Dr. Carroll: Yes. I remember. Just a young boy... under the influence of drugs... who killed his entire family with an axe.

Same Old story that holds no current facts. When will they focus on the real killers of our kids. It is been proven over and over by unbiased research that Marijuana is not addictive and it does not lead to other forms of drugs. I guess America should focus on all the pain killers they are taking from there loving doctors and get research on how many people die each year from those. There has never been a single overdose from Marijuana so tell me what is safer.

And for all those who say that I am just a pot smoker??? Don''t do it, never have, but I have seen dying people who use it and seen the helping effects of it. Are these moral people so moral that they would allow people to suffer because they are paranoid of change?

Okay, first off the whole "gateway drug" thing only has credence because marijuana has been shoved into the same class as illicit drugs.

Furthermore, their statistics come from samples such as rehab programs where typically 70%+ of the addicts used marijuana first before moving on to heroin. This is the main argument for marijuana being considered a gateway drug.

By that same rationale I''m willing to bet 100% of all the heroin users surveyed drank water at some time in there life, therefore water is also a "gateway drug" (when it''s put that way it sounds pretty ridiculous doesn''t it?).

Thirdly, this just gives more justification to over crowding jails and spending even more money housing non-violent offenders arrested for marijuana (minority control anyone?). And of course since you''re in jail and lose your house, job, and most of your life by the time you get out, we can all point and say "See? Pot''s bad for you!"

Oh yeah...how many deaths were attributed to marijuana last year? How about alcohol? Bet there''s a HUGE discrepancy there.

Lastly, I would like to ask that the government please stop wasting our money investigating a fairly harmless drug that''s already been illegal close to a hundred years now and focus on the pharmaceutical drugs with FDA approval that are killing people and causing a wide range of adverse side effects that causes much more serious health afflictions that the deadly weed...wait that wouldn''t work for the lobbyist would it?

cornbiker, now that is funny....everyone on here should know if you ingest, or smoke something that will alter your way of thinking is not good for you in the long run. I can see in moderation where pot is beneficial to those who have to deal with pain caused by cancer (also helps with the appetite from Chemo and radiation treatments). And everyone should know that getting behind the wheel of a car or working around machinery can be dangerous. All in all, we as humans have an internal need to stimulate ourselves with something. Pot is and always be the winner above everything else.

You guys just don''t get it. gopsoccermom doesn''t do natural. Her drug of choice is Mother''s Little Helper. Just because the government and the pharmaceutical companies say it''s ok, with her it means "All''s right in her world." That may explain why her posts are as goofy as they are. She has overdosed.

Smoking pot is a very dirty and unhealthy way to consume a lightweight and mostly ineffective painkiller. If a person is inflicted with cancer, AIDS or is really in pain. They should stay away from smoking pot because all the poisons in pot smoke will seriously challenge a sick persons immune system plus pot is a very weak pain killer.

clestes

You have it exactly right. The Government needs to Sell the growing rights, and then the manufactures need to package them like Cigarrets and the Government needs to tax the Poop out of them.

All you people who say Pot is a Gate Way Drug you got it WRONG ///// Alcohol is the Gate Way Drug if you ask most anybody they will say they got drunk before they did anyting else. ALCOHOL IS THE GATE WAY DRUG.

Lies, lies and more lies from the oligarchy.

"He cited the risk of psychological, cognitive and respiratory problems, and the potential for users to become dependent on drugs such as cocaine and heroin."

Just keep the misinformation coming so you can keep spending my tax dollars telling others everything you don''t want them to do. Now I get to pay for you to make legislation, and then enforce it, and then incarcerate people for it. America is an authoritarian country. To call it a free country is a downright lie.

gopsoccermom, please do enlighten US about your Southern Traditions and answer all of the questions below:

Republicons support unregulated cigarettes, the same toxin that kills millions worldwide annually. Is this because tobacco is a product of the Southern Confederate heritage, a culturally inbred part of the USA heaped in backward and destructive tradition? Why are the conservatives of the South, the most inbred culture on the face of the earth, so hell bent on destroying the lives of so many people?
