I say if you don''''t like gay marriage don''''t have one. But don''''t tell people way smarter than you how to live or love.

Bravo! 100% correct! 100 years from now when gay marriage is commonplace our great grand children will think this whole debate was silly with so many other problems in this world.

t is hard to believe that so much time and effort goes into such an insignificant thing like this. Don''''t we have something better to worry about than this.

Posted by noloyalisti"

Yeah, like we dont have more pressing issues to worry about; anti biotic resistant diseases, overpopulation, global climate change, the economy in a recession, the illegal Iraq invasion with over 4,000 dead as a result, crime, violence, $4 a gallon gas, food prices, the list goes on! The legislature even wasted their time in Florida on a bill to ban bestiality because of ONE guy, forget about all the other bills that didnt make the ''funnel'' because there wasnt time, but there was time to waste on a stupid unenforceable bill against bestiality LOL

Oh but lets forget ALL that and more, and focus all our time, courts and legislator''s time on abortion and gay marriage!

Like the right wing takeover of the schools, the neocon conspiracy to take over the world, the failed right wing ideology of privatization to enslave the world. Very Christian.

Well stated. Thanks Sgt. It should also be noted that the Cali supreme court is currently occupied by 6 republicans and 1 democrat. So, the Republicans did it! woohoo!

Posted by IRLiberal at 11:36 PM : May 15, 2008

In California even our republicans are democrats. Arnie says he accepts the ruling and will fight any effort to put the measure to try to get past it on the ballot this fall. Now that''s MY kind of republican!

Yes but when our founding fathers started this country it was a whole different place and time.

Which only proves how wise they were by setting up the government that they did so it would last so long. It''s a shame that in the last 8 years the current occupiers of the government are so determined to destroy all of their hard work and foresight. But we won''t let them.

It''s a sad day for those mean-spirited Americans who want to dictate and narrowly define a family unit. Thank God that there are justices out there who understand the concept of equal protection under the law!!! And to those who say that God is punishing America for these types of freedoms....I''d say that perhaps God is judging America for having hypocritical leaders who don''t know what it means to love his neighbor as himself. Instead of compassion, there is only scoff towards those who are different.

I do not understand what people are thinking. I think it is absolutley ridiculous to think that we are in the year 2008 and there is still large amounts of discrimination in the United States. How can people think that it is ok to be so hateful and cruel. Do they not understand that Hate IS NOT A Familoy Value. The only reason that there is a debate over ths is because of religious beliefs. Is "Seperation of Religion and State" so hard to understand?? And I don''t believe that in church it is taught that one group of people is better than another. " Any kind of love is fine. It''s Your hate that you have to watch." We went through this same ordeal with Black''s. Why is it ok to discriminate against Gay people if its not ok to discriminate against any other minority?? Isn''t any kind of marginalization also discrimination?? Can someone please explain to me why they think that any of this is ok??

Like most of the great concerns of the Religious Reich, this too will have no impact on anyone whatsoever, except for those gay people wanting to marry. It gives them the same rights as everyone else, which is about as American an idea as you can get.

Because that''''s the job of the equal branch of the government called the courts. it''''s their job to decide if the proposition is legal. Just because the majority of people vote to pass something does not make it legal in our system of government, nor should it. The courts protect the rights of the minority from the will of the majority, just like the founding fathers intended.
