Comments on: PTSD Marine Kills Brother, Self
The Troubled Marine Had Met With President Bush Just Weeks Before Driving To The Grand Canyon To Commit Suicide
- I won''t condemn all the VA people for trying to use semantics concerning PTSD.
They too do the best they can with the LIMITED resources this administration has allowed them and the VASTLY INCREASED number of patients they are facing.
When a vet Asks to NOT be labeled because of FEAR that the label will FOREVER BRAND them as "defective" I''ve seen the quandary they face.
Some of the judgmental, cruel comments concerning our vets made on these posts even PROVIDE JUSTIFICATION for those fears.
So, in SOME cases the semantics becomes LESS important than getting the VET to return and work at rehabilitation every bit a tough as those that adjust to missing limbs.
We DON''T need condemnation. We DO need the resources, forbearance and maybe someday understanding CURE for this deadly affliction. - Reply to this comment
- Just a couple days ago there was a story about some nitwit at the VA trying to avoid compensation claims by classifying returning veterans with "Adjustment disorder" instead of PTSD. How in the h.e.ll can you justify sending someone through five combat tours? This guy could have easily walked into a mall with a gun, maybe the next one will. We need to spend the resources to better help our returning veterans adjust and move on with their lives. We need to stop sending people through multiple tours of combat.

- The REPERCUSSIONS from King George''s guilty REENACTMENT of Vietnam are only BEGINNING to be felt.
The costs are not ONLY monetary but also in RUINED LIVES and POTENTIAL.
TWO lives lost tragically after the TORTURE of FIVE deployments and at least 2 of them AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED with PTSD! I know so many more that could potentially follow a similar path.
The losses are on BOTH SIDES of this military action without a FORMAL DECLARATION of war from Congress but the again Vietnam set THAT precedent as well as the kind of LIES that CREATE such MORAL CONFLICT leading to BREAKDOWN.
I''m sure Travis was a well-meaning do the right thing kind of guy before. I''m sure he TRIED to maintain that as BEST as he could and with all his heart.
The tragedy is that like REPEATED heart attacks, REPEATED deployments created MORE DAMAGE until it finally became fatal for BOTH him and his brother it seems.
It''s NOT talked about much but USUALLY it''s the WIFE AND KIDS that "go with" some of these guys. Maybe his brother at least kept that from happening. - Reply to this comment

- In this case i think this man deseves some flag waving. He completed five tours of combat. It is no wonder he had severe problems. Most men have problems with only one tour in combat. No matter how he died you have to respect the service this man gave.

I do not believe having been a marine gives anyone special leeway. If you cannot see or understand what a he$$ of a mess this Iraq invasion is please don''''t try to cover it up with flag waving. thank you.

Sorry if I miss spoke, but my intention was not flag waving, it was showing respect. I hate to see any soldier being disrespected, and if you are as you say you are, my apologies to you. Even though I don''t agree with the stinking the present president, I do respect the office. Soldiers have a way of doing things different, and whether he volunteered or not, he would have no doubt ended up going. Who knows why he hugged Bush, there is no doubt he was confused, considering the end he chose. I just don''t believe in trashing soldiers, any soldier. As long as he done his duty, he''s deserving of my respect.
As for Iraq, I agree it''s a he11 of a mess, and the faster we bring our troops home the better off we will all be. I don''t dee no good coming of it, nor do I see any good coming of it in the future. - Reply to this comment

I don''t believe anyone is trying to cover anything up. We all served our time and all have our opinions and we don''t always agree. I don''t believe in the Iraq war either and really don''t know anyone who does. I certainly do not support bush and his regine for what they have done to this country. - Reply to this comment
- ggst problem i see with Americans in Thailand is they come in with the attitude I am an American and am better than you. I hate to see this happen. The Thai people have treated me kindy. I have taken time to learn their customs and am learning their language. I shhow proper respect whenever i go out. You can meet and talk to anyone here and really have a great time. I think Americans could learn a lot from Thai''s, especially about road rage and driving. There are very few traffic lites in bangkok and it can seem a bit hairy but i learned to relax and enjoy the ride. I found a jewelry store where i can buy great quality jewelry asnd if they don''t have whay you are looking for they will make it and they give great discounts. I really feel at home here. I have tried many of their foods and some i didn''t care for but some were really great. They have a drink made of long black things that look like worms, they put them in a cup with ice and you sip thru a straw. When youi get past the sensation of swallowing fishing worms it is a great drink.

No matter what you believe, he deserves the respect he has earned as a Marine, and until you have walked his walk, just shut your piehole. - Reply to this comment
