Comments on: Bell's Family: Cops Should Be Accountable
Victim's Family Won't Rest Until Justice Is Served
- To call this a racist shooting is off the mark. Two of the defendants were Black. And how many bullets make if murder vs a ''righteous'' shooting? 10, 20, or is it 51? Much has been made of the number of shots fired. While I question many acts by the police, I am not prepared to question the number of shots fired. If someone is in fear of their life or the lives of others, what number of shots do they stop at? I believe many times the police shoot first, when it isn''t necessary. When an officer has every opportunity to get out of the way of a moving vehicle or a stick wielding perp, but shoots anyway, its a travesty. I wasn''t privy to all the evidence or statements, but a judge is the ''jury''(as requested by the defendants), is it more ''within the law'' than a jury of 12? Judges have their own prejudices (not meaning race related) cultivated over many years of hearing lies and evil deeds. This may not have been true justice for the young man or his family, but it may have been within the letter or spirit of the law.

I''m back, ranger, good afternoon.
Know that you have been defended by a "Black" man in some of these posts. Sometimes your posts don''t take into consideration other valid points of view, and I sometimes step in to suggest them to you. but I don''t see your positions as racist, but only sometimes arrived at from one point of view, without considering more complete information.
Now this Orange county resident here, on the other hand, who seems to posit that the understandably angry reaction of the residents at yet another death at the hands of police, is somehow a justification after the fact for the death and wounding of the victims, is.
Again, as I posited earlier, the explanation as to how a non incident turned into a death was not adequately explained to the residents, and the families of the victims, "the judge decided the matter, so go home" is not explanation enough.
When Amadou Diallo was shot 41 times reaching for his wallet, as instructed by the police, that too was inadequately explained, wouldn''t you like to know why such incidents were happening all too frequently in your neighborhood?
Would you accept "The judge already decided the matter, so go home now", if your child, or friend, neighbor, or community member died in such a manner?
And when it happens again tomorrow, and the day after? - Reply to this comment

Ok, dowjones, I''m back.
The problem in this case is that there is no evidence that the victims were any of these.
Like I posited earlier, this automatic assumption that because the victims were "Black" that they must have been criminal is the stench that always pervades these debates, and introduces racism where none should be considered.
Civilians lost their lives due to an over reaction by police, when at the bottom line, there was no crime being committed that justified it, end of story.
The "why" of it may be rooted in stereotypical assumptions that can be called racist, but "why" is also very much irrelevant.
"If you want to be a productive member of society make the correct choices and you will be able to move forward and succeed."
This is very much not true, in far too many cases in the inner cities, the "correct" choice is not available as an option.
Move out? With what money, earned from what job? Unemployment is a trap in itself, just simply saying "move out" is similar to "let them eat cake". - Reply to this comment

You are right the statement was not probable cause, so if they had stopped them and no weapon was found but they did have a weapon in the car the weapon would still be on the streets. The statement about going to get the gun and the fact the driver hit the policeman with his car and tried to flee was probably the basis for the judge to determine they were in fear of their lives and found them not guilty. - Reply to this comment

I don''t know if you know the law in New York but it is illgal for a civilian to possess a handgun, at least outside of their home. Even some type of ammo are illegal. When my daughter was stationed at Ft Drum i gave her my 45 hoping she could take iot to Iraq with her as a 9mm has no knockdown power. I also had it loaded with hydro shock loads which are illegal in New York. They confiscated the bulletts and she had to send the gun home to me thru a gun dealer. - Reply to this comment

Your making everyday decisions is nothing like a cop has to do. They make life and death decisions daily. It is arrogant of you to think your decisions are the same as theirs. - Reply to this comment

I am glad you are community minded and helped the child and that you live in a good neighborhood. I didn''t think they existed in California any more with all the gang problems they have there. Maybe i listen to to much news. As for my credentials validating, they do. They validate i am an American and i support my country and try to make it a better place. If i make a comment on here thatn is different from others i am usually called a racist. I am proud of my credentials, my country and my family. - Reply to this comment

I think you are the problem trying to keep racism alive. This wasn''t even a racial incident. I am a redneck and proud of it. I was taught a redneck is raised with pride, integrity, and moral standards, and will defend there coutry at all costs. It is having a sense of honor. Put the blame where it belongs the driver tried to hit and police man and flee the scene. We weren''t there so only he knows what happened for sure. The judge looked at all the evidence which wasn''t presented here and found them not guilty. It is required of the da to prove guil''ty beyond a reasonable doubt. He failed to do so. - Reply to this comment
- In New Orleans 2008, a mentally disturbed man took a policewoman''s gun away from her and killed the young lady. She tried to "talk" and he killed her. Shoot first, we will sort it out later.
