The trick is to stock up on necessities then start the boycot. If at end ofweek govt hasn''t come around then continue boycott until they do. My point is someone said the truckers should strike for a week. Why should the truckers do it all. We are in this messs togetehr we should all be in the boycott, it wuld be more effective and end the problems sooner. Also we need to put congress in the social security system and do away with their salaries as pensions for life. Whar other company pays you 100% after you retire ? - Reply to this comment
- Gee, I don''t recall getting a big government check when my jobs became obsolete and I was laid off. When phototypesetting was replaced with desktop publishing (and before that when handset typesetting was buried by phototypesetting)...where were the handouts. How about all the typists who lost their jobs when copy machines were developed? How come the fishermen get money, when they''ve already squeezed their income from a natural resource, thus helping to cause the salmon disappearance. Something isn''t right with the picture. Hey show ME the money for a change!!

- We are discussing a week log boycott by everyone in the U.S. truckers, working people, buying anything we don''''t absolutely hve to have.

It will take longer than a week, and it SHOULD have started yesterday- NO Memorial day trips or flights- let the airlines fall flat on their face as well since they gear up for this holiday as do the stores.
One MONTH boycott would probably do it, maybe starting with the July 4th holiday- another busy one. - Reply to this comment
- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Let''''''''s tap into the U.S.Oil Reserves. These gas prices are killing us. Why not use our own oil! Come on congress!
Posted by susieq_13
Because its only a TWO MONTH supply, and then replacing it will cost double what it originally cost. Its an EMERGENCY stockpile, not stored away to trot out to bring gas prices down a dime. The amount of oil wouldn''t have much if any effect on prices.
Get used to it, get used to the idea that every new mouth born is going to ADD to this- the more we use the more the price goes up. - Reply to this comment
- BS keeps turning the asterisk into %u2019
The link has an asterisk in ''''obama''''s''''

Its designed to do that automatically to filter out clickable links, it instantly recognizes a line with the http:// in it as an url and munges it as well as breaks long lines which are another typical feature of an url. - Reply to this comment
- Why not be patient and wait with our reserves ... then we can export to the world and bring-in the bucks!

We are discussing a week log boycott by everyone in the U.S. truckers, working people, buying anything we don''t absolutely hve to have. If we bring the govt to its knees then maybe our leaders will do something. Maybe this should be a plan in each country. People say Americans are too lazy to get this organized. I say when enough people lose their jobs, homes and can''t feed their families they will get organized. - Reply to this comment

I had to change from ranger1948 ro this screenname. What did i say or do to deserve your endearing comment ? You said you live in the country. Is the price of heaating and electric going up in your area ? What state do you live in ? I lived in Missouri and the electric company gave a discount if you converted your home to all electric. 20% a month. - Reply to this comment
- All of those rich oil executives that testified in Congress this week should now be placed in jail as enemy combatants.

- Oil companies for the longest time drilled for oil here in America, capped it, and they''re sitting idle. Congress should force oil companies to uncap our domestic sites and put it into the market.
-------
You have it backwards. The government is the one who forced them to cap those wells. - Reply to this comment
- Well, I think it is about time that we bypassed our governments and oil companies and got a few companies, and started to put together to produce a car and later buses etc to run by water, or sun or something else natural other than oil. Why has this not been done??? or has it... and yes I know that ideas have been bought out, but surely there are still people around who have integrity who will want to help people..so come on some of you clever people, get to and by pass this control over our lives.

- t_barr, I agree that Bush didnt go to war for the oil, America and other parts of the world including Australia nad Canada have vast areas of oil.. and I also have articles (not in left winged papers) which shows that there was WMD.. and the info came form no other than the Iraqi side..
What you say is very interesting, and I would not be supprised at what you say.. As Hitler said, "what luck for leaders that people dont think for themselves". In other words we can be lead like sheep to the slaughter.. In other words we are fools. - Reply to this comment
- Thanks t_barr, I looked it up also looked up hoaxes, look this one up and tell me what you think of it..
I dont like or trust Obama but if it is a hoax it isnt fair, and if we stoop to being unfair we cant trust anyone..the countries are then doomed if we cant trust our leaders..

Updated: April 8, 2008 Apparently this is a hoax by David Swanson. I changed the title to reflect this. ~ Lo
I really don%u2019t know what to make of this. Why would Powell give a copy of a private letter to After Downing Street and not the NYT or some other newspaper/website? Anyway, check out their site for the letter, I have an RSS feed for them on the left-hand side of my page. ~ Lo

- Why do we have to destroy our own country for oil that is hard to get to, when we are sitting on top of one the biggest reserves of untapped oil in the world? Iraq.
We survived over 8 years with Iraq under sanctions and the US was not allowed to buy their oil. Now we have complete access, there is no excuse. Wasn''t that what this lousy war was all about? - Reply to this comment
- Oil companies are deliberately not drilling since it would cost them too much of their egregious profits and eventually force the price of crude to drop. Feed a pig a diet rich in fat and it becomes addicted to it. Take it away and it becomes frenetic.

- Hey guys, what are you complaining about, it would costs my husband $120 a week to go to work if we didnt have gas.. that is only a half hr drive..but then we are in Australia.
I see thousands of people giving up work simply because it costs them toooo much to go to work, here in Australia, buses are to irregular to overloaded and the trains dont go to all places.. a new poor coming on while the petrol people get rich.. - Reply to this comment
