Because I(and the majority of Americans) are optimists, I%u2019ve decided to go the extra mile today and offer the Kennedy family a free inscription for Ted%u2019s tombstone, so that they won%u2019t have to wrack their brains the next few days what to write on this drunk%u2019s slab. So here goes:
TED KENNEDY
1932---2008
1932%u2014born to elitist family
1952---expelled from Harvard for cheating
1960%u2014watches brother become President. It was the last time a Kennedy would ever accomplish anything
1964---almost successfully dies in a plane crash. Too bad, we were so close !
1969---drunk driver, but never serves prison time
1969---murders a young woman in his car, but never serves time(again)
1980%u2014runs for President against a total buffoon and loser Jimmy Carter, yet he still loses. Losing to Carter is like losing to Pee-Wee Herman and Pam Anderson combined.
1988%u2014Endorses Dukakis for President. Dukakis gets his clock cleaned. The Kennedy kiss of death lives on.
2000%u2014Endorses Al Gore. Gore loses. More Ted%u2019s kiss of death.
2004%u2014Endorses John Kerry. Kerry gets wiped off face of map. More K.O.D.
1948----2008 drank like a fish for 60 years. Falling down drunk 24/7.
2003%u2014attacks his own country on the War on Terrorism. Attacks his own President and Vice-Prez. Attacks the US military.
2008---Kennedy dies. Good riddance to a drunkard, a murderer, and a traitor.

I for one hope he goes in extreme pain, crying his eyes out. He is a coward that left a young woman to drown for no other reason than an attempt at damage control to his reputation. I hope he rots in *ell for the damage he has done to the american working people with his support for illegal immigration and the loss of jobs to hard working american citizens.

Stay strong Senator! Please research assisted suicide within the hospice setting for those of us with brain (neurologic disabilities)whom find no humor in disabilities at all, especially those with finite ends, and craft legislation which would allow assited suicide for those with terminal illnesses, as a measure of human decency, for humaneness, to ward off the unholy xtian(read ***) that says you must suffer thru your last days. We need more talented and humane Krevorkians in the arts and science of release and passing over/on. Could easily be crafted in the manner, and along the lines of advanced directives for the terminally ill person. Please support people with terminal illness and their right to choose their death options. It is humane to have the right to die in peace, comfort, and time of ones best choosing when terminally ill. Senator Kennedy, you have given and crafted so much during your life span, can you hold on for this last very important piece of missing legislation for a more humane nation? Mahalo.

With all due respect Mr. Kennedy had a serious drinking problem which definitely has attributed to his brain tumor.

I have never been a fan of the Kennedy''s, but they are human beings and as a Christian conservative Mr. Kennedy is in my prayers.

Of course...there but for the grace of God go all of us.

And of course, no one wishes anyone to get a sentance of cancer, and no one wishes Senator Kennedy harm.

However, this indicident brings up comments about Mr. Kennedy''s life. And it is also true that he singularly has done as much as any legislator to pass legislation that helps people.

What is also true...is that for much of his life..Mr. Kennedy was an active alcoholic. And that his alcoholism had consequences..he got drunk, had a car accident...and then killed someone...not just through the accident..but by doing doing nothing for the next 12 hours to save that person.

So yes, you question how important Ms Kopechnee''s life was to him. And you wonder why he never took accountability for what he did.

He is an important figure yes. A hero, no.

Of course anyone''s sympathy goes out to him, and particularly his family.

It is amazing though that in this digital age, when you examine the facts...not opinions...but the facts. I was surprised to see his police statement, and his statement to the nation.

And perhaps he has spent the last 30 years atoning for what he did.

I pray for Mr. Kennedy and wish him well. I knew people would be bringing up the Mary Jo incident. But it''s like this, the people who crow the most should look in their own backyards before critizing. We weren''t there when it happened, and will probably never know. Mr. Kennedy will have to answer to one person someday, and that will be God Almighty. The Kennedys have done a lot of good in general, and done a lot of charity work. Maybe I tend to see the good in people instead at looking at their faults. So Mr. Kennedy I will have you in my thoughts and prayers, and hope for the best for you.

I have been reading posts on CBSNEWS and other news websites on various topics for a long time. I am truly amazed at the negative sentiment expressed by the majority of people who post on CBS. I chose this site to post this message because it is one of the worst. Here is a public servant who just received a devastating diagnosis. Where is the compassion for him and his family? Why are so many of us determined to be mean-spirited and use a "news" event to spew venom that helps no one, and doesn''t serve to move humanity to a more mature place? My heart goes out to Sen. Kennedy and his family and I pray that his fighting spirit will serve him well in this new battle. May the presence of God be a comfort to them.

This is an excert from the speech he gave to the nation. His actions made no sense to him becuase he was drunk:

"My conduct and conversation during the next several hours, to the extent that I can remember them, made no sense to me at all. Although my doctors inform me that I suffered a cerebral concussion as well as shock, I do not seek to escape responsibility for my actions by placing the blame either on the physical and emotional trauma brought on by the accident, or anyone else. I regard as indefensible the fact that I did not report the accident to the police immediately. Instead of looking directly for a telephone after lying exhausted on the grass for an undetermined time, I walked back to the cottage where the party was being held, requested the help of two friends, Joe Gargan and Paul Markham, and directed them to return immediately to the scene with me ( it then being sometime after midnight ) in order to undertake a new effort to dive down and locate Miss Kopechne. Their strenuous efforts, undertaken at some risk to their own lives, also proved futile."

This is Senator Kennedy''s written statement:

I was driving my car on Main Street on my way to get the ferry back to Edgartown. I was unfamiliar with the road and turned right onto **** Road, instead of bearing hard left on Main Street. After proceeding for approximately one-half mile on **** Road I descended a hill and came upon a narrow bridge. The car went off the side of the bridge. There was one passenger with me, one Miss Mary ( Kennedy was not sure of the spelling of the dead girl''s last name, and offered a rough phonetic approximation ), a former secretary of my brother Sen. Robert Kennedy. The car turned over and sank into the water and landed with the roof resting on the bottom. I attempted to open the door and the window of the car but have no recolection of how I got out of the car. I came to the surface and then repeatedly dove down to the car in an attempt to see if the passenger was still in the car. I was unsuccessful in the attempt. I was exhausted and in a state of shock. I recall walking back to where my friends were eating. There was a car parked in front of the cottage and I climbed into the back seat. I then asked for someone to bring me back to Edgartown. I remember walking around for a period of time and then going back to my hotel room. When I fully realized what had happened this morning, I immediately contacted the police."

I wish him well. But I can''t help but wonder how a 76 year old with a glioblastoma would be treated in a country with socialized medicine. Would he immediately receive the best care without regard for cost? Or would the limited collective resources be directed toward someone who has a disease with at least some chance of cure?
