- Teddy did not dive down to save poor Mary Jo. If you can get the original reports of witnesses the old drunk''s clothes were dry when he came back to his hotel alone. Teddy did not bother to get help for Mary Jo either. I am old enough to remember the facts very well. Mary Jo was a live for a while desperately waiting for help to arrive. Reports say there was an air pocket at the top of the car so she could breathe for a while. But no, Teddy went back to his hotel and did not call the police until in the morning, AFTER he called his lawyer. This is why Teddy could never run for president. People at the time realize he''s a murderer. May he rest in hell.

Well I guess if one can ignore the facts then anyone can believe it was a "trajic" accident ...
But he did in FACT plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident .. it just so happened that Kopechne was in the car ... and no charges were broguht for thet little caviot ..
So beleive what you will .. maybe if this were your sister or relative you might research and find out the facts before arbitrarily claiming him innocent. - Reply to this comment

- Sure Ted was Drunk As A Skunk .. both of his brothers had been recently assassinated and I am sure he drowned his sorrow in booze .. what happened to that girl was a tragic accident and nothing more .. Ted has certainly paid for it many times over

- Hopefully Teddy will just go to Hyannis and retire ... enjoy his millions and the fact that he avoided prison for the Kopechne murder .. by pleading to leaving the scene of an accident ... it just so happened that the young woman was in the car and he forgot to call the police until the next day.
Funny how no one brings this little incident up and make Teddy out to be some stand up progressive.
Us here in Ma know him as a drunk, money grubbin, power grabbin, care about himself or some illegal alien, slob. We actually refer to him as the bafoon.

The car had power windows, which would have shorted out instantly on contact with the water.
Kennedy escaped because he was driving with the driver''s window open. He swam out through the open window.
But that''s why the car filled so rapidly with water, and Mary Jo didn''t find the open window.
Had the window been closed - Kennedy could have kicked out the windshield if he knew to try it. The car wouldn''t have filled with water until he kicked it out. Mary Jo probably would have escaped with him.
Or maybe neither of them would have gotten out.

That''s just rumor and hearsay. It''s doubtful there''s any substance to the suggestion that Kennedy staged the accident on purpose to kill her.
First, there are PLENTY OF PEOPLE who have things to "tell on" the Kennedys.
And the Kennedys have MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE ways of killing off potential squealers. Remember Joe Kennedy''s theater scandal?
