Why does religion have to be brought into every issue?
Posted by codymac4

This article was actually about the tragic loss of four young boy scouts. It is during death or when it has occured that many people turn to religion for answers. Why wouldn''t it be brought up in this situation?

Well, Codymac, I may be wrong, but I have raised two of them, and I assure you you would have a hard time convincing their professors, employers, and the recipients of their civic activities that I am wrong.

Cntrydan,

Parents who are able to actually home school children in all of the subjects whey need to be competent in our society are the exception, not the rule. Home schooling is very popular where I am at, and I can hardly believe that the parents can really set up an academic setting every day where their children focus on reading, math, English, history, earth science, physical science, computer competency, sports, music, and social interaction. It is also hard to believe that most of those parents really want to spend their days focused on schooling their children to be on par with their grade level peers. Parents who can and do, do it, are the exception. If you did it, I applaud you. However, I would never advocate it for the average parent.

Well thank God it was Scouts who have some skills. Many people would be less able to cope. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families!

A VERY difficult time. As far as your other "welfare" comments, you are simply ignorant of the facts. We starved to death to buy them books and lesson plans, and we gave up a mothers career and salary. We received nothing whatsoever from public schools, but you can bet we sure paid taxes for them. New computers, telescopes, and science labs don''t offset the miserable learning environment in many of our public schools. Kids don''t need that to learn. And they don''t need that to grow up to be responsible mature adults. In deference and respect to those Scouts, I will end my participation in this discussion here, so you may have the last word. But you are woefully misinformed.

Is that the best the global warming news cult can do for a video of being inside a tornado? You people should check through the video library a little more patiently.
Because, you know, if you think about it, real carefully, you''d realize it can''t be much of a tornado if some idiot storm-chaser can ride around in it. I guess we can''t expect people like you to know anything about weather, but there is lots of coverage of tornadoes destroying buildings and blowing cars around, if you need more propaganda.IT''S NOTHING NEW.

The plural of "hero" is "heroes," you journalistic hack. Jesus, how do you nimrods get jobs writing anything, when you can''t even spell? Doesn''t CBS have word processors with spell checkers?

Good job, scouts! You are indeed heroes and have made this country proud!
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the four scouts who were killed. May you find the strength to endure this terrible tragedy.

I hate continuing this discussion on a site that should be about the scouts. Just fo info, we were not driven by religion, did not include it in our schooling, and were not part of any zealot association. But we have come into contact with a number of HS kids, none of whom would provide supporting data for your position. In fact, just the opposite. My fuzzy memory tells me available statistics will not support your position, either. Yes, my kids are different in relating to "society". They don''t fit in. That''s the point. They are independant, they think for themselves, they are not influenced by peer pressure, and they do not follow the crowd, unless they choose to. Perhaps you experienced kids that were not seriously "HS''d", or HS''d for other than edcational reasons. That certainly happens. I can only touch on a few points here, but I assure you we would not hesitate and would recommend it to anyone serious about raising good kids.

I only regret I don''''t have any more children to "homeschool"

I read your posting about your success with home schooling, and I just want you to know that you are an exception where it comes to young people learning all they need to be successful by staying at home to learn it.

I work at a University and I have been involved with a and aware of young people who had a home schooling experience and were clueless that they weren''t on par with their peers until they tried to get competent scores on SAT and ACT exams. Those who come from home schooling who are on par with peers are the exception, and not the rule.

I have seen news conferences on this all day. These guys are all standing around complimenting each other on the great job they did responding and rescueing these kids. Including Governor Chet who must think that he looks good in a flight suit. Never mind that weather warnings were not issued so that these kids could have had more time.

These scouts were in the great outdoors, doing what they loved. They were Scouts, doing what they were trained to do. By all accounts, they performed with honor, which is what you would expect a Scout to do, and far more than we get from most of our elected leaders, CEO''s and other public figures. May those precious four be forever hiking in the high mountains of heaven. (Eagle, Father of 2 Eagles, and Scoutmaster of 18 Eagles.)

I have no idea how "homeschooling" got on this post, but having homeschooled two (male and female) I can tell you they missed a lot. They missed Cliques. They missed fighting. They missed arrogant incompetant teachers. They missed metal detectors, and guns, and dope and beer parties. They missed teenage pregnancy. They missed it all. Now in college in their 20''s, they are writers, musicians, serve on professor selection committees, bring home 4.0 GPA''s, and are well respected by adults and peers in the community, and known for helping others. One recently saved the life of a child literally dying in her mothers arms.

I only regret I don''t have any more children to "homeschool"

Im appalled at governor Culver*s lack of response to the global warming thunderstorms, tornadoes, and floods. We have no comprehensive strategy in place whatsoever, let alone a detailed plan of action to mitigate the effects of these storms and tornadoes, and mother earth continues to suffer while

Could God have sent this to punish the scouts for being so mean to ***?
Posted by koko98

I hope you are being sarcastic here. God doesn''t send tornados to punish and kill children. Some people''s minds are demeanted. Over on the site about the story of the death of the high school graduate who drowned on her trip to Cancun, someone there posted, "It must have been caused by sin." People who believe that must have miserable lives wondering when God is going to get them. Who among us has NO SIN?

The ONLY fix if there is any is POPULATION CONTROL, we keep cutting back, recycling, reducing and yet import MORE oil than ever in history. We have cars that get 300% more MPG than their 1960''s-1970''s counterparts.
The US population was 150 million in 1950 its over 305 million NOW, and THAT is the root of every problem we have from increased crime to shortages to climate issues from pollution.

ANything less than capping the birth rate to reverse growth will have NO effect at all on global climate change, NONE- because every new mouth born adds to the problem.
