people have a fundamental right to choose to smoke it if they want to...

So that''''s what Bush has been smoking.

No, he''s been on "coke". If he''d been on weed, we wouldn''t be in a illegal war. He''d just want to blowsmoke rings, instead of blowing up countries.

Don''t mention it,,NAUcoming4u

Smoking pot is a very dirty and unhealthy way to consume a lightweight and mostly ineffective painkiller. If a person is inflicted with cancer, AIDS or is really in pain. They should stay away from smoking pot because all the poisons in pot smoke will seriously challenge a sick persons immune system plus pot is a very weak pain killer.

Let''s not forget that McCain''s family fortune (through his wife) is heavily tied to the pushing of alcohol. Why would he want a change in the status quo?

Sorry about your Grandma, BTW.

..........

Thank you slim.

And thank you omega39. I will suggest Marinol to both her and her doctor.

The "real thing" may be what she needs, ultimately. Her appetite is also suffering, mostly because of the pain preventing her from getting up and getting something to eat. But apparently swallowing is also painful!

I will keep you all posted. Thanks again.

Any suggestions on how I can convince her otherwise?

(We live in the San Francisco Bay Area... very accessible to canibus clubs).

You could try and get her a prescription for Marinol, if that doesn''t work for her, it should be easier to try and transition her into the real thing.

Tell her about the egg study, and that if you consumed too many eggs,,you''d die of cholesrtol. They were wrong about that. And now they wrong about weed, too.

The drunks in the White House view unregulated cigarettes as harmless, as does John McCain, while they are trying to reclassify marijuana into a narcotic. Juan McCain is simply not fit to command the USA. He is a corporate sellout high on his own venomous lies.

Yes, but sadly, the "sovereignty" of the states is limited... in other words...

...if the laws passed by the states are in approval by the Feds, then there is "sovereignty". Unfortunately, Federal law trumps state laws.

Case and point: California passing a tougher emissions standard for automakers selling cars in that state. The EPA still has this law held up in the courts!

And how did the USSC determine this, by invoking the interstate commerce clause. Jeez, talk about legislating from the bench.

Several states have passed medical marijuana laws and by a wide margin. I have no doubts that people like singinrick would oppose it (even though we are told to use the plants and the animals), but at the very least the libertarian wing of the Republican party has some sense when it comes to this issue.

Guess it''s better in the Pharmaceutical Companies eyes and government eyes that we load our bodies with man made chemicals that they make money from-forget the hellish side effects on our bodies and minds- and give up natural drugs.

Not me!! I say "GO GREEN, AMERICA." There are no fluorocarbons going into the air from manufacturing pot, it''s not made of plastic, it does return to the earth in natural form, it could make money if it is handled correctly, it doesn''t fill up the landfills with useless chemicals. If it''s ecologically correct, then why not make it legal. We are trying to save the environment and this is totally natural, so what''s the problem???? Some butthead has decided it''s illegal and there is no basis for that ruling!!!

Support GOING GREEN, AMERICA!!!!

It''''s amazing how Democrat and Republican, Conservative and Liberal can all come to a consensus on how ridiculous Marijuana criminalization truly is. It kind of shows you how much power we really have in our own government.

...you just have to pay for it!

(example: Pharmaceutical companies ensure that marijuana use remains illegal from the federal level).

But thats the problem,,my stimulus check won''t cover it. Now thats a stimulus we all could use. LOL
