innovant, surely, if you were to encounter a hungry tree-hugging-hippie-eating bear while hiking in the woods, you wouldn''t lie down and accept death.

Much of this discussion suggests that people are somehow alien to the Earth and "unnatural".

"Blackstone reports that the advice for people who encounter coyotes in the city or anywhere else is to make plenty of noise - that should scare them away."

...or just shoot them.

Hey CFIN5, I guess that gce65 is upset that we are in favor of killing coyotes. I guess vermin stick together. So, in the spirit of p---ing off that guy, do you like to use a small caliber (e.g., .204 Ruger, .223) or do you like overkill and seeing the "red mist" of a vaporized varmint by using a .308 Winchester or greater? Personally, I like the 308 because it doubles as a deer rifle.

These poor animals have one job, to survive. They must eat. The humans have encroached on their lands. They are surprised by attacks, while they live in these areas. STUPID.

Not only do we humans face a food crisis, so do the animals, on a daily basis. I suppose its pointless to recommend living in harmony with these creatures.

LIKE LET THEM HAVE THEIR SPACE, AND GO LIVE IN THE CITY, IF YOU WANT CITY CONDITIONS. BUT DON''T ENCROACH, AND DON''T KILL THOSE ANIMALS, SO YOUR KID CAN PLAY IN A SANDBOX.

YOU''RE IN THE WILDERNESS, PUT UP A FENCE, YOU IDIOT, IF YOU''RE TOO BUSY TO WATCH YOUR KID PLAY IN THE SANDBOX.

The AUTHORITIES SHOULD PROVIDE GAME FOR THESE CREATURES, BEING REGULARLY DISPERSED IN AREAS AWAY FROM POPULATIONS.

"Coyotes are useful but just like deer their populaton reaches a tipping point and needs to be thined out."

I can see you havent learned from history, coyotes cant be "thinned out" they just reproduce FASTER to fill the void. I think the human population needs to be thinned out.

that''s why they call it coyote country: coyotes live there.
it could be worse: "a dingo ate your baby!"

They''ve got a real problem now with a yote knowing the taste and sound of the child. This should immediately be used to trap/shoot the yote. A coyote needs two out of three senses that will bring them into ambush (if uneducated), which are to see & hear, see and smell, or hear and smell their intended prey.......Take some of the child''s unwashed dirty clothes and set out with a recording of the child mimicking their best fake crying to draw them to a snare/gunfire. The old timers around here shot them off long ago for this very reason. I remember a useful website on coyote hunting (coyotegods.com) that answered a question I had once.

Better judged by 12 than carried by 6, right? Seriously, all gun control does is to create a safe work environment for criminals.

If they were running towards gunfire, they must be accustomed to that as being a ''dinner bell''...an opportunity to run down wounded game...

The best way to deal with the coyote problem is to shoot them. Lots of cool videos on YouTube. Search YouTube for "Coyote 14 yards" to find my personal favorite. WHOOP!!! BANG!!! End of problem.

LeFeaoux, I also love and respect all animals, but will shoot wild dogs in a heartbeat because they will hunt just to kill. Most animals hunt to eat. I have a hard time shooting any animal since I do most of my hunting and fishing at Lake Safeway.

I actually like coyotes. When I was stationed in the Mojave Desert and would get off of the Mid-Watch (4:01 pm-12:01 am), I would play tag with them on my way back home. Chase them on my moped for a few yards, stop and they usually would stop to see what I was going to do. The difference, that wasn%u2019t my back yard.

In my back yard, the animal has shown his lack of fear and that changes all responses.

Never ran into a pack of dogs of that size, hope I never do. Enjoyed your post.

LeFeaoux....In the Adirondack Mountains in New York, we have a large number of Coy Dogs. which as they''''ve stated are a mating between Dogs and Coyotes. These can be very dangerous. But thats the reason why people need to be armed in rural areas to protect themselves against wild dog packs and other wildlife that may attack. If the Liberal''''s have their way, no-one would be armed or protected. Try calling for help in the mountains. Its an hour drive to the closest house.

I am not saying that we shouldn''t protect ourselves from these animals and where feral dogs (hybrids) were created by interbreeding and ARE NOT a native animal ... I agree that they need to be wiped-out. I will shoot a feral dog or feral cat on sight! Those animals wreak havoc on the environment and depleat natural food sources for the native animals. By the way, I have been through those mountains MANY times ... that is a beautiful area!

What people don''t realize is that our civilization is a paper-thin veneer over what is still a very wild planet. The fact is, a pack of coyotes are still as deadly today as they were in the 1800s. We had a large female dog whom we gave to our neighbors when we moved because the dog was protecting the little girl from the coyotes. Our valley is beautiful and secluded, but there''s also danger out there. People who move to rural areas from the city need to be aware of it. A shotgun, properly and safely secured, and a large dog are good things to have out there.
