good question--i wish i knew how dc schools are funded, but most of the easily accessed information is on blogs (which are notoriously skewed), and i really don''t have all morning to look for the information. let''s just say that dc public schools are a quagmire of special interests and mismanagement that are not reflective of public schools nationwide.

To just sane: Does this mean that all govenment contributes less than $2200 per year per student in DC schools?

well i seem to be a little late to the party, but whenever i see people throwing around facts and figures that don''t make sense, i get curious. according to the us census news, released april 1, 2008: "On average, the federal government contributed $974 per student enrolled in public school systems. Federal contributions ranged from $2,181 per student in Alaska to $627 in Nevada (See Table 11)." on average, a whopping $974!! and how much of that money do you suppose goes to support the mandated NCLB testing that does nothing to actually improve education? anyway, that''s all off the al franken topic--i just wanted to get the correct numbers out there for the record.

"This is a good lie almost could be believed but in fact it is still a lie. The amount that is given to each state for each student is around 3,500. " YOU''RE THE LIAR...Rush N E V E R stated that the Federal Government provided ALL school funding...NEVER stated that. The states provide about 85% of funding to pour down the rathole of government schools. And, as for the Demos holding conservatives and talk radio"accountable" IF they have more power, you will NEVER reactivate the "Fairness" Doctrine, because I guarantee, I for one will be making a beeline to the FCC to petition to deny ALL PBS and NPR licenses for their lies about the war and about the President. It will be a pleasure....

Al Franken: Failure to pay taxes. Using loans from charities to prop up Air America. The culture of corruption continues. Oh! he is a democrat. Nevermind and lets not mention this again.

"While I doubt anything will be done in time to change that, I do think that Al will fight to make sure it''''s the last time he has to leave his home and family to fight this ugly, useless war started by a bunch of greedy liars. " ...and approved by your lib Demo friends....

Only a lib would think that spending $12-16k per student per year in a government school is not enough money. Maybe for you, it wasn''''t.

This is a good lie almost could be believed but in fact it is still a lie. The amount that is given to each state for each student is around 3,500. Sorry to make your hero Rush a fool but that is what he is. You should be very afraid if Al makes it to congress then he will make certain that morons like you and Rush who can''t help but lie accountable.

That is two things neo cons hate. Facts and truth.

Good night and good luck.

I''m from Minnesota and I''ll be voting for you Al! I''ve got a son in the Army who will be going to Iraq next year for the 2nd time. While I doubt anything will be done in time to change that, I do think that Al will fight to make sure it''s the last time he has to leave his home and family to fight this ugly, useless war started by a bunch of greedy liars.

Once again Minnesota will be the laughing stock of America. This is the state that elected Jesse, a washed out fake wresler as Governor! What a bunch of losers.

Posted by RingADing3

If you are one of the millions who made our NATION the laughingstock of the WORLD by voting for the COMEDIANS currently in power, then YOU, sir/madam, are the loser. If you vote for McBush this fall then you shall remain so. A tidal wave of voters with change in mind will be smashing McBush flat.

joe1022joe:"Few would say Hawaii is representative of America" Yikes!

I grew up on a farm in Minnesota and I would venture a guess that my upbringing was very different from someone who grew up in New York city...or coastal Maine where people make their livelyhood fishing...or Tennessee where people made their living mining. I can go on and on if you like.

Last I heard, Hawaii became a state in 1959 and crazy as it may sound, I''ll bet Hawaians think they are citizens same as we are.

BTW: Obama was born in Hawaii, at 2 moved to Indonesia and at 10 moved back to Hawaii and has stayed in the states since. That''s 8 years away and 39 years here. Trying to spin this as a he''s not a real american is just bull-oney

Just what kind of experience does it take to be a leader??? We have Arnold S, movie icon with no real prior experience, as governor of California. There was pro wrestler Jesse Ventura who was also a governor. Several celebrities have also served in DC including presidential wannabe Fred Thompson, Sonny Bono, and Fred Grandy. So, why not Al Franken?

Al Franken can''t be any worse than the jokers and hucksters that we now have.

In fact he just might be able to tell a joke or two, as we slide into a depression.
