"Also in Missouri they have a plan where they average your bill ocver a year and you pay the percentage every month so if you spent $100 a month average for a year your bill would only be $100 a month." Posted by ranger1948 at 11:28 PM : May 21, 2008

That is what it is like here for both electicity and gas. It is an equal payment plan. If you end up using more or less they just adjust it at the end of the year.

We are being victimized by the oil companies and as long as this president and vice president are in office nothing will change. Something has to happen to get these companies to jump to attention and it will never be Bush.

Ranger1948, thanks for the suggestion. They give rebates but do not spread the bills out over 12 months. My daughter lives in a small town and her bill is spread out but I am on a rural electric coop and my bills are 2-3 times higher than hers.
I don''t have AC, do not have the TV on much, use very little wattage, plus about a year ago they starting adding a $15.00 a month service availability charge.

Check with your electric compay and see if they offer cut rates for all electric. Also in Missouri they have a plan where they average your bill ocver a year and you pay the percentage every month so if you spent $100 a month average for a year your bill would only be $100 a month.

You are too kind. The people are like blind sheep being led to slaughter. They need yo wake up and be willing to take action. When they get hungry and can''t feed their kids then they will be willing to act.

I live in rural Kansas, I spent $1000 on propane last year using a NEW 92.6% efficiency furnace. The previous year I spent $250.00 heating with wood. This winter I will finish installing the second woodburning stove and only use the furnace if I am gone as in overnight.

Saudia Arabia pays 12 cents a gallon for gas, Kuwait pays 40 cents a gallon. Kuwait and Iraq owe us big time, they need to start paying for what they owe us. We should have been collecting all along. If the mideasat wants to sell oil for 130 a barrel we should match them with a bushel of grain for 130 a basket.

I would have thought that having an idiot running the country and destoying it for going on 8 years, would have been enough to get most people off their butts to do something. I think the problem is that everyone has lost hope and are in a rut.

I lived in Missouri and the electric company was glad to make the offer there. Maybe someone needs to talk to the local coops and see if they won''t offer the same.

this problem is the OIL FUTURES TRADERS. They are the ones bidding up the price of oil. The price THEY bid it up to determines what the OIL companies can sell their OIL for. PERIOD!

The ONLY way to end this stupid rise in gas prices is to pass a new law... the law would be simply this...

For anyone to buy and sell OIL futures, they must do so PUBLICALLY. This means, their names are published when they buy and sell OIL FUTURES contracts and these lists can be made available to the public. THEN and ONLY THEN will you see them stop bidding up the price of oil thereby killing our economy.

Amen, I have been telling people I think someone changed the computer program for the Oil futures market, ya think it might be the oil executives....NAH.

Gasoline is going to continue to get much more expensive, without ANY doubt.

Those who buy big gas guzzling cars and trucks had better plan to spend a LOT of money to fuel up.

Time to start thinking like the European consumer - buy small and efficient vehicles...unless you like spending big bucks on fuel.

The days of cheap oil and gas are GONE FOR GOOD.

"Masters blames it on a new class of speculators led by pension funds and university endowments, which are buying up huge amounts of oil, nearly 850 million barrels more a year than they did just 5 years ago. That nearly matches the growth in Chinese demand, which is often blamed for rising crude prices. "
If this is true, why are tuition costs at universities going through the roof. And what in the world are they doing with the oil.All of this has just happened in the last 4 years at the most. Why has Congress waited until just before a general election. OOPS, I just answered my own question.
I say vote them all out of office and start anew.

I really can''t think of a time we were in a worse predicament. At least when we fought for independence we were united, not like today.
