Comments on: 53 Illegal Immigrants Freed From Captivity
Alleged Smugglers Held Men, Women, Children In Fortified House, Demanded More Money
- bohemian: First of all, schools and medical care are not welfare, and its welfare what everyone is screaming about. Second, I worked for the local municipal government until retiring this year, so I do know what I am talking about, much more than you do. If you are going to debate an issue, don''t muddy the facts. Also, illegal immigrants do pay taxes every time they purchase something, just another example of how wrong your generalizations truly are. I suggest you be a little more honest and correct when throwing out stats and facts (sic).

- You have to prove legal residency to obtain government programs. Children born here to illegal immigrants would therefore qualify, so there is where your money is going. Pre-natal care is often provided to anyone, as an exception. That should make you happy since healthy babies require less uninsured medical care. Charities that receive government funding have fewer controls, so there is another area were taxpayers money maybe going to illegal immigrants. BUT, they do not automatically receive assistance from wholly government programs. Someone has to be a legal citizen in the family. sheesh

- It''s certainly not going to get any better when either one of the three candidates become president. They all want some sort of pathway (amnesty) to citizenship for the 12-15 million illegals that are here already...breeding like cockroaches as we speak.

- And obviously this needs to be mentioned often: NOT ALL HISPANIC IMMIGRANTS ARE FROM MEXICO, MANY ARE FROM OTHER CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES, which are in chaos from civil or drug wars and even genocide. All this stereotyping and ignorance is avoidable with just a little reading and research.

- babykiller: many of the illegal immigrants are victims of persecution and civil or drug wars. In many cases they maybe considered refugees, defined as somebody seeking safe place: somebody who seeks or takes refuge in a foreign country, especially to avoid war or persecution.

- dylan: Just a suggestion, but you need to read and think before you post. We were talking about welfare programs, not public schools or medical care. They are not the same, contrary to what you may believe. So I stand by my comment, it is correct. Non-citizens cannot collect unemployment, welfare, subsidized housing, or other GOVERNMENT programs. Someone else mentioned private programs were welfare, and that too is incorrect.

- maedean: you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Non-citizens do NOT have access to welfare programs. Period, end of story. (if they have had a child born in the USA, the child has access to some programs, such as nutritional)
You self-centered hypocrites need to learn some manners and how to ''''talk'''' to people in a civil manner. All the nastiness always seems to come from either right-wingers or ignorant low-lifes.

WoW...Talk about being ignorant...Check your facts before spewing out stuff you obviously have no knowledge of...Do you think those illegals pay taxes to those American schools they attend? Do you think those illegals pay for their doctor services? NO...WE taxpaying Americans pay for them... - Reply to this comment

- Hey, these five aspiring entrepreneurs just need more American training. An American businessman would have stripped them to the waist, left their socks, taken their shoes and then made them wear a sign: No Shirt, No Shoes, No (immigration) Service.------------------------------------------

"...as demonstrated by their tendency toward rioting and gang violence wherever they are present in large numbers."
Ever watch the "Gangs of New York?" Ever hear of the Hay Market Riots? John Lewis? KKK? Kent State? Ever hear of Rodney King? As a matter of fact, ever hear of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr? Or that paragon of the patient application of reason, Lee Harvey Oswald? We wouldn''t want those "hispanic tendencies" to contaminate our pure-blood democratic lineage, now would we? Maybe if we gave them a training manual, something like "how to win friends and influence people in six easy hangings?" - Reply to this comment

note also that the mexicans (i.e. hispanics) invaded america once before and slaughtered the natives (indians), much as the nazis did the jews. no doubt they would do the same to americans if they had the chance, as demonstrated by their tendency toward rioting and gang violence wherever they are present in large numbers. - Reply to this comment
- Under international treaty, our borders will be open for casual crossing by citizens of any country that has no hostilities with our country. It has been that way since our country was formed and recognized in the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The first country we opened our borders to was Canada, whose cititzens came from the USA that didn''t wan''t to fight for independance from Great Britan.
Some of the posters on this comment stream need to study their history and gain healthier beliefs about border control, immigration and caring for refugees.
God forbid, but one day it may be us who become refugees. It is not impossible to discover yourself becoming homeless, unemployed, disabled, and begging. The face of poverty is not pleasant, but the face of ignorance and inhumane treatment is downright ugly. Let any German who survived WWII tell you, what it was like to discover what was happening in their backyard right under their noses. The way I read many postings here, I can see many would like to give the same treatment to Mexicans as the Nazi''s gave to Jews. True Americans won''t stand for it!! Only phony Americans would tolerate indignant treatment of Latin or Mexican refugees. - Reply to this comment

- Take the plight of the Tarahumara Indians on the Northern Mexican border. Unfortunately, they have been harrassed by the drug cartel that kidnaps them, enslaves them, or kills them, and not a word is said about it. Many of them have fled to live illegally in the US, only to be deported back to where they are killed.
