Tornadoes, Heavy Winds Rip Through Four States; 7 Killed In Arkansas
- Makes me glad I live in Ohio. Our winters are horrible, but heavy snow and cold and endless gray skies don''t usually kill anybody.
Still, i wouldn''t trade it for Kansas City, with its heat and humidity. Visited former Ohioans there twice, and dealt with tornadoes BOTH times. First time they called off the Royals game before it began, and evacuated the stadium because of nearby twisters and lightning. Fantastic clouds, though.
A few years later i watched it go from bright sunshine to total blackness in 10 min. Cars were blown off I-35 and the eatery''s window where we were got blown in. Three hour delay of the ball game that night, too, so we dumped our tickets and went home.
Too hot and muggy in summer and too many bad storms. As lousy as Ohio''s weather is, I wouldn''t trade places. Ohio tornadoes are not much, compared to my native IL and points west. - Reply to this comment
- al2008, i was waiting on you global warming nutjobs to chime in. I''ve lived in AR my entire life. While the number of tornadoes this year are up from the recent past, outbreaks like this are an unfortunate fact of life in this area. Global warming? New data states the earth hasn''t warmed, in fact has COOLED since 1998. Look up the word TRENDS, and CYCLICAL. In the meantime, keep those hurt and killed today in your thoughts. That will do a huge amount of good compared to your "global warming" trash.

- I%u2019m appalled at the governor%u2019s lack of response to the global warming thunderstorms and tornadoes. We have no comprehensive strategy in place whatsoever, let alone a detailed plan of action to mitigate the effects of these tornadoes, and mother earth continues to suffer while the governor%u2019s office refuses to go forward and do what%u2019s right for mother earth.
.
How long must we sit idly by while our mother continues to suffer from the warming taking place at a feverish pace? How long must our mother suffer before we have proper c02 taxes put into place? How long must the destruction of mother earth take place before we finally put responsible plans into action? How long must we wait until we beef up our corn ethanol production? At least Obama wants to cut c02 pollution by 80%; he is definitely our best hope.
.
We the people call upon the governor to implement a comprehensive antiglobal warming strategy at once and work in coordination with state and federal officials; these tornadoes and storms continue to worsen and the quicker we stop the warming the sooner we will see these storms cease. We need action now. - Reply to this comment

- Very scary. You couldn''t pay me enough money to live in places like this.

Oops, that should have said "exiting" the state. - Reply to this comment

- Another one can now be added to that making a total of 7 here in AR. If I understand correctly, still 2 are missing and unaccounted for. Numerous cars were blown off the interstate east-westbound, so difficult to get an accurate count as yet.
It is existing the state finally, this line of storms, but Tennessee, Kentucky be forewarned and be safe. - Reply to this comment

- Oh sure. I think I"ll just blame all this on God, too. Why not? Makes sense to me (heavy on the sarcasm!)

- Not only to Katrina - to everyone in the world that is having to deal with crisis. No need to move - grass is never greener on the other side. We''ll get through it together.

- Thanks, Netadmin1 !! I know you''ve had your tough times down there too.
I know there are those who say, "Well, why don''t you just move?" Easy to say, hard to do when you''ve worked all your life as I have just to have a little bit but are just making ends meet. Picking up and moving out on a whim just is not that simple for most of us - witness Katrina. My heart still goes out to NO. - Reply to this comment

- I am posting at about 12:26 CDT from Little Rock, and there are now being reported 6 fatalities. Our state has been hit extremely hard so far this year with floods and tornados, causing untold death and destruction.
This is just a tough thing for so many to have to go through. May God bless !! - Reply to this comment
