''Ted Kennedy shocked the nation in 1969 when he drove his car off a bridge to Massachusetts'' Chappaquiddick Island and a young female campaign worker drowned. Kennedy, who did not call authorities until the next day, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and received a suspended two-month jail sentence.''

-----------

Can you imagine if it were a Republican that had driven off a road and killed a girl and left the scene of the accident without calling police? The media would be all over it. It certainly wouldnt be hidden at the end of a long article.

To Doug and all others who want to classify Chapiquddick as a "mistake". Ted Kennedy made a deliberate and conscious choice to walk away from the scene of the accident....

Sadly this type of behavior was supposedly predicted by his coach. Apparently ed Senator Kennedy was noted for getting emotional and irrational under pressure during sports and it caused hi to lose his position on the team as a result.

Based on those and many other anecdotal stories I do not think him capable of holding it together under pressure BUT I also cannot picture him capable of cold calculating evil either.

and then there is: "Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd, the longest-serving member of the Senate, wept as he prayed for "my dear, dear friend, dear friend, Ted Kennedy" during a speech on the Senate floor.

"Keep Ted here for us and for America," said the 90-year-old Byrd, who is in a wheelchair. He added: "Ted, Ted, my dear friend, I love you and I miss you."

You''re also more mature than I am! You are a refreshing minority in this forum. I hope we have the chance to discuss other topics.

To Doug and all others who want to classify Chapiquddick as a "mistake". Ted Kennedy made a deliberate and conscious choice to walk away from the scene of the accident. He committed a crime, not a mistake. Ted Kennedy''s numerous affairs were not "errors in judgement". They were a deliberate and willful choice to commit adultury. I certainly wish no ill on any one. God will be his ultimate judge, however, let call a spade a spade and not minimize his wrongdoing.

I voted Kerry as I knew the Tough Love policy of President Bush would continue.

President Clinton got to play good cop, and President Bush is getting to play bad cop.

A fast rehab for a historically forgetful people is the only solution when the addictions do not voluntarily halt but get worse.

Credit cards to pay off credit cards, house loans with forgotten balloon or scheduled increases in payments, and so many many more nationally suicidal behaviors.

Withdrawal is painful.

Can you imagine if instead of a brain tumor causing Kennedy''s terminal illness it was a liver transplant needed to save his life. Just like with Chappaquidick he''d get special treatment and be put at the top of a waiting list. Even after destroying his liver with a lifetime of booze he''d still be the one who lived on while another had to die.His kind of "royalty" is out of place in this land of the common man.My thoughts are with you Mary Jo. Continued peace.--Max

Very reasonable. But you''''re a lot nicer about it than me. I can''''t stand the man....and I voted for him twice. He''''s a HUGE disappointment.

Thanks I think? Any time I''m making a decision I do what we''re supposed to do....weigh all the options. No candidate or person is perfect....same with party platforms....and individuals. I just assess the situation versus lumping & labeling the person...

"Sending Get Well Wishes and Prayers to ...
" Senator Ted Kennedy and family "
Here''s to many more cherished times with your loved ones-friends and work family alike. You are and have always been "FOR"- "ALL"the people of the United States.Have been a patriarch/a Patrician...dedicated & giving your entire life as a Public Servant.Worked tirelessly and hard all of your life for the multitudes. Unselfishly creating good ideals, principals and accomplishments for every citizen of America-no matter what "Party" one has been associated with/Non-Partisan-All the way-while losing the center:"The Hearts of your family.Gone through unfathomable grief and sorrow, too much for one to endure or for one family to endure for sure.Being the sole male survivor and father figure to your children, your brother''s John & Bobby''s families as well-You have been their Rock and they have all prospered from your love and devotion and it shows.Wish we could have had the "Kennedy Four" as a team/Joe,Jack,Bobby & Ted...to confront and tackle all of what we''ve been through/Bet we would have been far better off than what has been on our plate since Our Beloved President Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy were murdered. Sincere thoughts are with you and much more smooth sailing ahead is ahead.

Well you gotta give credit when credit is due .. and CBS stepped up and mentioned the Chappaquiddick incident FINALLY. Teddy is back on the Cape, getting ready to sail off into the sunset ..

For all of you who revere teddy, do not fret .. he didnt have to wait in the hospital, he did not have to fill out his insurance forms before he was seen, he did not have to pay for a dime of his care, he wont have to pay for his funeral or anything else ..

We the taxpayers will pick up teddy''s tab ..

For all his healthcare efforts, I NEVER once heard teddy advocate for all Americans to have the SAME healthcare that he and his fellow Congressional members have .. nor did I EVER hear teddy introduce a bill for it. teddy NEVER advocated for the same retirement that these yahoos get either ...

So thanks teddy for sticking us with your bills ...

lord knows you have the cash to pay your own way ...

hopefully one day you will pay ...

The policy being the original war on terror and fight in Afghanistan....from there, all bets on him were way off....should have clarified that before.

I don''t hate George Bush....I just think he''s stupid and easily manipulated. He screwed up the policy that would have worked well for him.....do I think he''s generally a "nice guy" and means well, yes. Do I think he''s a very good President, no. How''s that?

Such hatred James......and sad that you look at fellow Americans that way.....you are sadly part of the modern American problem of divisiveness!!! Definitely not part of the solution and you have ZERO compassion for people.....truly sad. Can''''t even forgive people for being human and making mistakes.

What a wonderful for America that this Liberal loudmouth who fought so long and hard for the right to kill babies in their mother''''s womb, destroyed careers/reputations for his selfish ends, and was responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopeckni but never paid the price is finally about to get his. I can see it now. When Ted arrives at the gates of a burning hell, Satan will ask him, "How do you want it, Teddy, regular or extra crisp?" I would encourage a national in honor of his death. Perhaps a national happy hour. Goodbye and good riddance.

And once again, my point is made for me. You know, if you''''re going to champion somone, you should at least be able to list one reason why. Oh, well.

If you can''t be bothered to look up unfamiliar words in the dictionary, then stop posting, stop writing, or perhaps ask one of your intelligent relatives or friends-if you have any- or just crawl in a ball and give up. And no, it doesn''t bug me at all that people are sending good wishes to the murderer. It was proven long ago, and yet just recently again with the ga-ga over Barack that many people in this country will greet anyone as a Messiah as long as he promises them enough.

Hey, ya''ll can''t be talkin'' bad about agent orange like that! That was his code name when he was over in ''nam'' back in 74/75.

According to agent orange, he enlisted in the ''chair force'' in 73 at age 17 (after we began withdrawing troops.) And his MOS was SOOOOOOO special, they sent him to vietnam in 74/74 when everyone else was LEAVING! Think that one over.

He''s a real sociopath.
