whatithink- the point is we can point fingers and play the blame game all day long and won''t solve the problem at hand which is how do we get Black kids from killing other black kids. We can talk about gun control but even if guns had never existed they would still find ways to kill each other. A two ton car does an excellent job and killing people, hijacking a gas tanker would too. Most gun deaths are suicides do you think these people would not find another way?

It''s funny that you bring up Duke University because most of the older schools in the south were built using slave labor.

louiville2,

The foundation of the U.S. economy was built on slavery for a very long time. You did not need to own a slave to have benefitted from slave labor. Cotton was the most important crop in the nation there was much indirect work associated with this product that was only made possible through slave labor.

I have no idea where those statistics came from. I do know that most blacks are killed by blacks and most whites are killed by whites.

Compiled from an 1860 census. But why let the truth get in way of a good story.

"The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves (1). Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 percent of southern whites owning one or more slaves).
According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country''s leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.

To return to the census figures quoted above, this 28 percent is certainly impressive when compared to less than 1.4 percent of all American whites and less than 4.8 percent of southern whites. The statistics show that, when free, blacks disproportionately became slave masters."

98.5% of whites WERE not slave owners.

whatithink-Those statistics are for just one year, their were more then 2,000,000 B/W crimes in a typical year 80-90% are B/W crimes. Do you know how many lynchings I don''t know last one I heard about was in the early 60''s on the news.

USBrit,

Just the fact that he thinks he can use FBI statistics over the last 200 years to get an accurate picture of anything. Does he even know the first person ever charged with slavery was a black man who went across state lines with a white woman (consensual)? If you went by FBI statistics, slavery only started with this guy.

whatithink-I don''''t think you really want to go down that road of who is more violent to who (B/W or W/B)over the last 200 years do you do you i.e. there were about 22,000 B/W rapes compaired with about 100 W/B rapes reported by the FBI. Let alone murders etc...

And how many W/B vs B/W lynchings were there in the same period.

louiville2,

I never have assumed that all whites were rich. It is many racists here who associate welfare with black and Reagan during the 1980s promoted this. I know it is not. I do know that many poor whites have preferred to align themselves with their race over their class. Poor whites have sometimes been the most racist because race mattered to them more than it did even to rich whites.

You can blame who you want. The blame goes in many directions. And, I don''t say some of the blame is not directly in the communities. It is.

There is a long forgotten war still raging to this day - and it is being waged by Americans on themselves on the streets of this country. When will America demand an end to this war?
